Why? You make me sad. :'(
I really thought Apple would "fix" the Pre sync issue lol
Oh don't worry that's on their list of things to "fix"...
With an iPhone firmware update?
Fix it like you get a dog fixed :\
Hooking an iPod Touch or iPhone with OS 3.1.2 to a Windows machine will infect it with a virus designed to brick any subsequently connected Palm Pre devices.
No software update will ever fix AT&T's network issues...
A good fix for their network would be to buy Verizon. I've lived the AT&T nightmare for far too long.
And yet I never had ATT network issues......
Yeah, I'm in the middle of Massachusetts and I get 3G most of the time.
You folks who don't get 3G should join the folks who don't think the PS3 has games. And you could all commiserate together. What a fun time that would be.
If you don't like AT&T get it on another network. You can choose Orange, Vodafone, Telstra, China Mobile, Telefonica, Rogers and O2 to name just a few.
@xcrunk: Same here. I am in the middle of the central valley where it is nothing but agriculture and I always have a 3G unless I am literally in the middle of a farm ten miles from town.
Yeah, pssh. You bought an Apple product. If you don't like the only carrier Apple has blessed in /your/ area, the obvious choice is to move overseas.
I don't understand why people who live in places that AT&T sucks would buy an iPhone. I have one and am very happy with it. But I only purchased it because I was with AT&T already and they are strong in my area. Verizon rocks here too, so I would have gone with iPhone if it was Verizon. Sprint or T-Mobile, no way.
@Joanna D
So your advice is to move to a different country if AT&T doesn't work for you?
Sarcasm, billg, I know the internet is new for you but try to keep up
@ Cro...ow: You mean places like New York City? AT&T has problems putting up a high enough density of 3G towers in heavy traffic areas. Some places it works fine, but in others -- where most people live, for instance -- there are intermittent or persistent problems.
nyc's network blows, it was perfectly fine when i got the phone 2 years ago, now its miserable. i will have full service, all bars, 3g, and nothing will work, no internet, no sms, and every call fails until i restart the phone (where it works once and breaks again) or switch permanently to edge
What is the download size this time?
306.2 MB
I am getting a 247MB download? Dear god APPLE...
Urrr while I understand the approach... it does away with the need to apply the series of patches if u need to format back to vanilla cause every update is the whole thing.
I wish there was another way though (beside the ol' update through the series of incramemtal patches). Though i suppose injected code patches into the main install file is just ripe for the hacking n worse
sigh....
Hunh, I've been troubleshooting my TMob data networking on my unlocked iPhone all day, can't get the data service working. Wonder if there's any chance they futzed with it due to this release...?
Anyone else with an unlocked phone having trouble?
T-Mobile started cutting off data service to iPhones a while ago, TUAW broke that story. I'm surprised you still had it working up until now.
U forgot to mention another fix: pissing off the entire jailbreak community
Seriously! They haven't even gotten redsn0w out for Windows, and Apple pushes out another update! Guess I'll stick with 3.0 for now...
update now!

hate mail in 3... 2...
i bet you all the fanboys are going to come over here like N900 to bash on apple because of these issues. problem is N900 does not get his facts straight
I never made that connection that my random network loss was due to bugs... it probably happened three or four times. At least it's fixed now so it will "just work" once again.
Good to see the Network issue is fixed... My phone has required a restart each morning before I am able to send and receive any sort of TEXT or Phone message.
Hopefully 3.1.2 is more stable...
me too! and sometimes i don't even know when it's off the network since it shows that i have 5 bars/3g connected!
Surprised by a new update today, wow. Nice.
I admit, restarting my phone in areas where there's weak service helps me get re-connected. Hopefully this update helps with that.
HAHAHAHAHA, why is the phone called the best phone of all time?
I love it when I get a voice mail 3 days after it was put in my voice mailbox.
There's also a carrier update immediately after the upgrade... I wonder what that's about?
Perhaps that was the MMS update? I got that some time last week.
No, I got that last week as well. Although, maybe it has to be updated after each OS upgrade...
"iPhone OS 3.1's Greatest Bug Hits"
...which, BTW, is now available on iTunes for $9.99.
AT&T guy told me that network issues were because iPhone had a worse range than normal phones. Wonder if this is true, but you never hear too many people complaining about their blackjack 2 or HTC dropping calls like hell.
I went through several phones and all had call drop issues.

It isn't the phones, its the network in the area I live in.
My iPhone 3G sucks abysmally (technical term) at my place in Florida. It would be easy--and would seem logical--to blame it on the phone. But the phone pegs 4 or 5 bars at my home in kentucky--a 90-year-old house with block-on-block construction that you'd think would be hard to penetrate. So my problems in florida are clearly not the phone's fault, it's ATT's system.
This is anecdotal of course so doesn't disprove the allegation that the phone has limited range. It merely suggests there are other possibilities, too.
If "it just works", then why does it need so many updates that simply fix problems in the last one?
Because these kinds of things are made by human beings. STFU.
The real question is - does it fix the battery life being drained ultra fast issue that came up in 3.1.1?
My friend has been complaining of battery issues a lot after the last update. He doesn't think the battery is actually getting drained, but instead the phone is just not displaying the battery life correctly. A restart always resets it, but he shouldn't have to do that.
I want to know the same thing. I barely get 9 or 10 hours of battery life out of my phone and I don't use it much during the day.
Hopefully. An issue with hitting the tower correctly would explain why the battery runs low trying to hit the tower ...
My battery life has been awful since 3.1. I even swapped the battery thinking that may have been the issue, and the new one (which theoretically has 1/2 again more juice) still doesn't last 24 hours on a full charge.
I think you should point out that those are just fake bugs. They're not really there, nor will they ever be in any Apple product, but Apple is just testing updates. Because they're awesome like that.
Palm Pre will not be affected, right?
