Samsung Behold II marries Android, TouchWiz for T-Mobile
The Behold is all grow'd up with its second rendition, moving up in the world from a mere featurephone to an authentic Android-powered contender. T-Mobile's latest Android set is a full-touch model backed by a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash, and video recording, a 3.2-inch AMOLED display, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and microSD expansion up to 16GB. Like virtually all Samsung smartphones (and many of its featurephones), the Behold II features an adaptation of the company's TouchWiz UI and has a 3D "cube menu" for rotating among common features like web browsing and YouTube access. Neither pricing nor availability are being announced right now, but we're being promised it'll be around "in time for the holidays."

Wow - this is a surprise. This should be a contender on T-Mobile.
As someone who is finally getting their Hero next Sunday, I'm suddenly curious if the Samsung Instinct Q will have TouchWiz.
Also, as a side note, I still think HTC Sense looks better and is more functional than TouchWiz, but it's possible that the Android version of TouchWiz is a bit different.
This seems like a prime example of a UI being changed for the sake of being changed. I can't imagine how the cube structure will be more efficient than traditional UI's. Big points for a new idea. Loses points for having a less than effective UI. Of course, this is based on just the screen shot. Maybe it will be much better than what I am envisioning.
You got a source on that? Read link just goes to T-Mobile.
Sorry, direct PR. No web source at this time.
Well Hello there gorgeous!!
wtf? android and dedicated buttons? This is like a completely revamped version of the first behold, too bad I just got a contract a month ago...
Very nice, T-mobiles like the herder of the Android Sheep; lets just hope this particular sheep doesn't run into the barn at 528MHz.
All this talk about sheep is getting me all hot and bothered

Coincidence? Most likely, but a man can dream.
Taylor you little rumor starter you. I really hope your completely unsuported theort is correct. Allow me to dream with you. Perfect timing for me since I finally got my google voice invite!
nice so they replace the g1 with the cliq and the mytouch with this. amoled screen = epic win
there not replacing the mytouch with anything
its a new phone just like thee first behold this 1 will not get much attention
CAN I MARRY ANDROID?
Only if you got a 1Ghz processor.
@hereuspam...damn im much too slow for that.....
Looks nice. The cube is gimmicky. Maybe his one will have a version of Android that is actually decent as I haven't seen one yet that didn't have major issues one way or the other. Plus another T-Mobile phone? Whats taking Verizon so long?
What major issues have you seen?
And what about UMA? Seriously without UMA on TMO it's not worth it.
please please tell me it has a 3.5mm headphone jack
It is thrilling to see these custom UIs popping up on these types of platforms. I like what Sammy did with the Behold, looks great design-wise. The cube is actually a cool idea IMO, could see this catching on for some T-Mo folks. Glad to see its got all everything under the hood too.
These Android devices are lame in specs. WHy always a 3.2 screen? Why not a 3.5 or higher. And give me a 1ghz CPU.
Some of us carry our phone in a pocket, not in a purse.
@ibelike: It's not a purse, it's European!
It's the same thing as the Samsung i7500 which was released in June 2009.
why can't these carriers/manufacturers agree to go with internal memory as opposed to swappable? Since the OS will not allow install on external cards it makes the large media cards nearly useless.
I want.
But...
Video resolution on the camcorder anyone?
Processor speed?
I still can't get over... TouchWiz. The man responsible needs to be brutally murdered.
BEHOLD!
*does jazz hands around phone*
Is this the Samsung Galaxy?
Samsung re-arranged the buttons slightly; this is clearly VERY different to the multitude of phones they've released in the last 10 seconds.
I think this phone looks really, really bad. I would have liked something like the Behold/Omnia in design, not this clusterf**** of buttons and weird looks.
Why do most Android phones have to (1)look odd or (2)look normal/nice but lack necessary features.
Moto Cliq is the best offering yet, and hopefully HTC steps up to the plate. This is getting ridiculous.
no the cliq looks real laggy, hope the software it ships with is more polished.
I have have a CLIQ in Titanium and even though it ships with the outdated Cupcake 1.5 OS, it's been pretty pleasant to use through out the day with some slight management with the Task Manager here and there. The battery life isn't as amazing as my 32B Magic but what can you expect when it's constantly pulling information from Facebook, Twitter, and Google? No doubt an update to Donut or Eclair could do wonders to optimize performance and battery life.
As much as I dislike TouchWiz, at least it's a customization of Android, instead of a stock installation. Everybody has gotten over the general Android fever and now people are expecting proper use of the platform (which has been done to a degree until now - and I don't think that TouchWiz will change it - but not to the extent of changing the OS much).
lol @ swingers reference
How is that cube from touchwiz usefull in any way?
"I want app X, hmmm let me play with the cube until I find it"
Meh. It's just a T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy packing the same old and tired Qualcomm 7200x 528mhz... Ugh!
And how do you know that? What's your source?
Anyone know if it will or might have UMA???? Grrrr....
From my understanding of 3G and UMA technology, 3G can't hand off to UMA, so that's why there are no 3G phones that have UMA. At least thats why my T-Mo rep told me.
I hope they can find a work around to that problem, because I
...I wonder about the compatibility (I've read some things online regarding it) BUT T-Mobile is coming out with a new Blackerry soon that supports 3G and UMA... so.... --I just want that feature in any phone I use with them. I only two bars of EDGE where I live and I'm always near a WiFi spot (home, work and Starbucks). I find it incredibly useful and I really like T-Mobiles customer service. I've been with them since they were Powertel back in 2001!
I thought that the new BB didn't have UMA? I could be wrong, as I can't remember where I heard that.
My house (and most of my street) is a absolute dead spot for every carrier other than Verizon (who I will never ever be a subscriber of), and I absolutely depend on UMA at home, but I would def like a Android phone that I could actually use at home.
It's nice to find a companion on this small boat that I am floating in.
Wow, this is really big news. This is the first I've heard of this, and it's going to be here by the holidays? That's awesome news!
The market is really starting to flood with very diverse Android devices and I'm loving every minute of it. Unique hardware designs with diverse takes on UI, all unified by a subset of code and ability to access a huge and fast-growing library of 3rd party apps, all on a variety of networks! Android is starting to really have an impact on the mobile OS market, and beginning to change the face of the market and how it's done.
The cube does nothing for me, unless I can change the applications that are attached to it - I've had my G1 for almost a year and I've never used the Amazon app, and I've used YouTube maybe five times.
The big question, though, is what the processor will be. I was really hoping to upgrade my G1 by the end of the year, but no one has released a true upgrade yet. This might not be the one for me anyway, though, as I prefer a hardware keyboard.
Come on everybody together now..UMA...UMA...UMA. Louder maybe they'll finally hear us.
I am a complete NOOB! What is UMA?
I think that's downright sexy. Love the button styles. That's my next phone. Hope the processor is good (at least as good as myTouch but hopefully better) and hope there is a headphone jack. If both of those things, this is golden to me.
Why does read link go only into t-mobile website and not direct link to the phone news itself?
think i am going with cliq
Yup, has a 3.5 jack. Played with it tonight a bit and it's not bad. I am hoping for some customization of the Cube though.
