We're not sure that the keyboard meets the lofty standard set by the CLIQ / DEXT, but arguably the
Moment's single most important feature -- the slide-out QWERTY keyboard -- has decent feel. It's very clicky and requires a surprising amount of pressure to actuate individual keys, but not enough to be frustrating -- it just feels solid. Overall, the phone's a little bulky and has a plastic overtone to it, but fortunately, the screen's at least as good as the G1 and Magic for feel and there's no "give" to speak of; OLED's gorgeous (as always) indoors, but the true test of trying to view this thing in the sunlight might not come until we've had a chance to take delivery of a review unit. The software's essentially stock Android with a few Sprint apps (including Sprint TV) peppered in for good measure. Check out our hands-on gallery, won't you?
What's the resolution? 480x320 or 800x480?
480x320, I believe.
what i really need to know is whether this is running the S3C6430 or the S3C6410. S3C6430 doesn't have 3d acceleration, S3C6410 does. Not having 3d acceleration would be a total deal breaker.
It seems like the only possibility is the S3C6410, as the S3C6430 doesn't even seem to be in production... however, Samsung may not have updated their website -- but seems unlikely Samsung developed this entire platform around a chip which wasn't currently under mass-production.

Confirmed it has the S3C6410: https://developer.sprint.com/site/global/develop/technologies/android/devices/androiddevices.jsp
Thanks for the link. I noticed that under the Hero it says:
Flash: 5MP
WTF? I am pretty sure hero does not have flash.
Android has OpenGL ES and I'm guessing to be a Google Experience phone it should at least have 3d acceleration for that.
Is there a 3.5mm jack anywhere?
It's on the top of the device
Somebody please tell me if this has the S3C6410 in it!! I need to know. Having a proc that fast is useless without 3d acceleration.
Couple of minor questions,
1. Compass? useless except for Augmented reality stuff where it rocks.
2. Screen? Glass or plastic?
3. multitouch?
Thx
I disagree about the usefullness of the compass. GPS alone cannot provide you with accurate relative direction in terms of N,S,E,W without actual movement in a particular direction, whereas a compass can without any movement at all -- this is often why GPS applications get confused at intersections when they loose contact with satellites -- it can be percieved movement, and sometimes the applications tend to confuse it with a change in direction, thus causing the software to try an recalulate your route. (Seemingly at the most inoppurtune moments too.) If you add the input of a compass to this equation, its easier to compensate for such behaviors and keep your routes sane and steady.
My point simply is, I welcome compasses on phones very eagerly.
But thats just my two cents.
@Ryan, Good point, I didn't mean to belittle the compass because if this lacks one, then I'm getting the hero.
Can't wait for more info on this! i got to play wife my freinds android over the weekend and it was awesome, I'm starting to hate my Palm Centro!
looks like the fast sprint android phone with the faster hard ware and better screen is running a less animated stock GUI, and the one with the heavily animated GUI, visual eye candy has slower hardware and a less detailed screen? (Thanks HTC) I would like this phone with HTCs touchwiz/flow whatever software.
No Touchwiz? That's awesome, should make it easier to update Android when new version are released. This is nearly the perfect Android phone, fulfills my wishlist of features for sure. So glad I didn't preorder a Hero. I wonder how many people will decide to go with this phone instead.
anyone notice the weird layout of the bottom row of keys?
Yeah, I kinda wish they would have just left the number row off and kept it standard qwerty with numbers as a shift key option like almost every other phone on the planet. Ah well, it still seems great. I'll just have to try it out in the store before buying one.
so anyone know if its possible to root the Sense UI onto the Moment?
is that a directional pad below the screen? how is Android without a trackball? i personally don't like trackballs, but since the developer phone has a trackball, apps (especially games) may behave differently with different input methods?
Man my Eternity was stolen from a Dollar Store of all places in May an so it gave me an excuse to hop onto Sprint I love it but when I came in I had a Instinct S30 which I liked but it didnt feel so great so I traded it for a HTC Diamond which is pretty good now that I put a 6.5 rom on it but with all these Sprint phones coming out god musn't have liked me haha cause damn I gotta wait another year just so I can upgrade cause Im to poor to buy a phone without a contract.

Sprint got it goin' on!
Shucks. Now I'm torn between Samsung's Moment and Motorola's Sholes/Tao/Droid. The Motorola STD has a much larger screen (3.7" and 854x480 res, vs the Moment's 3.2" 480x320 res), but the Moment has a faster processor and is on a cheaper network...
Hmmmmm
Nice phone but i hate to see operator name on my phone. I would rather buy it without subscription so i get a clean phone (possible in Sweden atleast usually).
it makes the phone so ugly i think. I just want the company/product name and nothing more on the phone.
Hmm... So looks like this phone will require an EP while the Hero will NOT require one.
I want to keep SERO, but this phone looks like a much better phone (hardware wise) and likely can run the Sense UI.
Hero actually requires it as well. I know man, it's very frustrating
check this out http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?SERO&1
I know I will have to give up SERO at one point or another, but this is crazy.
Did they change their policy on the Hero? So far I haven't seen Sprint say it will be required.
Sprint is on it this year! If only they could expand coverage
Is this going to be a world phone as well? It says here it is GSM also http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Samsung-Moment-phone-p_4005.html If it is I'm all over it.
The way sprint redesigned the hero's hardware, you'd think they would make samsung do a little redesign on this phone to make it better looking. I like the form factor, its just that faux-silver plastic on the top half that kind of bothers me, would rather have it in black.
date?
Date = November 1st. $479.99 - $150.00 (two-year activation) - $50.00 (instant savings) - $100.00 (mail-in rebate) = $179.99 (final price) http://now.sprint.com:80/android/moment/?id9=vanity:moment
I've been considering switching to t-mobile or sprint for an android handset, and I'm stuck between the cliq and this one. This one has keys that look more like my current env2, which I can type very quickly on, so I'm liking what I see here.
