Vaio X series thin-and-light reviewed: 'It's really thin! And light!'

In the mood for a thin-and-light, got $1,300 burning a hole in your pocket? Have we got a lappie for you! The kids at T3 have put the new Sony Vaio X through its ever-lovin' paces recently and have been kind enough (and gracious enough) to give us the scoop. In short, there's a lot to love about the thing: thinner than even the MacBook Air (yet packed with an ethernet connection, VGA, and two USB ports) and "super light," this guy offers an "impressive" 11.1-inch display with "excellent color reproduction." On the other hand, while the carbon fiber keeps weight down, it isn't too terribly sturdy -- the entire body "flexing alarmingly under light pressure." And sure, you're paying quite a premium for an Atom CPU, but hey -- maybe you're into that sort of a thing. If so, hit the read link for the rest of the story.

I don't understand why any one would buy this. There are plenty of 11.6 inch atom netbooks out there for a far cheaper price.
But they're not thin and l...they're not thin!!!!
people like me would buy it if it was an i7 for $3000.
i dont understand why netbooks cant be this thin and light. they will sell billions if sold for around $500 with the atom inside.
This isn't exactly the same as your ASUS EEEs or Acer Ones. It has a better and in some cases bigger screen, it has an SSD, it is thinner and lighter, and it looks great! It is also more expensive. So what?
This is clearly a netbook targeted at a demographic which has more money or cares more about style, most likely both. That said, I do not think $1300 is too mindblowingly expensive.
It's REALLY THIN. And it's got a 2GHz atom, which, while not an amazing chip, is a tad better than most netbooks out there. Durrrr you're paying a lot for style, but if you've ever tried to pick out a laptop for your girlfriend, you understand that that's certainly important to certain demographics.
Great, it is thinner than the air but has an Atom CPU. At that price, the air seems like a better deal.
I'm a Sony fanboy.
I won't buy this due to price.
Might as well get apple mac air fir $1150 apple.com.
I do own 17" Sony vaio HD.
$1300 is there anyone rushing to buy this?
Exactly no.

The macbook air starts at $1500.
@ Will
Wrong Dumbass. you can get a macbook air for $1400 at bestbuy. Maybe cheaper somewhere else.

Why try to correct someone when you are wrong?
PS maybe he mean with the student discount?

I like

@erhan & will, I think he meant to say refurbished ie fir. Then it's about $1,150.
@Truth
Your past 128 comments of Apple fanboyisms weren't you, then?
I think you were hoping that when your commented got whited out, it would be hard to see your name.
@ERHAN actually its 1,399.99.....
I tend to like Sony laptops but the Air is a much better deal. Plus you get OS X. The low end Air can be had for $1399 and the high end model for $1699.00
In what way is Macbook Air a better deal?
u dont have to buy a mac if all u want is OSX.
;-)
Believe it or not, there are people around who don't want OS X. :\
What good is 'thin and light' when it's so underpowered and slow.
Reminds me of my Sony P - gorgeous to look at, but way over priced, and barely functional as an actual computer.
Works very well in 'Paperweight Mode' Though - ;-)
If you can't see the point of it, why do you have a Vaio P?
Phil Schiller: Still it is windows :)))
ha, so true. Sony is wayyy overpriced, considering you're still stuck with Windows. If you think macs are expensive, at least you're getting a better os - IMO. Well, actually, in a lot of people's opinion for that matter.
Who the hell is Phil Schiller?
You know Phil Schiller, the guy who plays music for David Letterman.
people complain about macs being expensive, but look at this crap sony is shoveling. Crap CPU, crap build quality, smaller screen than any mac. But at least it's got an ethernet cord! Vomit.
Sony is learning from our friends at Apple. Style over substance. I'll stick with my ugly Lenovo T400 - I can bash it without worrying about it falling apart.
That's a bit of a stretch to say macs lack substance. Apple only updates their lineup once or twice a year (at the very most), whereas you have a constant stream of many manufactuers updating their products throughout the year. It may "appear" as though the macs aren't up to snuff with other OEMs, but the alternative is for Apple to release new specs every month, which isn't going to happen.
wow been awhile since i heard and agreed with a "mac ____ is a better value." i wouldn't pay more than 500 for it, and even thats high considering how weak the atom processor is.
This and the Macbook Air are both crappy deals.
What about that big bump on the bottom. Baby got back!
Wouldn't this just be a netbook for people who have money? I sure as hell rather would rather carry around a sony netbook than a cheap acer or eee pc. Like someone said above, your just pretty much paying for the brand name and looks. It's pretty much how apple does it and their sales are pretty good :)
And the old saying still applies, "A fool and his money are soon parted".
Wow it looks so good!
but the Atom...
and that price...
If it only was around 500 I would buy it.
It needs a nipple real bad.
YES! I would be so happy if all computers had them again.
nipples are played-out garbation. inbuilt optical mouse(like the raon) is what you need
Why would they go through all this trouble and not put a way thinner HDMI connector? You can even buy a $3 adapter to a 15pin they could just through in the box. I would also have a no Ethernet jack and have maybe 3 usb's with at least one on each side. I can't remember the last time I plugged my laptop into a network.
And 256GB SSD is way too big(for me at least). With a low powered thing like this what would you do with all the space? I would rather have a 64GB for lower cost.
how is it compete with the ACER 1810T or 3810T? this is a 2G ATOM CPU rite?
ACER 1810T is much better than this silly VAIO X. Here is a much better review of it:
