Sony Ericsson Aino now Remote Playing with European PS3s
We know Sony Ericsson's PS3-lovin' Aino would be hitting European shelves at some point during the month, and now Sony itself has stepped forward to confirm that the handset is on sale. We're hearing that it's selling for £399.99 ($639) sans a contract, and just in case you're wondering why you and your PlayStation 3 should care, the Aino is capable of turning your console on and off, browsing the XMB user interface, accessing DRM-free content on the HDD, shopping for items in the PS3 Store and watching live TV via PlayTV. Hit up the read link for all the nitty-gritty, and be sure to hit your British friend up if you're stuck yearning here in the States.

Because it is just too much work to turn on the tv and pick up a joypad?
or you could do exactly the same with the psp thats collecting dust in the corner...
Neither the PS3 nor the Dualshock fit in my pocket AND work as a phone....
@EM1
Why does that matter? Once you are out of wireless range it can't link up anyway. When I am in the house would rather boot up the machine and watch my content on the TV. I just do not get the point of this functionality.
Ben Heck could make that happen
It would make sense if you could hook both of them up to Hamachi.
@coolblue
you can have endless music collection streaming to your phone over 3g. you dont have to be in the wireless range of your ps3 network to get this working. secondly, you can watch TV on your phone from anywhere. the quality may not be great when watching on 3g but if you turn on wifi and use wifi local to your phone to access your ps3 play tv you have all your TV subscription on your phone.
@rakesh
Well that makes more sense, although I still can't think of many times I would need or even want to do any of those things on my phone.
Well, this is over a theoretically huge distance, and most importantly:
-Watch and record live TV via PlayTV
@ coolblue
it matters to people who like Sony products and are interested in a PMP phone and you own a PS3. It's called cross platform integration.
Like me, I have a Mac Pro and an iPhone. The iPhone didn't originally have the remote app to link up to my iTunes library to use the phone as a remote through my WiFi network. Once the app came out, I found another great use for my PHONE. It's just useless feature if you don't use iTunes or have a WiFi but awesome if you do. Same thing applies here.
The Aino is nice, was in a shopping mall yesterday and popped into a phone shop to have a quick look. It looks to be very similar to the C905 except a little narrower, plus of course a (apparently limited-functionality) touchscreen and all the PS-related bits. I don't think the camera has a cover though so I'd be a little worried about scratching the glass.
The Satio, also just out, is a beast - absolutely huge. Looks nice but I've heard the real-time use doesn't match the impressive spec sheet, and thus it runs a bit slow.
More on topic, as I don't have a PS3 I'm not really interested in the Aino, but then it's not targeted at me. I'd like to see a Zune HD phone with capabilities to link with my 360 and XBLA titles though.
I love my C905...when it works...off to be repaired again for the 5th time in a year tomorrow lol....I always miss it while it's away. I had a play with the Satio the other day in a store as I was going to upgrade to it, but after using it I just don't like it. I'm not an all touch screen fan and no auto rotate for landscape keyboard = FAIL in my books. I think I'm going to wait for the Xperia X2......If only Windows Mobile 7 was out =(
At $639 this has no future here in USA. Agree?
(insert old and tired comments regarding european to us price conversions)
"We're hearing that it's selling for £399.99 ($639) sans a contract"
priced just like almost all phones in the U.S. without a contract.
don't agree
disagree. while I won't portend to know who exactly is going to buy this, people will buy it. $639 is cost prohibitive for many people, but not everyone.
frankly, i'm just happy to see a post out of you that doesn't hype, and re-hype the iPhone. F*ck the iPhone. I own an iPhone and its nowhere close to the end-all of phones.
I think there was a typo, or a currency exchange failure.
It will either be much much more than the $639; and/or it will be cheaper with contract.
They used two currencies to explain two different price points for the same phone. Another quality article from Darren Murph.
@Agent .25i ---> http://www.xe.com/ucc/
This will have no future depending on the day when people finally realize the true cost of a subsidized $70+ plan over 2 years, against a carrier unlocked phone (which can be bent into paying only $39/month) over 2 years.
I've used it. First feature I used was HTML browser.
It seriously blows on comparison to iPhone. Now this coming from a true Sony fanboy due to I own a 52" Sony LCD . Dsc t90 cam a Sony camcorder 30 gb. Ps3. Pspgo. 2 Sony vaio laptops. W blue Ray. Etc. When it cones to smartphones Sony died when iPhone was born on June of 07.
Sony died in America when the iPhone was born on June of 2007
Meanwhile in another relevant area called the rest of the world, the quality of their camera-phones are bar none. Among the first to introduce 8 and 12MP cameras.
In fact, over the past 2 years since Sony "died", they have sold over 220 million phones. They only have to worry about marketshare. Which obviously, SE isn't winning in.
and seriously dude, Opera Mini. So what if it isn't the proprietary browser. I'd rather an alternative than a completely new phone...
1) This is not a smartphone.
2) Use Opera Mini like every other guy does.
N900: It just needs to be said that Samsung phones are actually the ones with the best cameras.
SE phones fail a lot when it comes to connectivity. They insist on their proprietary connectors for headphones and their own memory cards. There are like 3 out of all of their phones which have a 3.5mm jack and microSD.
This is actually my only gripe with SE phones, other than that they're quite good.
It's 399€ in France right now (w/o contract, unlocked)
Pretty expensive for a feature phone if you ask me...
How do the headphones sound with music? What's the call quality like? And how good or bad is the camera? I'd love to know these things. Hopefully we'll have a review soon.
Lots of info here. It's an early prototype though (Taiwanese site. Translation needed): http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/?prod_id=3385&tid=4246971
just fyi, models are already on display for about 2 weeks already in hong kong
Aino? I'm a little scared to ask, but how does one pronounce that?
And what do you say when you have more than one? "My Ainos is stuck again."
"I-no" or "I-kno(w)"
It's pronounced あいの
(Still pissed off that we don't have PlayTV in the US)
Its free on a £25/month contract with orange UK, 18months
I prefer people that don't spam links nobody's going to click.
is it pronounced anal?
I prefer a nice big slice of cherry cheesecake
I prefer a walk on a beach and fine dining.
Dear Microsoft,
You taking notes re: Zune and Xbox? 'Cause you should be.
I just tried it in sony showroom today.
Interface response is as slow as usual, even slower then docomo's 905i series in 2-3 years ago.
Screen resolution is, sorry, 480 x 272 is too low.
I know it is intentionally match with PSP's, but its just low in resolution.
PS3 remote play....well, you can connect PS3, open PSN, download games, but can never play on Anio. marvelous.
The Aino UI is faster than the docomo N-02A from like last year. Turn off the flash menu and wallpaper and it's just fine.
N900 wants me to not have a 3g data plan for $30, r u insane.
I use 3g data from 7:21 am thru 6:11 pm when I get home from work.
So u want me to have a smartphone with no data plan? Insane
y u wanna deprive me if my rights. I'm out n about all day I live in socal. Now if I lived in a basement all day. I would have a wifi nokia. 85000 apps n counting.
I was going to argue with you again, and say you can have just about any nokia phone you want with 3g, including the n900, and everyones point to you has been you can get the 3g for cheaper, or you can choose not to get it at all. oh and you dont have any "rights" to 3g, that doesnt even make sense.
but then I realized this would be easier:
english mothafucka do you speak it!?
I'm actually glad you contested this, so let me tell you why you're hilariously wrong.
"N900 wants me to not have a 3g data plan for $30". Where did that happen? I'll disregard that line of fail.
"..against a carrier unlocked phone (which can be bent into paying only $39/month) over 2 years." Oh hey look! That's what I said. Now let me explain it.
Let's say you have an unlocked phone (lol). And hey, your 3G band can work on T-Mobile/AT&T. Ok, off to a great start. Now. If you go to get an individual plan from T-Mobile starting at $39.95, you can add in web2go for $19.95. And the 3G bands will work with your phone. Lol, so that comes to, what $59.90 a month?
Now where did I say "So u want me to have a smartphone with no data plan?"? Yeah, no where. Tried this trick on an unlocked G1 and I get the data and voice/text plan for cheaper.
So how bout we stop all the cheap shots/old insults. Work on grammar next time =).
I'm a Sony fanboy.
Anyone that buys this is just doing do
due to Sony brand. $640!!!?????
Thats prity expensive for me.. but of late.. im actually looking forward to trying out a new phone.. I bought an iPhone. Was my second ever phone. Thought it was cool and awesum, but I am really sick of seeing it everywhere i go. Just like to be different, and if Sonyericsson comes out with devices like this, i might just switch..
I prefer to break combos
I prefer him to buy SE Aino and dump his iphone
