New Plasma for Me I'm interested in the current panasonic sets. BUT Should I wait for 3D
At the weekend i saw a demo of the panasonic 105 inch (I think) 3D TV at the NEC (UK) the sport they showed was impressive. Not sure about film though the avatar clip they showed didn't blow me away.
I wear glasses as well so wearing the 3D glasses over the top was slightly uncomfortable I guess the future of TV is for people with 20/20 vision.
3D plasmas from Panasonic and compatible (shutter glasses) LCDs from Sony will JUST be coming out in 2010. 3D Blu-ray players might come out in 2010, but more likely, 2011. After that, it's going to be at least a couple of years before there is any sort of sizable library of 3D Blu-ray titles. And it will be a couple of years after THAT before we even hear a hint about broadcast 3D television shows.
Not only that, by the Blu-ray Group hasn't even come to an agreement on what 3D technology should be the standard. And there's no guarantee that what the Blu-ray Group chooses will also be chosen by television broadcasters. Panny and Sony are pushing hard for shutter glasses - and it will probably go that way. But it isn't for sure yet.
My point is that I don't expect there to be a good reason to buy a 3D display until about 5 years from now, 4 at the earliest. And the whole thing might collapse before then if 3D movies start making less money in the theatres and people don't adopt 3D at home.
So if you want a new display now, I'd say go ahead and get a nice, new display. Check back in 4 years to see where 3D is at. You'll probably be ready to buy a new display by then anyway ;)
While its tablet world topping pixel density, Tegra 2 silicon, and fresh to death OS certainly sound awesome, we had to get our grubby mitts on one to see if it's as good as its spec sheet would have us believe.
