Acer fulfills prophecy, overtakes Dell as number two PC maker worldwide (update)
As if on cue, here's some new data research firm Gartner lending credence to Lanci's boasting. Looks like Acer has leapfrogged over Dell for the number two spot in global market share for the third quarter of 2009, from 12.5 to 15.4 percent of the Big Pie Chart™. Meanwhile Dell is just below at 12.8 percent, and HP is sitting happily atop with a 19.9 percent ownership.
Update: Let us adjust our glasses a bit. According to the charts, Acer is number two in worldwide PC sales, not in US as this previously reported. Stateside, the company is sitting at number three at 13.9 percent, behind HP (25.7 percent) and Dell (26.2 percent). Apologies for the confusion, the person responsible for eyesight has been subsequently sacked, the person responsible for the sacking has been sacked, etc.

@creepinshadow, re: "business lounge of an airport"
I generally find that it is exactly the people who do more business travel than necessary and cannot stop working even while traveling that believe themselves to be too important. The vast majority of business travel is an unnecessary waste of resources. In almost all cases, the use of corporate planes is a waste of resources, but when someone's time is valued at millions per year it becomes 'cheaper' to have them travel than to pseudo-delegate and still control everything anyway (because they are so important).
I'm using Aspire One, and I luv it!
go acer go!
Apple is under "Other" because right now its still @ the btm. Your typical household has a PC.
So is there a specific reason for this? Is it the Acer One series? Because I sure as hell don't see a lot of Acers out there other then the One.
At the beginning of the year I predicted that Acer would eventually lead the pack in computer sales worldwide. I think they are going places. This stuff about their computers being cheap comparatively is hardly important. They will be producing cheap computers that are equally as good soon enough. I can only hope their customer service, which I believe is rated fairly low (could be wrong), gets better. I feel like they may never make the big boom that they should... but instead slowly creep their way into the market... like a slow flood. Read my own prophecy here: http://sndtrks.wordpress.com/2009/05/ (the top entry)
The order is a bit wrong on some of it (my prediction of Yahoo buying MySpace - which I think it still will - before MS owns Yahoo - which I predicted before the merger and after they said it wasn't going to happen EVER). ... Plus I don't claim to be a professional. I'm interested in everyone's thoughts though. Email me: oakandstag@gmail.com
NICE!
how has Acer's quality been? I bought an Acer ages ago and was plagued with broken hinges for 3 replacements!
Too bad Acer sucks and people just buy them cause they are cheap! Acer Motherboards = Shit
I was not aware Acer made motherboards.
They dont but they buy the cheapest they can find and they crap out real fast.
Great Monty Python reference
Mind you moose bites can be pretty nasty
YAY ASUS!
Oh wait... you're talking about Acer.
...
Acer sucks.
Congratulations Acer, Now only one more to go!
@Monkey with my junk on his face
Considering most of the websites, magazines, digital photos, and digital art you look at along with most of the movies, cartoons, TV shows, and podcasts you watch are being created or edited on a Mac it's kind of ironic that it actually works out that yes, they really
are made for showing and telling, just not in the same way you wish they were. They're made for creative professionals to show and tell
some of the greatest ideas ever to come out of the human mind and I couldn't or wouldn't want to picture the 21st century without Apple's
great influence in helping to lay the creative ground work for millenniums to come.

You really are high aren't you?
I just fell for an obvious troll didn't I? Damn, you think I would know better by now.
Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-Ekki-PTANG. Zoom-Boing.... A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat ;)
Don't worry Acer. You'll always be No. 1 in my list of crappy computer makers. I've had plenty of classmates with Acer laptops konking out, especially the newer ones made with plastic materials.
I have bought 27 Acer Aspire Ones - for myself, friends, and my shcool. It's no wonder Acer is seeing phenomenal growth....GREAT products that people actually want to use, AND completely hackable....FUN!
On the update: Yes because U.S. Sales are SO MUCH more important that worldwide! We American's are consumer whores... The # 1 reason this country is in the financial mess it is in is because we stopped producing and starting using after WWII.
yeah,
most of the websites, magazines, digital photos, and digital art you look at along with most of the movies, cartoons, TV shows, and podcasts,
and laptop battery is also a very wanderful for people.

Acer, through its ultra-low cost model, has gotten incredible traction in the world-wide consumer markets. Its commitment to producing netbooks and lower-end notebooks allowed it to gain share in a tough sales climate. Some key issues or questions are: 1) Can they sustain this path - at what point will quality issues and lack of innovation slow their growth and 2) Will we see further PC industry consolidation? Will an HP or Dell look to make further acquisitons to obtain market share and drive lower costs from their ODM's? We will see!
