None too long after its first headshot was posted did Motorola Droid (a.k.a. Sholes) make a covert encore appearance, only showing off this time the startup process. It provides a bit more evidence -- as if we really needed any -- that the phone's bound for Verizon's network, and any Android customizations, at least from the initial glance, are nothing to write home about. It might be running Eclair, but we really can't say from this. One thing's for certain: we'll be looking for a way to turn off that "Droid" voice from speaking every time we power up the phone. Video after the break.
So is that eclair? Cause it certainly looks different than the other android UIs. And its been reported that this is a google experience phone so no moto customizations.
i swear someone in moto is releasing these little teasers to battle the upcoming storm 2 release. i was driving to the att store on my lunch break 2 days ago and called verizon to see if i was out of contract yet and i told them i was going to the att store and he totally stopped me from getting the iphone. if this thing is a bust see you later red, ill take crappy 3g service for an amazing phone.
Depending on how nice this phone actually is, I'll be canceling my AT&T contract to replace my 3GS with the Droid. I went from the original iPhone to the 3GS, and the drop off in quality and battery life was tremendous. Battery lasts barely a day, glass screen is uneven, dust under the screen, and Apple refused to replace it.
@Nathan Tell me about it. I've had 2 3G iPhones and they both ended up with dust under the screen. One had an uneven screen. It's that rubber gasket around the screen. It doesn't seal properly.
If the dust is bad enough and you talk to the right person at the store, they'll replace it.
just send it in telling them the speaker cuts out or the head phone jacks doesnt always work. my roommate hase done that 3 times in the past 2 years. only if you have the apple care plan though

If the phone's ROM structure follows the structure of previous builds (which should) then getting rid of the boot-up sound shouldn't be hard at all. It should be as simple as deleting the .mp3 from system/media
The only thing that bothers me is that the screen kinda flicks to the left desktop before settling in…obviously long after releasing the lock. I dont own an Android phone (yet!!!) so is this common?
Most of Verizon PDA devices are pretty much untouched. Its their main line of "VCast Phones" that have certain things blocked out. I own a BB Curve and I can pretty much do anything that I want when it comes to the phone. Just pay the 30 data plan and ur good to go. Maybe you should broaden your scope a little and take a further look.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Sweet!
Cant wait to see more!

Yup this is definitely confirmed eclair.
Here it is:

Wat the Fudgnuggets?
No Motoblur?
You could probably flash it on there, but then you would lose android 2.0, if im correct.
That's a T-Mo exclusive for a while.
They evidently are running a "reign of fire" skin on top of android.
I almost expected it to say "kill" instead of "droid"
Verizon and Motorola would be getting a few phone calls if that were the case...
Hehe Me too.... Hasta la Vista iPhone ........ You won't be back
The floodgates have slowly begun to open more and more. I can only imagine this phone is less than a month away from launch.
Wow, I can see how this would be extremely embarrassing in the wrong situation
How?
LOL! D-R-O-I-D.
And it sounds a lot like the voice in The Crystal Method's Divided By Night... I wonder if they had anything to do with the startup voice?

0:13 - Ok, HAL 9000 peeking from within a skin lesion was a tad uncomfortable to look at.

it's Motorola meaning that thing going to be lack of functions!
You really don't know anything about Android, do you?
I finally blocked all of Engadgets stupid shockwave ads. Screw you Engadget with your annoying ads! You made it difficult but I showed you! HA!!
HA! Your post sucks.

Can it run Crysis?
Can you leave?

What about with a no-mind?
I hope this phone has android 2.0
I have verizon and can upgrade but I'm waiting for this phone to come out, Hopefully its worth the wait.
Any heard of the rumors that this thing has flash?
I know original rumors were that it was going to run 2.0 but the last rumors from Androidandme say that 2.0 will not be released until Q2 2010 :(
It's going to be the only phone with 2.0 for a few months at least.

So thats how verizon will screw up their phone. They may not put get-it-now / vcast on, just annoying audio clips everywhere.
I knew they couldn't keep from ruining it somehow.
surprised it didn't say RAZR instead
DROID
My hope is someone hacks this opening to turn it into a Daft Punk opening. Change the eye into the DF Helmets... Haarder Better Faster DROID.
One can only dream.
That sound is AWESOME!
Yes! As is the phone(hopefully).
The only thing that bothers me is that the screen kinda flicks to the left desktop before settling in…obviously long after releasing the lock. I dont own an Android phone (yet!!!) so is this common?
Verizon considers the disabling of the droid voice a 'special feature' and as such will charge you an extra $10 a month to have it removed.
It's supposed to be a "Google experience" phone. So by the contract Verizon can't do any of their normal tomfoolery to it.

it loaded pretty fast
Any word on a date yet?
My "guess" is 11/6. But what do I know?
test
Test passed!
would have been 1000% cooler if it said by your command.
