Microsoft to restore remaining Sidekick contacts this week, other stuff 'shortly thereafter'
Sidekick users tend to be an active, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants bunch, so it's gotta hurt like the dickens when they don't have access to their schedules and little black books -- but hey, at least it's still recoverable, right? Microsoft has just posted a quick update to keep everyone abreast on the progress of its Sidekick data recovery, and it sounds like they'll be able to have remaining missing contacts back in action this week with the rest of the data -- to-dos, notes, photos, and the like -- following on "shortly thereafter." Anyone who didn't lose information in the debacle should be unaffected by the recovery process, but for those who did, these backup tapes couldn't possibly load into Danger's feisty data center fast enough.

Kudos!!
Wow, I'm pretty sure they just pulled some Jedi Ninja shit.
This would've never happened in the first place with Time Machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /irony = off
The latest windows update has a worse bug. After update you are supposed to reboot -your profile is locked. But if you use remote desktop you're not notified and worse you are logged into a temp account that loses all your stuff at logout. Why windows generates a new account (security risk!) is supposedly because the old one is locked for updates. BUT you are never told about this. Looks like snow kitty stole a play outta microsofts playbook after all. Shame they didn't fix this in their latest 35 critical fixes patch that just went out for Windows7.
That's fascinating, Steve. What does this have to do with the Sidekick issue again?
@steve
Yes its interesting indeed, but youre about oh i dont know 8 days late, and in the wrong post!
And mind linking the source to that claim plz.
You're actually comparing a bug that purges your primary account to one that purges a temporary one? You really are a blind fanboy. But if Apple did take a page from Microsoft then they really went above and beyond to create that guest account super bug.
Its in the MS KB. Along with another hugely pain in the ass SP3 for MS-SQL Server I have to deal with today that requires Remote Registry Service to always be running (yet another security risk). Gotta love the registry, and now, the Remote registry service. Fun.
hated tape recovery.... could take hours to restore some important person's "important" files, only to find he doesn't need them.... :(
If I lose my 'important' pics on my phone, I don't know if I am happier to get it back knowing someone might have browsed through it to restore it.
My friend has a sidekick... Yesterday her phone resent me every single IM from about the last 10 days... Twice.
funni, someone definitely cracked the whip to get things back on track...
or.. microsoft has the onli time machine available to go back through time to get all the data before everything was lost....
I am surprised people are surprised. Microsoft backend! Serves you right for trusting your data to monkeys.
Actually, from what I've read, Danger is not using any Microsoft products for their servers. Its linux/unix that Danger is still using, along with Oracle DB's.
I think it's supposed to be 'zombie data', not a representation of users.
The danger echoverse exists outside Microsoft world. Microsoft is just using the danger folks for r and d.
You mean Sidekick WONT go extinct? Awww...
Dang, this doesn't help me at all. I was in the middle of negotiations with T-Mobile for unlimited supply of churros till the end of my contract :(
i, and many other sidekick users, are still without contacts... this is what, the 3rd week we've been without anything? and now t-mobile decided against giving that $100 dollar gift card, i can definitely say i am going to switch to sprint and get a palm pre. it has the cheapest/most affordable "everything" plan akin to the sidekick unlimited plan.
Truly sorry for anyone who lost data, but it does have the feel that Microsoft is trying to put some time between the data loss and the realisation that much of the lost data is not coming back.
