Exclusive two-tone Xbox 360 Play and Charge kit coming to GameStop
We still think those crazy Mad Catz Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 controllers are the coolest around at the moment, but if you're committed to staying first-party this new GameStop-exclusive Play and Charge bundle is right up there -- black carbon fiber with red inserts never did anyone wrong, you know? Pre-orders are up now in all kinds of countries for $70.

ugly
Apple also thought the pictures of me were ugly, so they got deleted.
Why couldn't they have just made it all carbon fiber look? No Red
Yeah all carbon fiber would have been nice, or carbon fiber red. Or at the very least if you're going to splooge on red, make it carbon fiber textured too.
Reminds me of Deadpool...
I still don't why they haven't fixed the useless D-Pad yet? I mean do they seriously believe its good or what? Nearly 95% of 360 owners hate the d-pad and it's probably the only thing holding the 360 controller form being one of the best of all-time.
Why do they keep making new controllers without fixing the problems? They only fixed it for a little while for some soccer bundle but then never kept it up.
Eww
This is pretty ugly..no thanks..
do NOT want
this is pretty fgucking ugly but id expect that at Gamestop
So baller.
want
HAVE YOU NO CLASS, GOOD SIR!?
Finally, something to buy for someone you hate!
I believe you mean something to PRE-ORDER for someone you hate.
Ha! Ha! See what I did there? 'cause it's GameStop and you have to pre-order everythi...oh nevermind
Completely Carbon Fiber would've been nice, can you peel the red off?
Yeah, completely carbon fiber would be a "buy" instead of an "eww" from me.
Weak, Lame.....
They must have used up all their good ideas on Windows 7
Geez they might as well have just covered it in a giant Gamestop logo...
just curious why (in the 360 world) there is a need for a play and charge kit. On the PS3 you just plug in the USB to play connected or just charge.
The wireless 360 controllers out of the box use AA batteries. To get the rechargable goodness you need one of these. It comes with the battery pack and the cord that connects the battery pack to the system.
It's not a standard USB jack like the PS3...it's a proprietary connector.
Or you could just spend $35 on a Duracell 15 minute recharge kit that comes with 4 rechargeable AA batteries.
But then you can't technically "Play and Charge".
I mean you can since you'll have an extra set of batteries charging while you're playing with the first two...but you know what I mean.
Your battery no longer holds a charge? Don't throw away the controller, buy a new battery for a few dollars.
Playing a game and the battery dies? Don't play connected with a wire (especially that 1 foot wire that shipps with the PS3), just put a new battery pack in.
If you are like me and turn off your equipment overnight and therefore don't have a live USB port to charge with? Put two batteries in the recharger and charge overnight.
There are many advantages to a replacable battery pack. You don't even need to use the MS one. All wireless controllers allow you to use AA batteries. Once I forgot to recharge the battery packs, so I used recharagable AA batteries until the packs recharged.
I've got a PS3, and the USB wire for the controllers is not too short. It's much longer than 1 ft, by the way.
The controllers have been used quite a bit for 3 years, and last about a week between charges. It's much better now that the PS3 automatically turns off inactive controllers after 10 minutes. For some reason, they used to just stay on until you turned them off. There used to be studies about how the PS3 controller didn't last very long, and this was a result of that lack of a timer. however, the batteries in these controllers simply last a very long time now.
The idea that I should slap in and out AA cells is not really a bad one. I just think the comparison to the PS3 controllers being non-user replaceable deserves a mention that the PS3 controllers' batteries don't really need replacement anyway. I am glad I can just plug the thing in instead of hunt for freshly charged AAs, and I am glad 360 owners have that choice now (I assume there was a way to do this already, though).
The controllers are one of the best points for discussion when comparing these consoles. I think the 360 has a fantastic controller, but I love the consistent industrial Playstation look. It's given them an interesting icon for decades. I realize that a lot of crazy kids have fun bashing eachother's systems, and I really don't see the harm in that kind of smack talk, but the PS3's controllers have excellent battery characteristics.
@Gimboa
The USB cable I got with my 60GB PS3 bought shortly after release is only about a foot long, but they may have changed it later. It was only good for charging the device, trying to play with it plugged in is useless since you need to sit next to the PS3, which for me is under my TV. I could always buy a new cable, but since I use the PS3 only for BRD and have a remote, I have no need for the controller.
The 360 batteries work the same way - you can plug in the wire and play while it charges (it always worked this way) if the batteries installed have run out. But it is nice to just swap out the battery if you have a charged one available without needing to string a cable.
@Gimboa, Nohone
I aslo have a launch 60GB between the 3 of us how many ps3 controllers have gone 'bad' due to a bad battery? Also the non-user replaceable battery crap is utter BS, it shows how to do so in both the system and contoller manuals.
Gipionocheiyort
It's not proprietary. It's a standard mini-usb cable. It's the same cord that was pretty standard on phones until microusb came out, as well as a lot of mp3 players, bluetooth headsets, basically anything that needed a small usb plug.
Reminds me of the Japanese flag (which may or may not be a coincidence).
It reminds you of a red circle on a white background? Interesting.
To me, it reminds me of Deadpool.
REAL carbon-fiber? It will cost an arm and a leg.
Isn't the radioactive symbol getting a bit lame, isn't it enough already? After all everyone has put one on a modded 360 or a gaming computer with a clear side window that we put together ourselves, right?
I was about to hit you with a "whatchu talkin bout Willis?".. but thankfully I took another look at the picture. Never noticed the symbol.
I tip my hat to you sir.
No way Bro, they're totally rad. I got a sweet tat of one on my bicep.
Well my self built computer has a biohazard symbol on the side but I see your point.
Side note: I originally built it a few years ago but I just keep upgrading the insides.
I hurled.
Wasnt this announced months ago?
Why is it still just as fugly now?
Why can't they just let fan design their own design their controller and let the poll pick their color?
Too bad the quality on Gamestop brand controllers is generally shit.
It is an OEM controller, just with added (throwing up sounds)!
If it were just crimson red or chrome I might buy it, but mother fugly and 70 dollars for a gamestop branded controller is erm fail...
for the person that is having difficulty pulling off hadokens, erm, they are cake... the bigger problem is "tiger uppercut" :D with these things... The arcade joystick is sweet, but someone needs to bring back the clip on arcade attachment for dpads. From nintendo days...
It's the Sarah Jessica Parker of game controllers!
I'll Buy THAT for a Dollar!!
STFU noob, PS3 usb charging IS better, so suck it. And it comes with a 6ft cable not a 1ft on you fanboy. With my 360 I had to a motherflippin $24.99 Nyko kit to play wireless. Truth is M$ rapes on prices
Xbox 360 Controller: *darth vader voice* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
That sure looks like a cheap carbon fiber sticker not real carbon fiber to me.
Sweet. I'm going to play with this gamepad and wear my Ecko Halo shirt!
a controller for Joker's female assistant......Forgot her name sorry
Harley Quinn
Might as well wait till 111009 for modern warfare 2 controller same price.
Dee Dee deee!!!
