HTC Tilt2 now available on AT&T
Those looking for a slightly more QWERTY-equipped WinMo 6.5 device for AT&T than the HTC Pure need look no further than its stablemate, the Tilt2, now that it's officially available to all comers. The carrier's second model to use Microsoft's latest and greatest cut of Windows Mobile stays pretty true to its Touch Pro2 roots, offering an industrial-strength full duplex speakerphone, 3.2 megapixel cam, WVGA tilt-up display, and of course, that five-row QWERTY keyboard that makes banging out long emails and extended MMS tirades just a little more tolerable. Interest parties should come bearing gifts and plenty of cash, because it'll run $349.99 on contract before a $50 mail-in rebate.

Dammit! It's so expensive and I still need a Zune HD and a new TV tuner thanks to this digital transition. Why can't AT&T just give it to me? I'll be getting into a contract for the 3rd time with them. I ain't goin nowhere, just give me!
First thought into my head:
"Figures its a Zune user that gets into a contract with AT&T 3 times."
..but whether it's valid or not I don't know..
Ouch...
My first thought
"I wonder how many commands the Ubantu user had to execute for that ingenious comment"
Carriers always offer the highiest prize. You can get the tilt2 for $179 at LetsTalk.com and for $149 at amazon. Both require 2yr contract with ATT. Good luck.
Mo
Yawn, ewww, bleah, etc.
No kidding! $350 for a WinDINOSAUR mobile phone?
HTC really cracks me up! LOL
that joke was a stretch at best
WinDINOSAUR?
Oh dear me, the quality of trolling has gone downhill here since I last remember.
...and its about time!
Wow, for once something really is cheaper north of the border, who would of thought.
2NaCl + 2H2SO4 + MnO2 → Na2SO4 + MnSO4 + 2H2O + Cl2 and energy W stored in a capacitance C holding voltage V with charge Q is:W = CV2 / 2 = QV / 2 = Q2 / 2C and thats why I dont like Mayonnaise with mustard
what the crap?
This man is right.
dude, lay off what ever drug u were taking when u wrote this post.....
I could show you the equations behind the Whopper's lack of mustard, but I'll spare you and just say they're close ...derivatives.
@ Suprman
Exactly what i was saying Damn Commies!
$350? Really? Why is Verizon the only carrier offering the TP2 at a reasonable price?
Anyway, I'd love to get this if I could run Android on it. More specifically with the Sense UI. Anybody know if any work is being done to do this?
XDA Dev? or try the new rumoured HTC Dragon
TMo's can be gotten on Amazon for $150, and most of the others can be gotten for $200 somewhere. Unless you've got special circumstances/bargaining power, buying straight from the carrier is for chumps.
yes you can get the Tmo cheaper but the problem is HSDPA wont work between carriers as they run on different frequencies.
this is the same reason why if you bring a european model to the usa you are stuck with 3G only and not the higher data rates.
Wow, so overpriced and with the holidays coming soon, you would be a fool to jump on board at this price point
Slap Android on it and we'll call it a deal.
:)
Slap it yourself, thats the beauty of these htc phones, theyre completely customizable! check out the xda forum and get to flashing.
Well Android may be replacing WinMo everywhere in a few months : http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2009/10/19/sony-ericsson-planning-to-drop-windows-mobile-and-focus-on-android/
Late......Overpriced......thx AT&T
When "tilted" into position, does it not make the screen and keyboard HARDER to see at the same time, not easier?
No, it is in fact easier to read the screen when tilted if the phone is placed on the table.
Interesting, but I rarely (for rarely read never) place my phone on the table to send a message…
I done with my old ATT tilt many of times in meetings.
Since the cost of this phone is a little steep, I've retired my old ATT Tilt for the HTC Pure. The tough keyboard isn't bad at all and very responsive.
try $367 up front... don't forget about the $18 dollar upgrade fee.
Show me a current generation phone (Leo HD2), then I'll take out my wallet.
this IS the current physical keyboard phone
I think ara's point has more to do with the TP2's internals. And while I am a big fan of the TP2, part of me still wishes it had a snapdragon counterpart. For that matter, a 4"+ screen would be pretty sweet too.
I know the day after I actually buy a TP2, HTC will announce the HD2 pro or the TP2 HD or what not.
"I know the day after I actually buy a TP2, HTC will announce the HD2 pro or the TP2 HD or what not."
Yeah, and a year later you'll be able to get it from US carriers :P
letstalk.com you can get it for $179
1) Late? First retail release of wm6.5 in the US, nice! Why all the H8? 2) price? cuz its gsm not cdma, try buying an unlocked tp2 from vzw and take it to sprint. 3) Android? Been running android on the original Tilt/Kaiser since the G1 came out. Will be no problem running it on tilt2. 4) Leo/HD2? Ok with the snap dragon processor I can agree but give me a Leo/HD2 with a keyboard and I'll preorder now.
Wow. The last time I had a Windows Mobile device was back in 2007 ( guess that phone I switched for ). I am sort of missing it and this phone isn't make it any better. The only down side is that this is still windows based and this phone will make me as sick as my 2007 windows mobile.
Why oh why did they put the symbols on their own keys and make the numbers the FN keys? that's just backwards
It's a long-standing ATT thing. And if you use the keyboard for more than just texts and emails, say note taking or novel writing, having the punctuation there might actually be pretty useful. Maybe they're trying to corner the long-commute amateur novelist market.
I've written songs on my TP2 with the standard layout. Things like . and , are on their own keys anyway.
I agree. The Touch Pro 2 already feels too old for ... I mean with things like Samsung Moment, Leo and Dragon on the horizon... TECHNOLOGY IS SO CRUEL !!! :(
Wow, who would ever pay $350 for something that's running WinMo 6.5 - that would have to be when to fools meet, one for offering & the other for accepting..
This might be reasonable if their competitors didn't offer superior plans. Rollover is practically useless and A-list requires the higher priced plans.
My wife wants one of these, but we have several problems with it:
1. Incredibly expensive to buy.
2. Incredibly expensive to run, due to the monthly pricing plan (although still less than iPhone).
3. Reception in my area sucks, so a Microcell would be required (more money, more monthly payments, not available in my area anyway).
4. Underpowered. Today's UI and OS on yesterday's internal hardware.
So it's FAIL all around, basically. Better of with two coffee cans and a really long piece of string.
Don't need the keyboard but the tilt has a larger screen. However, I think I'll hold out till my contract expires and then get that screen that is over 4". I have to put on my reading glasses just to see what my next appointment is on the smaller screens.
Picked this up on Saturday to replace my original Tilt. I love it so far. The keyboard is taking a little time to get used to bc it is laid out slightly different from the Tile, especially the shift and function keys. Other than that, phone is pretty amazing. The screen is as big as the iPhone's and I have a full QWERTY keyboard, and TouchFlo (although a memory hog) is incredibly user-friendly. I especially like the ability to link contacts to Facebook and the ability to view all contact points (i.e., all calls, texts, emails, meetings, etc.) by contact. To be completely honest though, the reason I went with this phone instead of something like, say the iPhone, one word... Slingbox. Not only is my data plan $10 cheaper but I also can use Slingbox over 3G!! I can place the phone on my desk, tilt the screen up, and sit there and watch my DVR from anywhere in the world (world phone too). I have the TV Out cable on order, so I can run PowerPoint Presos straight off of my phone. Marketplace is no where near the App Store, but then again I've found several of the apps that are in the appstore on Marketplace, save for the completely pointless ones like the fart apps (this is a good thing). I also don't have to go through an unlock process to change and tweak things on the phone. I can install any application I want, I can modify my homepage however I want, I can even install a customized ROM if I want. Yeah, the HD2 is going to be pretty sweet, but I figure by the time that actually hits the States, I'll be ready to upgrade this anyways.
Setting aside operating system debates and keyboard vs. no keyboard and so on, that is a pretty phone. I currently have both an iPhone and a Blackberry Bold. Using those phones, I am most grateful for the fact that Apple's entry into the phone business made everyone else step up their game. RIM was pushing out the same charcoal plastic blackberry handsets for ages, and then along comes the new generation of blackberry handsets. There are a lot of nice looking handsets coming out right now, and I have to think that competition was a great motivator. If I wasn't maxed out on phones for a while, I'd give phones like this and the slew of android handsets a second and third look. It's awesome and painful to be a gadget shopper right now.
i whant this phone ! but i live in UK.. when is it in UK!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????/ :S
PLEASE tell me this is why the HTC TP2 stock has disappered from VERIZON.......if they are holding back their TP2 stock so it can be re-released with WinMo 6.5......I will gladly take it.
