RIM's BlackBerry watch pictured, possibly called 'inPulse?'
You might recall that RIM was rumored to be following down Sony Ericsson's path of branded Bluetooth watches to accompany its phones, and now, it looks like we might have the first real renderings of the final product before our eyes. This here wrist candy is possibly called the "inPulse" (not to be confused with Verizon's similarly-named prepaid offering), featuring an OLED display, real-time message preview, and presumably some sort of glanceable caller ID to make needlessly pulling your Tour out of its holster a thing of the past. Interestingly, it seems like the watch isn't being developed in-house -- instead, work has been farmed out to some company dedicated to the BlackBerry aftermarket with an official announcement expected "soon." As far as we know, Sony Ericsson's watches -- which arguably look nicer on account of their analog / digital hybrid design -- haven't been hot sellers, but who knows, maybe RIM's got some neat tricks up its sleeve with this one.

fuck that, how am i supposed to open a spreadsheet and view it?
RIM, stop whoring out to the public, stick to your core!
By taking out your phone and then doing it? You don't have to buy this accessory and even if you did, it wouldn't in any way preclude you from actually using your phone for such things. It just makes certain things a little easier.
its all about you. Why are you spreading sheets on a phone?
No, no. The watch just notifies you that you have something to look at on your BlackBerry. Clearly people forget to look all the way down to their belt or pocket -- they need something in-between.
Like a wrist.
Please don't tell me people still wear their phone on their belt
Jeez! Why is Mark's post being down ranked?
I totally agree with you, Mark.
this is not being made by rim, but a dedicated bb accessory company. everyone is attacking rim saying they are wasting their efforts instead of reading the information which is given...
"Interestingly, it seems like the watch isn't being developed in-house -- instead, work has been farmed out to some company dedicated to the BlackBerry aftermarket with an official announcement expected "soon."
written plain as day, perfectly legible to me...
All I read was the title of the post, and it was misleading.
also makes sense for business types or people who have to deal with people alot. You can't always have your phone out when you're doing other face to face things. Having access to all that info/rss/data seems convenient.
This would be great if it allowed you to find your phone when you lose it and little things like that which would make this a great BB accessory. This could turn out to be pretty sweet if it goes to production.
Joking, right?
Yarrghgh, the ugly, it's everywhere.
Lets hope that this doesn't sport Sure Press technology...
THE SCREEN.
IT CLICKS.
Is that supposed to happen, and is it supposed to feel so...right?
I love the TSP report message
yes but how will i fight all the women off with my trusty digital readout watch? it worked for me OH SO WELL in 7th grade under its former identity- "calculator watch".

@Kesey i think you've got me mixed up with pager-watch. But, i'll allow it. the defense may proceed.
@Kesey,
BOOBLESS! ;-)
RIM, no one wants this. Trust me. Watches are so 1980's. Especially really thick, bulky ones.
Actually, I know very few people who actually own watches. Everybody I know just uses their phones.
Phones are much more convenient. They don't catch on your clothes or sweat up your wrist on a warm day.
Bill, I guess it depends on your sense of fashion. While yes, you could check your phone, those of us that do still wear them, do so b/c we like the way they look not to mention the conventience. I get many more compliments on my watches then my phone has ever gotten me. But that tends to be b/c I'm dealing with professionals, as younger siblings of some of my friends are more interested in my phone. For reference, I'm 27, and the type of people that ask me about my phone are either tech geeks or kids in the 12-16 age range.
As for bezel size, I agree this watch is ugly, but big watches are in, and slim watches are the 90s. Look at current offerings from Tag Heur (like the Carrera line), Breitling, Omega ,etc. Or just pick up an edition of GQ and see what's being advertised.
People still wearr watches? wow! 0_o
Watches are to men as all other jewelry is to women. They tell your rivals what your status is. That is why this will fail just like Sony Ericsson's (from an economic standpoint). These devices tell your rivals you are geek/nerd and have never been on a date which is exactly the people who will purchase something like this.
Wait this isn't a KIRF?
Welp, it still qualifies for Crapgadget
i want it, it looks cool.
Patrick Bateman just called, and I quote "just saw the geek beacon - it was anything but thrilling. seriously this whole tawdry business of digital watches cheapens us all." then he muttered something about tracking down those responsible for this abomination.
About that TPS Report....
I'm surely not gonna trade my Breitling Aeromarine Chrono M1 for this thing.
And my next watch (hopefully) will have to be a stainless steel Daytona, not a BB
Wow, I'm so impressed!
I have the Omega Seamaster Chronograph (like the one in all the Pierce - Present Bond movies except with an additional stopwatch feature). I get laid but I don't credit my watch. What does a Breitling pull in for you?
the 1980's called and they want their bezel back.
I've got the geeky SE watch. No one can really tell what it is so I'm not sure it's perceived as geeky. Looks like a diver's watch, and you' find similar panels (to the SE oled one) on Breitling's and what not. It's great when in meetings, when the phone is on silent and the watch vibrates (you won't miss the call), you can send preset answer messages by pushing buttons on the watch, and its great when driving as well, get rss feeds, stock info etc etc).I definitely prefer an analog/digital watch to a purely digital one.
That is obviously a render. Look at the cheesy reflections coming off the chrome and the light on the black bands.
The day I can't muster up the energy to pull my phone out of my pocket to check my messages is the day I call it quits. How lazy can one be?
Cool! It makes me want to sell my Philipe patek and wear this instead.
I dig it- functional and cool-lookin' - and not another copy cat iPhone like the hundreds out there - thank God someone is trying to produce something new and different.
All it needs is a RSS feed of penthouse letters, one steamy word at a time. Stealth watch porn. Fap's up!
Glad to see some Breitling users out there. Sucks that my Breitling Emergency goes through a battery every 2 years though.
For someone that ski/snowboards, this makes sense.
You can check messages or miss call without having to take off your gloves and subsequently the phone out of your snow jacket's inner pocket.
What is a watch?
Looks sweet, but how to do input on that tiny screen? Chicklet keys on the back side knowing RIM.
slide-out keyboard. obviously.
The problem with this phone and the Sony Ericsson version is that they are just accessories. You still have to keep your phone near and dear to you for them to work. So they are basically just really expensive additional screens for those of you who are too lazy to fork your phone from your pocket. Cell phone watches are already out there! And you don't need an additional phone to use them. They take a SIM card like any other phone. And have all the features of a smartphone like camera, texting, emails, mp3, etc.. Take a look at http://www.3gwatches.com ... They have been out there for a while now...
