We can't confirm this Verizon Infomanager screen at this point, but if true, when the BlackBerry Storm 2 launches on the network, one of the big touted features will be its
MiFi capabilities for sharing 3G internet over WiFi. It'd be smart branding move, sure, but MiFi is also the name Novatel uses for its hardware, so either we're talking here about an application of some sort or it's just internal communications short-hand. Also mentioned here is an October 21st launch, although it's been noted by
Crackberry that the date's apparently been replaced with TBA. Without a doubt, we can confidently say we'll know for sure in the next, oh, 52 hours or so.
[Thanks, Marc-Anthony S.]

If Verizon/BB can salvage the Storm name (not saying it was trashy, just that folks bashed it a lot) they could have a very big success on their hands.
How much are their plans again? $90 for 900 min, what about data? $30
You pay for the service you get (which is vastly superior overall to pretty much all the competitors.)
Storm was an abysmal failure for numerous reasons. Not only to the iPhone (naturally) but even to the G1.
The Storm 2 isn't going to change things.
it would have been more successful if they called it the RIMjob. because you can use it at work.
Living in Madison, Wi i can tell you that Verizon is not the best. I pay half thats right HALF of what I did at Verizon and guess what I get service everywhere. OOO Yeah that company is Sprint. You know whats sad is that even ATT is better then Verizon here.
Could it be a typo for wifi?
My thoughts exactly.
MTF (if you see what I mean).
I don't know what keyboard your using, but in a qwerty one the W key is no where near the M key.
@Catdogburger, I don't know about you, but I sometimes mistakenly type words, which are more comfortable to type for me, but not physically close in terms of the keyboard. I usually call those typos.
eg. "I have _attacked_ it with this email."
Freudian slips are typos now?
Reminds me of failblog

Verizon isn't making much profit on the Mifi hardware itself so it makes sense to offer it as an addon service for phone hardware as well. Some people will continue to want a dedicated device with its own battery and its own 5GB cap. Other people would pay less per month, use their existing 5GB cap, and sacrifice some battery life for the occasional use of it.
"The Mifi is ... EVDO modem which ... turns ... 3G ... into ... Wi-Fi network, enabling you to hook up ... anything ... with a Wi-Fi radio."

Google mifi
I think they meant Storm 2 can work as 3G-to-WiFi internet hotspot.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
They typed it on the orginal storm.
If the storm 2 had been coming to any other carrier but Verizon, I'd be all over it.
I think Verizon just had a brain fart and put MiFi instead of WiFi.
Yeah. The typo got typed on a device.

No, it was trashy. Verizon and RIM basically sold their customers prototype hardware and software in the Storm in a desperate attempt to compete with the iPhone. Anyway, MI-FI capability would be really nice,, really friggin nice. With Verizon coming out with all these 3G phones. a few of which even have decent browsers, it will be interesting to see how their network holds up.
Will they cap it at 5gb a month? If so, why care about this feature? Unless its a typo.
Because you won't have to pay separate for their 3g card which is like $50 a month.

?
I don't mind my Storm. If they can fix the few things I don't like with it, the storm 2 could be awesome.
well if the storm 2 has wifi then of course it is mifi compatible. It can be on the receiving end. So either a typo, or true, but misleading advertising.
So wait....
Verizon 3G ----> MIFI ----> WIFI ----> Storm2
or
Verizon 3G ----> Storm2
I'd want it the other way though... where the Storm2 becomes a MIFI providing up to 5 devices with WIFI... like wireless tethering.
Sup dawg, I heard you like 3g, so we put some 3g in yo 3g so you can download while you DOWNLOAD!
I'm working on a plan to ruin this guys website.
Isn't this just a function that joikuspot can do for free on symbian phones (i only own nokia so i don't know what other OS's it works with).
First!

Are you sure this doesn't mean the display kiosk has a MiFi in it? That way, they could show off the wifi in the storm 2 and the mifi device all at once...
nvm...poor crop left out "focusing on the screen and mifi capability..."
I love how spyphoto this is. Like they didn't have time to copy and paste it, just take a crappy picture hahah
I wonder how the Storm name is going to affect this since it's not really worth much at the moment.
Because providing random people on the internet with a printscreen is worth your job?
Euh... I just hope this time this phone makes more than just a tiny puddle... I know you can do it RIM ! I have great expectations on you !
May everyone associated with your website get aids
F rim.
Wow so a wifiless crippled vzw handset with mifi.
Dee Dee deee!
Another desperate attempt to compete with the standard by which all smartphones are measured.
Did you seriously just do the Mencia thing? Maybe you should go do your homework before your dad starts yelling at you. Again.
You're a moron, the Storm 2 has wifi.
Low ranked everyone who called MiFi a typo WiFi. Google is your friend.
Would be funny if I am mistaken and it IS a typo xD
This is a typo. It was meant to say WiFI.
"Best quality, Best reputation , Best services".

vodafone uk has it up for preorder on the website with full specs :)

As someone before me said you can do this on Symbian phones for a while now with apps like Joikuspot . There is no reason why any other phone on any other platform can't do this with the appropriate software (appart from the mobile opperators forbiding such actions on their networs) , every one of the wifi & 3G equiped smartphones have the capability . On a CDMA network I would not use this service as I would not be able to receive voice calls once the data link is active .
I can already (unofficially) do this with my VZW HTC Touch Pro 2.
forget MiFi. I'm waiting for a MoFo phone
Motorola would be an obvious candidate to make one.... Introducing the Moto Mofo.
