Samsung Intrepid intros Sprint to Windows Mobile 6.5 on October 11
Looking for a worthy successor to that aging Ace? Sprint customers need no longer wonder when they'd be up for their own dose of WinMo 6.5 because the carrier has officially announced the Intrepid, a portrait QWERTY device that basically brings the design of the OmniaPRO B7320 and AT&T's Jack over the CDMA world. Like its predecessor, though, the Intrepid isn't just about CDMA -- it'll also do GSM for global roaming, so feel free to pack it as you gallivant across the Mediterranean, and unlike the Jack, the Intrepid's got a QVGA touchscreen up top to compliment the chiclet keys down below. At any rate, you'll be able to pick this up starting this Sunday, October 11 for $149.99 on contract after rebates -- the same price as a Pure over on AT&T, coincidentally, so pick your poison.[Thanks, Jay]

Only wiggers like samsung.
hey now! I have an omnia and it's...well...you know...garbage.
Kind of find it odd it doesn't have touchwiz interface.
It could feature touch wiz, after all they didn't put up any shots of the home screen.
I think I'll stick with buying the Hero on Sunday...
No it doesn't http://www.wmexperts.com/sprint-samsung-intrepid-hands basic windows 6.5 looks like 6.1 standard.

Do you think Sprint would be advertising it as a touchscreen when it isn't?
Why would there be an onscreen dialpad if it isn't a touchscreen???
Probably because it has a touchscreen...
If the GSM bit is unlocked, I could be tempted... maybe. Dual-band or Quad-band GSM?
This looks like to be the nicer little brother to the Samsung Epix, and Saga(both of which have a higher res screen, wifi, and optical mouse).
UGH, no GPS? Dual-band and wifi but no stinkin GPS. Typical.

it has GPS. they just didn't bullet-point it.
Wow... You're an idiot...
I hope it's more reliable than my Dodge Intrepid.

please god let this kid's iphone explode in his face and permanently disfigure him
LOL, $49 for a refurb iPhone on ATT? LMAO Talk about a Fail! Go play with your unicorns and kittens you pixie dust hopped up freak.
Yea but it still looks like a windows 6.1 standard phone the form factor and the way OS if I was an average consumer Id think so but yea it obviously has a touchscreen
The touchscreen/physical keyboard candybar is a dying breed I hope RIM, Samsung, and Palm revive (pixi). I love my treo pro. I tried phones like an e71 and the keyboard is superior but in terms of sheer efficiency, the comparison is not even close.
Totally with you. I love the candybar form factor with both touchscreen and full keyboard and its a pain to see so little effort is spent on it. On screen keyboard is just not doing for me, but lacking a touchscreen can be annoying too. Its sad android seems not going for this form factor and RIM strangely hasn't yet come up with a device like that yet. So far samsung and palm are the only major fighters still keeping up.
Good point, I am a fan of my Samsung ace but after two years and with buggy WM 6.1, I started trying out other phones. Tried the tour and the BB OS is just awful and was surprised the 6.1 was smarter and better (even though it was laggy and buggy). Currently trying the Pre which I am impressed with but am going to try the Hero and might take a look at this Intrepid. Typically I got to have the keyboard so I dont know how the Hero will stack up, but I do wish that a good solid candybar phone (with or without touch) would come out with Android to be used as a real powerhouse business unit like the Blackberries. Sorry to say, but the InstinctQ looks like a teen-texter.
Another fail device running winmo.
Uah Rick, my guess is you don't know much about the smartphone market. there is a huge market for front facing qwerty on WinMob. I geuss you are an iphone fanboy and used to paying three times as much for less power and utility. Good for you.
This is a great handset. and Unlike your iphone can be used in Europe with ANY sim.
