It all started with an
iPhone-borne MMS video of a Kirby plush toy that I tried to send. You see, I don't have a 510 number -- that AT&T mobile number belongs to a friendly gentleman living in Fremont, CA, about 40 miles from where I reside -- but that didn't stop the message from going through the airwaves with his number listed as sender. Confused? Yeah, so are we, and a quick look through various forums say we're not alone. We've contacted AT&T for more information, but in the meantime, let us know if you've noticed any similar problems.

Read - MMS messages I send showing received from different phone number iPhone
This happened to a friend of mine on O2 here in the UK, so it's more then just an AT&T problem. Is this an iPhone problem?
This isn't unique to iPhone users. I was having this exact same problem with my Blackberry Bold (AT&T) just 2 weeks ago. I was having a conversation with somebody via txt messages back and fourth and every message coming from him would have a bizarre phone number attached to it. I googled the number and the area code belonged to AZ, i live in MD......
I have not had this problem yet. I wonder if it is strictly location based.
On a lighter note... We are giving away 10 8GB multi-touch smartphones. All you need to do is enter our sweepstakes at http://www.jmftwinvines.com
Sent a text to my gf, as part of a thread. went to her AND some random other person.
Beyond the MMS foray and not even jailbroken. Some of my sent MMS messages have shown up on some friends' phones with a Seattle number (I'm in Sacramento and have a 916 area code number). Now other friends have called me at my number and have gotten a gentleman up in Seattle!
Telus has a similar problem (with non-iPhone's) up here in Canada. I've received MMS from friends that got sent via another number.
The carrier update wiped out the network name 'AT&T', the phone works but Settings > General > About > Network shows 'Not Available'
I've seen the same issue on O2 UK.
I think this may be another effect of what your pointing out....
WHY CAN'T YOU SAVE the image that someone MMS's you. You can copy it, then put it into an email, then email yourself the pic, then save it....
IPHONE PLEASE MOVE TO VERIZON...... They don't put up with ratards
This has been happening to me, sporadically. Most recently today.

That's how some of my messages appear when I text certain individuals as of late.
Well I'm experiencing the same issues. I'm in upstate NY (Albany) and it seems as though if I exit a 3G area then re-enter (which here the 3G is pretty good) but in certain places I get Edge only, but this is rare; anyways when I reenter and send the mms it always says its coming from a number in (845) area code (which is downstate NY) Kingston, NY.
AT&T admits to the concern, but also admits that they haven't begun to develop any means to address the issues as it appears the msgs are getting re-routed in transit; the part of that I don't understand is how a msg sent 70miles north of kingston is getting crossed with their network usage?
Any help would be great :)
