Please hammer, don't hurt Samsung's flexible OLED prototype (video)
Surely by now you've seen pictures or videos of flexible OLEDs -- many from Samsung. Did you ever wonder just how durable the things are? The video after the break should answer that question. In it, one of the Hammer Bros. from the Super Mario games, apparently frustrated about Polyphony Digital's endless delays, is attempting to destroy a screen looping a Gran Turismo 5 clip. A traditional LCD shatters like so much porcelain, while the 2.8-inch, 20 micrometer thick OLED display is completely unaffected, even when folded. Impressive, and apparently just the thing to wear when exploring the Mushroom Kingdom.

He is hitting the damn thing with the same force that the LCD couldn't handle. What else do you want - as wiimote thrown at 5 paces??
Looks impressive, but if this thing is attached to my phone thats a differnt story. If I hit that with a hammer I can see the screen staying intact, but the phone...not so much.
So you think that hitting the screen would cause less damage than bending it to the degree he did?
Think about it...
he is clearly NOT hitting the screen -- watch the way the shadow falls on the table; each stroke has a different shadow density... try watching it with the sound off and it becomes obvious.
This has to be probably the sickest thing i've seen. In class once we designed a dual bar like phone where a screen could roll out from one bar attatched to the other I++I so seeing this makes our concept phone more and more possible! the phone looked pretty cool, it might sound kind of lame, but it was for a class and we had fun. lol
damn.... gotta go patent my OLED underwear designs....
AaaaMoleeed ! amolemolemole AMOLEED A-a-a-a-amoled !
the ending is smt like A-a-a-mo-mo-mo-a-a-a-amooled!

I want that room, and those black band sunglasses. . . HOLODECK FTW
great endorsement for a phone. Song is catchy and the video is definitely memorable.
Thats great... now try bending it around a pencil instead of a finger, or creasing it like the average consumer will end up doing. I can't wait to see these things but don't sit back and think they are indestructible.
This sort of thing gets me pretty excited ;-)
I think I just found new roofing material.
I want some just to play with...
Capacitive AMOLED iPod touch (Or similar large screened MP4) with a piezo behind the screen instead of behind plexiglass would be insane.
Bring on the crazy & pointless AMOLED gadgets!!
YOU ARE NOT HITTING HARD ENOUGH!!!!
God Bless it!
I remember reading about OLED technology 2 years ago and drooling over the Optimus Maximus OLED Keyboard that I would never afford.
Why is this tech taking so long to go mainstream!
Give it to me now!
Good for anger releasing! Throw catch hammer it!
man they need to make those invisible suits out of these
He's not even hitting it! try watching it again with the sound off and it becomes obvious .
So let me see you bend your displays then
As soon as they come out with a PCB and electronics that can do the same trick they might have something then..
The hammer part looks faked.
The second one, that is. The sounds seem about a quarter-second slow, and it moves too fluidly to be hitting something.
