Android accounts for one-quarter of mobile web traffic
Android is mopping up Apple and RIM's declining mobile mindshare in the US, you'll find nothing but corroboration from Quantcast. The analytics firm reckons a full one-quarter of mobile web traffic stateside comes from devices running Google's OS

What isn't mentioned in Thomas' article is the killer statistic: 85% of all consumer Mac owners in the US also own a Windows OEM PC. As the survey also shows that 12% owned a Mac that means that the percentage of Mac exclusive consumers in the US is... err... 1.8%. And, of course, that doesn't include the ones who are running Windows on their Macs.
So what this story is actually telling us - and what our Apple friendly chums have, again, failed to notice (along with most of the tech bloggers it seems - is that affluent Americans own a variety of gadgets and that they buy Macs and PCs. What it doesn't tell us is if they stopped buying Macs or PCs when they bought the other and also which of the two they use the most.
In other words, classifying 'affluent Americans' as 'Apple buyers' is wrong.
You do have to account for one thing though,the last survey cited 9% mac market share,which means in a depression the mac share has grown 3%,make sense of that!
You realize that you're expecting people to understand a little bit about statistical theory, right?
@Sonic
Undoubtedly. The question is how many of them also bought PCs - overall PC sales have declined mainly due to corporate cutbacks but we're talking about affluent consumers here so I'm not sure you can make a corelation. It would be more useful if there was data around the question "what types of computer have you bought in the last twelve months"
@Matt
I suppose. I'd just settle for some of the tech bloggers thinking to begin with though.
Only Engadget would take this study and come away with it being some validation about how super awesome Apple users are. Good lord.
Pretty much every household has a PC.
Then there are the people who buy gadgets. The more gadgets you buy the more likely one of them is a Mac.
I'd bet you would get higher gadget count with people that own Digital SLR than people who dont. Same with flash camcorder. Or GPS. Or electronic nail clipper.
What's been proven is gadget buyers buy often a mac, eg mac is a gadget.
you are correct. they are talking about owners. not buyers. for all we know that household with both a PC and a Mac bought the PC 2 years ago and the Mac yesterday.
