Android 1.6 retrofitted onto Samsung Q1 UMPC (video)
Too busy to bother with buying an Android-powered Archos 5? Then you're probably way too busy to bother with this here hack. But just in case you've got a morning you can wipe clean and a few afternoons where you can scoot out early, it's apparently possible to load up an Android 1.6 port onto one's Samsung Q1 UMPC. Kevin at jkOnTheRun did just that over a relaxing weekend, and while he's still struggling to get the touchscreen to act right, most everything else seems to be humming along sans issue. Eager to see if it's something you'd be into? Hop on past the break and mash play -- it's twelve minutes in heaven, ladies.

cant wait
Android is nice on my phone, but looks just plain ugly on a netbook screen. I'd rather use Ubuntu or Windows.
Is it possible for anyone manages to port Android to also get a wallpaper that fits the screen ?
The screen's resolution is much higher than the resolution of the picture. You can set another picture that will fit or stretch out the default pic.
I know the picture is a lower resolution than the screen that was my point :P
As with the Entourage eDGe, the main thin I'd find lacking here is: the Android web browser. I have a Samsung Q1Ultra, with Ubuntu 9.04 on it. It's my "couch tablet" (like the crunchpad). One of the things I love about it is: full versions of things like Google Apps (instead of mobile versions, like the Android web browser gives you).
Give me a real/full web browser (Full Google Apps, Flash, etc.), and a better VNC viewer client, and I'd be pretty happy to test replacing the OS with Android. But, without those things, it wont have what I want/need/use on it now.
So when can we dock our Android phones to a monitor and keyboard to use them in desktop mode?
Can't they at least stretch the wallpaper or find one that fits?
Cool, but way easier and nicer just to stick with windows 7 on my q1ultra! dont have to mess with stuff not working.
I'm sorry but, your comments are worse than those ridiculous spam ads that get posted. At least those don't portend to be seriously aimed at the article. Your game's weak, son!
android is nice an all but Ubuntu works really good on it and you can run Android a pps on Ubuntu if you want so
Truth can't handle the truth.
You can always switch from the mobile version to the "classic" version on the google pages
Android devices are really cool and going to be a big thing very soon. but at this time, it is really not easy to have access to those devices, no matter like the phones, umpc, mid.
During this period, you guys could consider having a look at this cool Babiken Windows XP based MID or UMPC.

It is cool because of its very good touch responsiveness, wifi, great ports, super mobility and more.
