HTC HD2 to arrive Stateside in early 2010 -- huzzah!
Snap, looks like that painful feeling in our gut was just from that late-night Mickey's sesh after all. HTC's Peter Chou told SlashGear today that the monstrous, amazing HTC HD2 will be coming to the United States of America sometime in Q1 of 2010. That's not too far off, but let's be honest -- it's gonna be a long wait.

i just pooped a little.
Chinese Food?
The beast has finally been freed, best news I've heard all day!
Just so we clear...not about this guy pooping lol
Personally, I'm excited he finally pooped a little, its been so long
This could be my mini tablet until the courier arrives! Now if it is $200 i would bite!
It will be available here in Denmark on the last week of october and I just preordered my speciman.
Although I loved Win mob with TouchFLO on my HTC TouchHD (which I still have) I must admit that since I got my HTC Hero last june I have become a total Android +SenseUI convert.
WIN mob with TouchFLO is good but Android+senseUi is on a class of its own, and the 1000s of amazing free apps available from Android market add even more to its appeal.
Whoever tried an Hero knows I am right.
please guys dont try an hero, its not worth it.
No way on earth will it be $200
The TP2 is 199-349 depending on the carrier and it's Winmo 6.1 + 3.6" Screen + 528MHz CPU
Now make it Winmo 6.5/7.0 + 4.3" Screen + 1GHz CPU and you can expect to pay at minimum $299...maybe 399.
$200? In the US? Not even after contract. This thing will be $299.99 with contract, or $599.99 unlocked.
Still f*cking cheap, dudes! What are you complaining about all the times?! We get these types of phones here in EU for about a $1000 unlocked and not many carriers offer these subsidised! :/
@ Plexus: how much you paid for it? where did you got it? can I get it unlocked? Thanks!
No way in heck it's gonna be $200
6.5 just doesn't cut it though :( Needs Android
Why?
I really need you to explain explicitly why it needs Android.
If you can't please forever hold your peace.
good god! enough with the "needs android" crap! seriously, all of these android posts in winmo articles are just as annoying as the iphone fanboy posts. enough!
6.5 and HTC's touchflo absolutely do cut it.
Is android any good for corporate users. I qualify for an upgrade and I am looking at either the android phones that were just announced for Verizon or going with WinMo 6.5. Does android play nice with Outlook and Microsoft Exchange?
Seriously, if you want Android that badly, you can be sure XDA will have a rom with it in not too long, but until then be happy with a great WinMo experience thanks to insanely fast hardware combined with great HTC software.
As was dished on TechCrunch and Gizmodo today, WinMo 6.5 is only finger-friendly on the surface. Android is finger-friendly throughout. Android integrates tightly with google's services, which I use extensively, and with the Sense UI, it's even more attractive.
That's why this phone needs Android over WinMo in MY opinion.
guarantee bryan is just a freetard who never even used an android device before is a wannabe open source developer and lives with his parents
To answer all the "Why?"s up there, here it is
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/windows-mobile-6-5-review/
http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/10/06/windows-mobile-6-5-review-it-still-sucks/
@ Ryan: In the case of this phone, WinMo 6.5 is perfect. HTC has spent tons of effort re-skinning the entire OS. You hardly EVER see the raw platform. The result is incredibly finger-friendly throughout, and very beautiful.
Did you see the video of 6.5/TF3D UI that this phone is running? It makes your links look like crap.
I thought I read that Windows Mobile 6.5 does not support capacitive touch screens, which is why none have been featured on a WM device so far. Unless I'm mistaken, how is it possible that this one supports a capacitive touch screen?
NeoteriX
The HD2 will support multitouch.
@Neoterix
Windows Mobile uses drivers just like its desktop relatives, so AFAIK you can add pretty much whatever the hell you want to it. While the stock operating system doesn't come with support for capacitive hardware, HTC has seen fit to write their own drivers.
I'll gladly wait instead of getting the Touch Pro2. ATT, you better get this!
Why bother? AT&T will probably just ruin the device as they always do.
That's the beauty of it being a WinMo smartphone! You can easily just reflash a clean ROM without ATT's bloatware.
ATT at most will only affect key placement on a qwerty keypad, but since the LEO doesn't have this, then nothing with change.
ATT doesn't alter the internal hardware like Verizon has done in the past.
I with you. But I though Tmo was getting it...
There are so many smart phones available now, who cares about this one. If a was a little cooler and hipper i'd get an IPhone, like millions of other people.
well this will definitely be my next phone, i applaud htc for this phone, i hope its a huge success for them
Until they release an Android or Win7 version I doubt it will be a huge success.
Let's do work sprint...
And think of this baby with android...that's be mighty sexy.
Yeah I'm praying for CDMA right now
If I can get it on Sprint w/ my SERO plan... I'm all over it! Otherwise, may the next WM7 phone please stand up...
I swear, if Sprint restricts this phone from SERO people, I will find one of them and bite them. Then again, if they allow me to upgrade to this from my Touch Pro for 50 dollars cause I have TEP, I will bite myself. Your move sprint.
I will be ready to pay up to $300 for it, if it is available on SERO. I don't care if it's gonna be WinMo or Android; When you are a SERO customer you are not very picky!
See Petition!
http://www.petitiononline.com/SERO/petition.html
Agreed.
If Sprint gets this, then I get this too, no matter the cost.
But they better allow it on SERO!
Sometimes in Q1? Let me guess, the end of April then? Geez, just roll out Winmo 7 already.
Q1 ends in March, but still a valid point.
A certain AT&T-exclusive phone's days are numbered.
That may be but it won't be a POS WM phone that does it.
This phones like a rotten apple. It may look good from the outside but inside it's rotten and dead.
@ laxfan0930
You're right, the iPhone is indeed a rotten apple that looks good on the outside but is rotten in the inside. Just like it's company! Oh the irony of the apple example gets me...
If you think WM6.5 is even close to iPhone OS you are either stupid, brainwashed, or work for MS. That or forced to use it for work/too poor to upgrade to something better so you make yourself believe its better.
RANK ME DOWN BUT... iPhone has 90% satisfaction rate. You gotta admit that's hard to do.
Scientology has a 90% satisfaction rate too, and for the same reason.
90% of the statistics in this thread were pulled out of your asses.
Im pretty sure this phone was built so it can be upgraded to 7 down the road.
That is my exact hope. I've been itching to find something to replace my iPhone, and WinMo 7 and this phone looks like the business.
I've been on an "I hate Apple" tear ever since I couldn't speak to someone at the apple store because I didn't "Have an appointment with a genius". Whatever. Get over yourself.
iMac, replaced with windows 7... Done (and loving it, I'm a PC, eat it apple)
iPhone, replaced with HTC HD2... Done
yeah man, im tired of my iphone also. sure the os is nice but the hardware sucks so bad. this phone will definitely b the iphone killer. to be honest, the only reason why iphone has the success that it has is because it was the first phone you truly integrate touch screen functionality. other that, iphone is a FAIL!!! but the HTC HD2 wont :)
also, i have windows 7 also....LOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!
I just cried a little!
YES!
That other site reported it wasn't coming here and I became sad. Now I am happy. I will ditch my 3GS for this in a heartbeat. I'll pay cancellation fees, I'll do anything. IT'S ON.
Too little, too late. By the time that rolls around we'll be drooling over something else...
Two things to look forward to in 2010....The Libs getting crushed in congress and this baby upsetting the Iphone fan bois
Bye bye iPhone... WinMo welcome back! :)
hopefully every single u.s. carrier will subsidize this phone.
any guesses on carrier? i'd bet its on verizon, since at&t seems fairly reluctant to put anything on their network that could outshine their golden boy the iphone.
TMOBILE !!!
US, we can trade, HTC leo for ZUNE HDs... :D
deal! you send me a leo that works on our 3g bands and i'll send you a zune hd. one could do a lot worse than $289 for this phone!
Q1 2010 = 3/31/2010
puff long wait !!! gizmodo has just made the review and it sucks
Needs iPhone....
Or at the very least Android in that bitch....
To all above>
This phone is confirmed for Windows Mobile 7 upgrade path.
Opinion:
I hope this phone comes to ATT, and comes early Q1. I absolutely abhor my iPhone because of its utter lack of being a smart phone or a PDA.
Question: in TouchHD can you use the normal e-mail view? Do you have normal outlook functionality when using active sync to an Exchange 07 server?
I too find my iPhone very annoying but since when is it not a smartphone?
Hmm if it's on Verizon do I wait for this or the Sholes/Tao/Driod/Whatever.
When are they going to offer phones with the user's choice of OS? Would it be so hard? "So you would like the HTC Hero? Great choice! Would you like that with WinMo or Android?"
FREakin' A YUSS!!!!
BRING IT!!!
didnt you see the review on giz?? it sucks
6.5 is a new UI.
HTC put their own UI on this.
Giz's biased review doesn't matter.
Link or it didn't happen.
Gizmodo didn't DO a review. There is no link, only a fail trying to say this phone sucks.
Portugal you GOTTA try harder.
has this just been released in the UK ??
I had an email from this company -
HTC HD2
Windows Mobile 6.5
With £30 eXpansys Vouchers
Now £549.99
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=188866&partner=uknews
Phone specs = Two thumbs up
WM 6.5 = Worthless...
yessssssssss
While it's super nice, it's not gonna compete at the $199 price point, and, come April 2010, there are going to be a LOT of other next gen phones out...
Spending this kind of loot for a WM6.5 device is crazy, unless you're not like me, and money ain't a thang.
I really can't wait for WM7. Just like I can't wait for MS to launch an SDK for the Zune and improve its web browser.
I hope Hesse has this Up his Sleeve...along with some more Android goodies.
why those new android/winmo phones so similar these days? i mean, large screen with just a line of buttons at the end?
Has nobody ready all the recent reviews of 6.5? It's a joke platform
Lol I know right?
People are acting like it's some sorta of improvement rather than a lil nip and tuck plus a face lift.
Let's wait till WinMo 7 at least before jumping in the water.
Hell I'd rather get a Blackberry than a WinMo device right now after the nightmare I had with the Touch Pro.
If this is priced over $49. It will fail here in America.
Americans can get iPhone 3 g for $49.
Am I right? Or does someone think this will have massive sales in USA ,.
This doesn't need to become the next "it" phone so I doubt it matters. And the 3GS starts at 199.
Jizzed in my pants :P
2010??!!!? wtf
I'm not sure why everyone assumes 6.5 is going to be so amazing, when nobody here has probably ever used it. The fact is, it's just a mask/modest facelift over a clunky and non touch-friendly operating system. I do agree with everyone who said it needs android. In such a short period of time, it has proven to be an easy/fast/powerful operating system with endless possibilities, with a R&D team committed to making it better and better as it grows. Microsoft is just trying to buy themselves some time before WM7 comes out (one year from now) and do their best to mirror Apple's iPhone, wow, very innovative MSFT.
@Tristan dude plenty of people have used, and have BEEN using 6.5
Cya Iphone. GIVE ME WIMAX ON THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No need for a new netbook.
Thanks GOD!, I've not been this happy in quite a long time.
now if it could only come to AT&T or T-Mobile.
-
It't now time to save some money, I am sure it will be (without contract) 699$
From Gizmodo:
"Windows Mobile 6.5 isn't just a letdown—it barely seems done. It's a superficial update, and not a very thorough one. It's an interim product, and a vain attempt to hold onto the thinning ranks people who still choose Windows Mobile despite not being somehow tethered to it until the tardy Windows Mobile 7 comes out, whenever that may be. And it won't work."
I understand. Could we get you to keep your redundant opinions to a single post? Thanks.
HTC puts their own UI on here so Giz's biased review doesn't matter.
WHAT DONT YOU UNDERSTAND
Whoooooa whoa whoa - hold the fuck up. And I was about to buy a Hero on Sunday. Cancel that, rock on!!
OMG! Engadget, is this for real? As in, fa sho?
You have no idea how happy I am to hear that!
...
Well, Sprint, tanomimasu! ^_^.
ibnobodypays$800forit....
That just made my day, now hopefully it will be coming to AT&T :)
I wonder with new releases of WinMo, will mulit touch be enabled and thus this phone would have a future proof aspect to it :D if so that to me is a big selling point for this phone. plus that display...oh my goodness, slap an AMOLED screen on there and i will pass out in it's glory :P
Give me webOS in this beast and I will gladly give you my soul!
srsly - ive been using 6.5/touchflo3D2 on a 2.8" screen with my fingers just fine. The HD2 will be juuust fine.
In other words the Touch Pro/Diamond? It's possible, just not comfortable.
With a screen this size, this will easily become the best touch screen-only phone in the market, whether it sells a dozen million or not.
