JVC SP-FT is a drool-inducing, 31mm thin home theater speaker system
We know, life's tough. You want to buy the latest ultraslim HDTV, but find that your home theater speakers will look monstrously bulky sitting alongside it. JVC wouldn't want to cause you such headaches, which is why it's trotted out the above pair of 31mm thin speaker satelittes -- known as the SP-FT1 in black and SP-FT2 in their white garb -- and the AX-FT amplifier squeezed in between them. While you should probably not expect Telos 5000-like output, the amp will deliver 80W of total output over 4 independent channels, and has support for Dolby Digital, DTS and AAC formats. Prices are expected to be around ¥24,000 ($267) for the amp and ¥20,000 ($223) for the speakers when their black iterations hit Japan later this month, with the willowy white option showing up in November.

dear gods in haven!!!!

Yes the gods want you to hang these "victor" signs!
Why the F the damn logo's?? SUperb design, but really F the damn white logo's
Is this a weap-
Lol, I'll stop. =S
31mm is about an inch and a quarter. Which is still pretty thin, but looking at the pic I'd assumed the system was less than a half-inch thick (and much smaller as a result).
Ok
Seems like the only way to make these look right would be to wall mount them, which means wires in the walls. In that case, the depth doesn't make any difference, since only the grill is exposed regardless. I like the style, though.
Sigh*,
No one appreciates sound quality any more.
Yeah, people realized they cannot hear the difference between $200 and $20,000 speakers a while ago.
Unless, ofcourse, they use my ultra premium super A+ grade unobtanium low resistance cables! Only $5000 per foot!
So true.
i agree 100%... the masses are using compressed music files that sound flatter than a pancake. As long as the tracks are free via b.t. they really don't understand what music is about nor the sound quality. BUT - at the same time if the record companies/stores sold cd's at a competitive price point, maybe tower and virgin would still be around.....
I'll stick to passive or non passive reference speakers with a cd player, and i'm content. I do agree once you hit a certain price point one is wasting their money on speaker cable or interconnects. Though once you pass the 200.00 mark, the difference in sound is very very subtle.
I still feel , hmmm...
The width of the speaker enclosure should be less than the depth, and height, atleast 3 feet , to give a Visual Feel and satisfaction of the sound/music I hear.
Next comes the Price and Sound Transparency.
10% THD is pretty bad. I normally ignore an amp if THD is over 0.01%. I know that's not the only indicator of sound quality, but it sure is a quick red flag that the amp won't sound like I expect it to.
Looks like a dish washer.
Sure as heck does! I thought the same thing when I first saw that image.
same here!
Sweet merciful frack, can we ban this d-bag already?
Looks like it time to replace my SoundSpace 5.
I don't know what all the hubbub is about. Monsoon had ribbon technology 10 years ago. with all these "thin" speakers coming out, it must mean that the patent recently expired.
Me either. I've had a pair of flat panel JVC's since, oh, way back then, about the H & the W of these, but shock horror, they are just under 60mm thick. How clumsy? How elegant!
They saved my sanity by being magnificently transporatable from back-blocks to backward country to any posting where any audio was real, not amplified, and sometimes magnificent. But often not, and a welcome retreat could be made to my big ribbons. They which came with elegant removable wooden plinths to hold them upright, or could be hung from ultra-thin wires from rafters for performances, and which could soak up my grossly extravagant (shipping costs-wise) Nakamichi 2 series.
That setup is fading now, and these look like being a great replacement, as my ears are far beyond hearing much above 5K these days.
Why, for the love of sweet baby Jesus can't that just call it what it really is, a 3.1 cm Home Theater speaker system, why all the deception???
Looks is kinda cool !
Reminds me of Bang & Olufsen (much cheaper)
But are the specs up to par ! That is the question !
I see that JVC is back to their old trademark, "Victor"... Sign of the times...retro is in !
Make it wireless and 2 cm thinner and it'll go perfect with my wireless-powered OLED TV.
Where do you plug the iPod in?
Looks exactly like an old (I mean 20+ year-old) pair of B&O wall-hanging speakers that I have and don't use anymore because of their sound quality.
These are thinner, for sure. But I'll bet the sound quality is less-than-great.
I bet they sound as thin as they look.
Damn, those are sexy! I want!
Sound shmound, not for the audiophile . . . just for the style.
I have yet to see a flat speaker that puts out a respectable amount and quality of bass, just doesn't happen.
31mms is like a 16th of an inch!
It is rather like 16th of an inch times 20... ;)
