Virgin America and Google gift flyers with free WiFi for the holidays
While those legacy airlines are scheming to charge you more to fly over the holidays, Virgin America is making it even easier to choose its services over the rest. Announced today, the airline (which should expand to more cities on the double, just so we're clear) has teamed up with Google in order to bring gratis WiFi to all flyers throughout the holiday season. If you'll recall, VA recently made known that every single one of its aircraft was equipped with in-flight internet courtesy of Aircell, and between November 10th, 2009 and January 15th, 2010, your surfing will be on the house should your find yourself in a seat. Not a bad way to spread a little holiday cheer, huh?

What happens when they find out all I'm doing with my free wifi is looking at porn? Is it still Virgin America?
That's the point of porn... and free wifi.
They actually block most porn sites. I know this because... well, just because.
Maybe if they were in Chicago I'd fly them
But then that would mean them having to NOT throw a hissy fit when they don't get their way and actually have to compete for business......because we all know they wouldn't lower themselves by paying the going rate for a gate at o'hare or god forbid flying out of midway.
Maybe if Chicago had not lost the Olympics bid Virgin America would fly there.
Just teasing you.
google always does some cool sh!#
0h $%@P!
carry-on fees for virgin just doubled.
isn't virgin airlines the one that doesn't let certain apple notebook models on board because of the exploding batteries. hahaha.. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Another reason to wish that Virgin America flew to Denver.
I'm sorry Google but this isn't the correct way to make up for giving Cyanogen a C&D.
But I still loves you!
how is this guy still in business?
The fuck?
Are you 12 or something? They say dick on tv. I'm sure it is okay to say shit on Engadget.
Oh bloddy hell, Engadget. Fix your comments already.
My reply was @Atlantian for saying, "google always does some cool sh!#"
It'll be slow with all those travelers using it.
Interesting, this suddenly made them a whole lot more appealing choice for flying. Ticket prices aren't too bad either from what I can see, at least for the holiday season.
I'm quite fond of Virgin America, except once in first class they served these hors d'oeuvres thingies to people and they were all frozen lol.
I don't get your "lol". Why did that make you laugh out loud? Or were you laughing out loud because someone actually let you into first class?
u r ugly...
Sweet. I go to school in LA and I'm going home to NJ for Thanksgiving and the winter break. That's three 6 hour flights right there. Plus, I think the spring semester starts before January 15th meaning I'd get a fourth flight of free WiFi. Now I'll just have to see how my ping fairs on their network while playing a little TF2. Those four six-hour flights just got so much more bearable.
Economy class + free-WiFi goggles = picture above.
Why is it that the only airlines who seem to have a clue about what travelers want are Virgin, Jet Blue, and Southwest? Virgin= internet and TV. Jet Blue= TV and bigger seats. Southwest= cheap and easy. The rest of the airlines- American, United, Delta are fat and lazy companies who are unable to innovate. Maybe that's why they keep almost going bankrupt.
Probably because of international routes. Virgin America would kick the stuffing out of the legacies if they were allowed full integration with Virgin Atlantic. Southwest will be taking more short-range int'l traffic with their new codeshares and JetBlue... I wish they still flew to Nashville.
Virgin America rocks. Snagged a $289 SFOJFK r/t last year -- BEFORE the recession too! Power outlets at each seat (though my 90w ThinkPad power adapter kept tripping the breaker if I tried to use the laptop rather than just let it charge). The touchscreen food ordering thing was cool, even if the other seatback computer functions were... flakey as hell. Running a custom Linux setup of some sort. Clearly needs to have the bugs ironed out.
Just effing great, I fly to NY on Jan 16th!
