Our friend Drita at Engadget Spanish was lucky enough to spend some extended moments with HTC's just announced HD2 -- also known as the Leo. It's got exactly the same specs we just heard about: a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display, a 1GHz MSM8250 Snapdragon processor, integrated FM radio, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. They found this Windows Mobile 6.5 baby to be elegant and light feeling in the hand, the touchscreen to be responsive and quick, and HTC's Sense UI beautiful. The phone's also quite snappy, and we have to say we can't wait to get our hands on one ourselves. As far as availability goes -- well, we know it's going to run €649 and it will be available in November on Vodaphone in Spain (we've also heard it's headed to T-Mobile UK), with additional carriers following after December. Check out the gallery, and head over to Engadget Spanish for a fuller hands-on experience.
YES! Put android with sense UI or whatever it's called on this thing and bring it to the us and I would kill for it(or pay my early cancelation fee for my iPhone contract)
Again with no HD love for the US. Why HTC? WHY??? I'm on AT&T, but I doubt they'd take something so obviously competitive with the iPhone. That being said, I have no contract, and will switch in a heartbeat. All you gotta do is stick the right radios in these things. I know you can do it, HTC. You're smart. You can do it! C'mon!
Actually, the US always gets the best. When the HTC Hero first came out it was all laggy and everyone complained about it. But when it came to sprint it was a totally diferent phone.
In order to comply with the standard handset manufacturer rule of a minimum of 1 terrible flaw per phone, they have gone for a 1230mAh battery to power this huge screen.
53 photos and none of a virtual keyboard - perhaps input is by concentrating really hard.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. Like it or not, Apple makes the best use of an on screen keyboard with the iPhone. That being said, without good implementation of an onscreen keyboard, I can't s see this going over well, totally awesome spec sheet or not.
Now that i seen the the video i had to comment again on how sexy this phone is. C'mon HTC the US of A are major consumers in electronics. Throw us a bone here.
that's a beautiful phone. i'll give htc props for this one. the ui doesn't look bad either. a little cluttered and complicated for my liking, i still prefer the iphones simplicity, but still pretty. I too am concerned about battery life with all these flashy things going on on the screen. it's like a constant 3d game being played.
Everybody wants to find a flaw in a electronic if it does'nt have a apple logo on it. Do me a favor if youre a apple fanboi comment on apple products only. Iphone just got MMS you didnt find that annoying after years of it being used on other smartphones? Youre not mad that your laptops wont be getting the core i7's for another couple of years.
Nice, I really like the hardware aspect of this phone, despite the screen being a complete mirror xD (check 2:19) I do hate Windows Mobile though, 6.5 is no improvement.
I pray this comes to US Verizon. Not sure why so many people are hoping for this on AT&T. Must not be iPhone people, worst part about the iPhone is AT&T, I'd hate them to cripple another good phone.
I know technology moves on fast and your brand new phone looks old a year (or less) later, but HTC's really done it this time!! How much better can it get?! I can't wait for my contract to be up for renewal (Xmas) to get it. And if Orange UK won't have it (any news on that btw?), I have absolutely no problem to go with O2 or T-mob. Way to go HTC and WM :)
I can't wait to see the HTC Dragon, but tbh I rather it come in the design of the Hero (European) model that is. I really wish the Hero didn't sit with that old processor but I honestly don't require much when it comes to basic functions so it may suffice.
While I am happy to see the video and the response of the device... but, ever hear of a tripod?
Holding a cam in one hand and trying to demo a phone in the other is pretty silly. Makes for a terrible "walk-through".
Things I like to see in a demo are: How about making a call on the device? Seeing the address book? Seeing some web pages and the browser experience? Using the MULTI-TOUCH capabilities. Pinching and squeezing. Actually typing on the keyboard. Seeing apps specific to the device. Receiving a call. Sending an email or text.
If you are going to do a quick run through of the device, at least do it right...

I second that! Waiting around for some Snapdragon + Android goodness.
This baby running android would be absolute pure win for me, but i despise Windows Mobile so no sale for me, real shame, even with Touch Flo 3D.

it's a lady
That looks like a babes hand to me. :P
this is gonna have horrible batery life

You call that a phone? Now THIS is a phone. (Mitch Dundee)

@Chris & GH
Im sure that can be fixed with a few upgrades. Iphone, now they're just slow period.

@GH1
Here's a screenshot of the virtual keyboard. It's the same as on the HTC Hero, which means it's really good, especially on that huge screen!
Oh, silly me, forgot the URL :D

I would drop my blackberry bold for this thing

In Germany it will be 619 € (officially), available end of October.
It's almost an HTC tablet! Who can hold it to their ear for any amount of time?!?!
People who don't have small hands like you.
Anyone who isn't a limp wristed iphone user.

Looks great and snappy,
Needs multitouch in the browser for zooming and also needs a landscape keyboard. And more landscape/vertical support.
It HAS both of those first things...
No, it does not.

VodaFone, not VodaPHone
I`m loving it :o
If Sprint doesn't bring this, a puppy will die.
Fa sho.

It's funny how things get better and better but the batteries just get crappier and crappier.
this has to be a camera with the hugest viewfinder ever!
htc should just release all phones with world 3g bands so that we can get all of them unlocked if we want.
So the rest of the world has to pay more just to satisfy Americans who chose to use non-standard frequencies? No thanks.
What's another hundred or two on top of 700 euros?
@ jakem: not just Americans... Canadians too Besides, it's not the American/Canadian PEOPLE who choose to use those bands. :P
Besides, if every phone maker made all their phones world phones, it would probably keep cost down.
So whens it out on o2?
Drool.... WANT!
HTC is the best. What an awesome phone. I've been good this year Santa, please give me one.
Looks nice! I'm starting to love it.
If this had browsing/input comparable to the iPhone 3GS I just got I would def drop the iPhone for this. Wish winmo 7 was out.
Not bad, I'll take one.

Will this be available on SERO??? :P

I have never seen so much win from a WinMo phone. If I wasn't getting a Hero in two days I might would be waiting for this.

It's coming to the US in Q1 2010. w00000t. Now I just have to pray that my AT&T Tilt can last that long.
Very slick phone. Now I wonder what the battery life will be. 2 hours?!

@Ryan Trevisol:
The only phone Sprint "ugly'd up" was the Hero, which I don't care about.
The work they did with the Touch Pro2 is actually nice imo.
