Blackra1n jailbreak now available for iPhone OS 3.1.2, iPod touch 3G

Wow, judging by our tips jar we'd say you're all pretty darn excited about Geohot's Blackra1n jailbreak, which lets you open up iPhone OS 3.1.2 devices including the iPod touch 3G and new iPhone 3GSs -- but you can't unlock yet, so don't get any big ideas about switching carriers. Windows-only at the moment, but with this level of enthusiasm out there we can't imagine a Mac version is far behind.

If I do decide to jailbreak my 3GS will I still be able to use the app store to sync my movies, address book and calendar (I am using a Mac with 10.6)?

Perhaps I should explain why I want to jail break. I would like to be able to tether my phone to use as a modem either through the usb cable or via bluetooth.

All right – I’ve got the 3gs with the newest upgrade, I downloaded the Blackra1n jailbreak … plugged in my phone and it jail broke it with no problem – when I tried to load icy and cydia, icy started up with no problem but anything I try to download gave a error – cydia wouldn’t ever load up, jus kept crashing --- now at this point I was hotter then fish grease cause now ive got 2 freakin icons on my phone and cant do nothing with em – I even tried to do the jailbreak again and the same story – so finally I was about to restore the phone so I can at least get the freakin icons off my phone and itunes gave me the option to restore from my last saved point of which I thought was just going to restore my screen and shit to the last way I had it --- it didn’t remove the icons but when I went to see if cyida worked, it loaded up --- so I guess this shit worked – get my winterboard Jwalles theme and my 5dock --- so thanks I guess --- don’t know yet if this have fucked anything else up but will see

blackra1n is not a carrier unlock. You must always avoid updating your baseband to maintain your unlockability. If you use blackra1n to jailbreak 3.1 or 3.1.2, the steps you take before running blackra1n will prevent the unlock from working on your iPhone for potentially a very long time

Fantastic, the quickest and easiest jailbreak i have ever done.... I noticed half the people on here complain about it not work and then oooh I didnt read that bit !!! I was gonna give up after 5 tries of restoring my iphone 3G 3.1.2

Heres what i did to jail break it!

Put Blackra1n.exe in C:/ Directory Root
Taskmanager and close ItunesHelper module
In iTunes, eject iPhone using the software (keep your iPhone plugged in!!!)
Start blackra1n (i right clicked and "Run in administrator), hit that button to main it ra1n!! - PRESTO!!

It does work... eventually!!

Sooo Holy sheaat!! My first jailbreak!!! Finally!! I feel like a fukin jailbreak expert now after all the hours of research to finally find the perfect jailbreak recipe!!!

So here it is,,, JOsh got it right but I stumbled upon another step and wooopppeeee it worked!!!
I'm running vista ultimate 64 bit, ESET smart security (disabled all antivirus, firewall and even anti spam)
new iphone 3gs that had 3.11 5.11.07 out of the box, Upgraded to 3.12 current att service.
Latest version of itunes.

Ok, JOshs' method:
**disable all anti virus, firewall and even anti spam** (Not sure if that helped, but part of my solution so maybe a key?)
1. Restore your iphone 3g to 3.1.2
2. Close Itunes
3. Turn off your iphone
4. Kill ituneshelper.exe
5. Download blackrain, move it to the root of your C drive.
6. Run blackrain.exe as administrator, nothing else needed !!** I did not put program in winxp compatibility mode**!!
7. Click make it rain
8. Hold down home and power button, as soon as you see the apple logo release the power button, continue to hold the home button.
9. Release home button when you see geohot’s picture.
10. Let it do its thing.

**11.** I had to turn the phone off complete ly by unplugging USB cord. (Note Blackra1n is still running in the background)
**12.** Plug it back in and repeat step 8.
Geohots face came up and it rebooted!!
BoooYaaaa!!! Finally no more itunes restore.


So, can someone please give me some links for the must have apps and what to do's with my paroled phone? I'm gonna give 91 pc suite for iphone a try. Don't care about unlocking. Tethering, 3g unlock and config/functionality apps are of interest. Any help would be appreciated.

got a question: I've got a 3GS running 3.0, jailbroken but not unlocked. I'm in Japan on Softbank. Currently, I can tether. I tether like it's my job. Because my job is boring. I would be really sad if I lost this. Is it possible to tether if I upgrade and jailbreak on 3.1.2?

Yes you can still tether on Jailbroken 3.1.2 but you would have to either purchase (or pirate) the app PDAnet.

a) Updated to 3.1.2
b) Loaded up a fresh install of XP under boot camp.
c) Installed iTunes.
d) Ran Blackra1n.
e) Done!

By far the easiest JB I've used. This was a 3GS that was not pwnd/unlocked/jailbroken in any way before. Runs very smooth and I have noticed no slow down of any kind (mail, sms, safari). Thanks Geohot!

Can I suggest that iPods be referred to with the abbreviation #Gen instead of #G?

When coupled with iPhone 3G vs 3GS... it can get kinda muddy.

I have used all methods possible and yet I still have issues. I have a new 64gig ipod touch 3G. The jailbreak works but when I turn off the ipod and start it back up again it ask's to be plugged into itunes and wants to restore. I can fix this by running the tool again and everything is fine until I have to reboot again and have to repeat process. Does anyone else have this problem? If so how do I fix this. Or is there a better tool for the 3.1.1 software. I CAN downgrade this to the 3.1.1 if needed as I have already done so this morning. I have not however found a tool that works with that software. Any ideas? It would be appreciated.

Hi, I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G running 3.0. How do I restore my hacked applications(PDAnet etc.) after I jailbreak with 3.1.2??? I know I can back up my hacked apps to itune, but i am not sure if i can copy the apps back to my iphone after i jailbreak with 3.1.2. Thanks in advance.

Its interesting everyone has these issues. personally, i left itunes open, i copied it to my desktop off a shared folder on my server, and double clicked it (might need run as admin if you have uac enabled) and it worked perfectly. running windows 7 RTM x64

Hey guys I have a question. I read somewhere that when you do a jailbreak on the iphone 3gs a little file is copied on the phone and its there forever, so if you have a technical issue the company can tell what you did and you don't have any guarantee.

Here is how I got it to work - after having all the problems the people above had....

#1 - set iphone to airplane mode....not sure if this does anything, but some others said to do it.
#2 - plug in iphone and set itunes to not autosync when iphone is connected....I think this is the key. But I also had #1 done at the same time, so who knows.
#3 - moved EXE to the root of c:
#4 - killed all itunes related tasks except for applemobiledevicehelper.exe (kill itunes, ituneshelper, ipodservice, mdnsresponder)
#4 - ran EXE as admin.

After installing Blackra1n go to Cydia on your Iphone.
Go to Manage
Click on Sources
Click Edit
Click Add
Type in cydia.hackulo.us
Hackulo.us will show up. Install
Tap on AppSync for OS3.1
Install
Finished

Now you can download any application from the internet and install it using iTunes
