Technocel PowerPak pulls double duty as portable battery and home charger

Technocel Announces the PowerPak – A Portable Battery and Home Charger All-In-One
This Ultimate Universal Charging Solution Combines a Backup Rechargeable Battery Pack with a Rapid Home Charger
SIMI VALLEY, CA – (October 14, 2009) – Technocel, a leading accessory solution provider with over 11,000 products for the wireless market, announces their latest innovation, the Technocel PowerPak™, a portable battery and home charger combined into one unit. This patent pending technology will replace all your chargers with a single universal solution that will safely power your USB devices at home, in the car, at the airport, or anywhere else. If your device is running low on juice, the PowerPak™ built-in battery reserve will refuel it, whether there is a wall outlet available or not. The PowerPak™ will be available starting November 1, 2009 for MSRP of $49.99 on Technocel.com, as well as at a variety of retail locations, including all Sprint stores nationwide, Sprint.com, and 1-800-SPRINT1.
"We are thrilled to provide an all in one charging solution that will power a variety of USB devices at home or on the go" says Rami Rostami, Technocel CEO and Founder. "It also offers our dealers an opportunity to replace all of their home chargers with one unit, which will create better inventory SKU management, as well as less inventory risk. For cell phones, PDA's, MP3 players, reading devices, Bluetooth headsets and more, the PowerPak will give your accessories instant power, anytime, anywhere."
Providing the extra juice when you need it, the PowerPak will recharge your handheld device at the same time as it recharges itself via the wall outlet. If you're a heavy user who constantly runs out of battery in the middle of the conversation, the PowerPak was designed for you, providing up to 3 hours of extra talk time.* For those who are eco conscious, this solution meets Energy Star requirements by drawing very minimal power from the wall outlet when no additional power is needed. The easy to read, LED indicator lights reveal the remaining capacity of the PowerPak battery reserve with the press of a button. Interchangeable tips included in the packaging provide compatibility for 95% of all handheld USB devices. The PowerPak is also compatible with any other USB cable that might have been provided with your wireless device.
*Actual talk time depends on handset, network, location and environment.

It's like people have never heard of Powermonkeys..
I sure haven't.
I want this thing. Such a good idea.
Is that anything like the evil monkey in my closet?
This is a brilliant idea. Give the inventor a medal.
There are many similar devices. Mainly a rechargeable external battery pack. PowerMoney isn't available in the States though is it. Either way you can get similar to PowerMoney in the states. The only difference I see here is that the power plug is built-in to the unit and folds in for travel. The fit and finish also looks nicer then most products. Most of the other options require two cables. One for power to wall and one to device. Eliminating the power cord seems nicer, at least for traveler. Problem is what if the plug is recessed, or there is a wall warn in the other jack, you might have trouble plugging this large item into the same wall outlet.
It's been done before by philips as well. IMHO the philips one is prettier too. I just wish it had a bit higher capacity battery, apart from that it works like a charm.

Totally getting one of these.
Macally has something similar:

I use a "Tekkeon TekCharge Mobile Power and Battery Charger"
Charge any device that can be charged via USB
recharge rechargeables via USB
Can also use alkalines/disposables, if you're going to out of socketland for a while.
can run on either 2 or 4 AAs
22 bucks on amazon.
they have something a lot like this on Thinkgeek.
it charges 2 devices at once, and it's only 20 bucks too.

i really have to recommend it.
Thanks for the tip. I like the idea of two USB ports, although this device does appear to be about twice as big as the PowerPak. It does have the benefit of being available immediately though.
I was completely sold, until I read the thing about three hours...why couldn't they pack a a beefy battery into this guy? Three hours is completely useless to me. If it could charge my phone 1 or 2 complete cycles, I'd be all over this.
doesn't Sprint already offer something like this? It claims that it can FULLY recharge your phone twice before it needs to be recharge. Anyone have any experience with Sprints?

I've actually been using a mobile power pack from TUMI for the last couple of months. It has saved me so many times when it came to my phone dying in weird situations. I usually get 3-5 full charges for my iPhone. The sales lady said that as long as I have the power pack, the tips are free. Even if I get a different phone. It's on the pricy side ($150) but it comes in a nice leather case.

Now I wish I would have waited to buy that Palm Pre extended battery...
