Asus Eee Top ET2002 reviewed, thoroughly enjoyed
The kids at Liliputing got their hands on the Asus Eee Top ET2002 all-in-one recently and were cool enough to both put it through its paces and clue us in on their findings. According to the reviewer the device, which sports a 1.6GHz Dual Core Atom 330 processor, a 20-inch / 1600 x 900 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive, was "impressive... in many ways." It easily handles 1080p playback and video games that would cause "most Intel-Atom based PCs to choke." Aside from the ION graphics, unfortunately, this guy comports itself like a "typical" Atom netbook: unzipping large files takes forever, boot times are slow, and the system sometimes felt overtasked when browsing the web. Then again, when you're spending less than $600 on a machine (Amazon's currently selling 'em for $581) you're going to have to make some compromises. How do the Dual core atoms stack up compared to the Pentium Dual-Cores? I've heard bad things. Things like allegations that the Pentium 4 Prescott series is more powerful.
The pentiums are more powerful when it comes to processor intensive tasks, like file zipping and video encoding.
Atom does multi-threading/coring better. But the main advantage is the power usage. For the power it takes to run the p4 system for 1 day you could probably run the atom system for 3-4 days. Just a guess.
Pentium Dual-cores are Core 2 chips with less L2 cache.
Different class from Atoms, remember Atoms are in-order CPUs like Pentium 1, rubbish at multi-tasking and slower than the old 900Mhz Celerons they replaced.
Yeah, they'd definitely be slower than Prescott, as the other guy said they're slower than the 900mhz Celerons that used to be in the EeePC.
I have always wondered what the "Eee" stand for...
i would think that it's Envious Electrical Engineers??? it's eeeasy life
Easy to learn, Easy to play and Easy to work.
In fact, the pronunciation of Eee also means Easy in Chinese:-) (Asus' a Taiwanese brand )
Build yourself something much better for 600$. Or, just buy a much nicer computer w/o a monitor. I love Asus, but they should stick to netbooks. Slow boot times on a desktop is not cool.
I boot my desktop a hell of a lot less frequently than I boot my notebook, so I don't know why it would be cooler for a notebook to take a long time to boot. This isn't a replacement for a regular desktop... this is for someplace you need an extra computer for lightweight tasks: Kitchen, living room, whatever.
I doubt they'll find a large market for it but it'll be just the thing for some people.
I made up my mind that I'm gonna buy one of this kind of machines when they will come with win7; I'm just not sure if it's better to go for one of these dual cored AIO or to go after the Asus "PC in a keyboard".
I would love to see a compared review of those two
Not ripping windows, but try a lighter OS perhaps. No slow boots, and HD works fine. Also, the 330 is easily overclockable to 2Ghz, though the fsb maxes out at 667 I think.
Engadget, would it kill you to use "and" instead of a comma for once?
just be thankful that they didn't do 'text talk' :-)
microsoft's phrase is also eee, embrace extend exterminate. Asus' is easy to work easy to learn easy to play. Look them both up.
more interested in the acer aspire revo 3600. If it is under 400 bucks that will be a pretty sweet little machine.
I just love reviews, especially when i know nothing about computers haha

At least these newer nettops are getting better specs and the prices are going up appropriately. In another year people might be back to consistently buying normal dual- and quad-core processors again.
I hope I never have to buy a slow computer again. I've sold my netbook after 2 months of use because I couldn't stand the speed, not to mention that I had upgraded the memory and was still no where near what I wanted. Before someone comment saying that netbook are for surfing the web and other minor stuff, I do know, but even for doing that I thought it was slow.
With this Asus all-in-one, for what it seems, I rather pay twice or more for that Vaio L all-in-one which it's way more hardware.
Why would I spend $581 on a PC that is slow at unzipping files, drags during boot, and feels overtasked when browsing the Web? All this sacrifice just to save a few dollars on my energy bill?
Yeah, you can get a decent PC with probably a Core2 Duo for that much. Not an all-in-one, but damn those things are overrated and useless.
The cheapest iMac is $1,200! You could buy two of these for less than that. Of course the iMac is better. So is almost anything that costs twice as much. If you don't care about the money or the power savings/green thing then buy the more expensive box. You're making a stupid comparison.
Anyone have any idea how the touchscreen version of this (Asus's ET2002T) compares with MSI's AE2010 all-in-one? I'm trying to decide between the two - wish there was some sort of side-by-side comparison between the two out there somewhere...
That looks exactly like a mac. Exactly. What the hell!
It's even got the computer attached to the screen.
And the flat keyboard
And the space wallpaper.
Apparently you guys don't get sarcasm.
Regarding Video Games, I think that the demograph of eeePc users would be most interested in a Sims 3 game,
So once netbooks are powerful enough to play that, or if EA releases a netbook version, the netboos will not be considered gamebooks
Me, I prefer Street Fighter 4
"Easily handles 1080p playback"...on a '900p' display? Fail for both Asus and Engadget reporting. :(
More like fail on your part. It has an HDMI out.
Or you could get a cheapo dell vostro 220 with a 20" monitor for 400 bucks, which will run circles around this piece of shit, and OH!! it'll save you at least 100 bucks...
RUBBISH... Pure garbage... Put that dual core into a netbook, netbooks have been in dire need of this for years now... (literally, POS netbooks have been getting the n270 for years now...)
Hmm, let's see, a 64GB version, apps, and maybe even a phone.
hi
Epic fail on your part Corey - it's an HDMI *input*
