Apple Store down for updates, new iMac and more on the way? Update: part numbers!

Update: Kasper from AppleInsider just hit us up with some last-minute leaked part numbers, which reveal a new iMac with a 21.5-inch display, some new mini configs including a server with two hard drives and no optical drive, new AirPort gear, and yes, a new 60W MacBook power supply. See? Dreams do come true. Oh, and that's apparently just part of the list, so we'll see what else happens when all this stuff actually hits.

Probably not, but like it or not Apple is a big tech company that generates a lot of buzz (both positive and negative), therefore Engadget wouldn't be very good if it didn't make a comment about it!

It's not hating, it's just...why not make a report on it when the Apple store is back up AND there are new products. That would be completely fine. Yet instead we get "Apple store down!!!" and then "update: there appear to be no changes", and because of all that we get all the apple girls with their panties in a bunch, on here complaining that anybody who isn't excited is an Apple hater and so on and so forth.
This happens like once a week, and most of the time there's nothing exciting. If there are new products once the store is back up, yeah I would like to see a report on it/them, but until then, just hold off.

How is Sam's comment considered an act of whining? Yes, he will get ranked down with that. Engadget has to report this. Apple is a tech company. No questions asked. But by no means it can be considered whining.
And it's extremely pathetic that you are keeping score of your recent scandals here in Engadget.
@Jordan, if this is happening like once a week, it might be something to do with your internet connection. I can't say I care either way about Apple, but new products are interesting, and their website is the main place to order it from. The website going down is therefore pretty big news as its usually a precursor to a new product. So if a large tech company, that is currently in the public eye for making pretty decent products (and therefore profits), decides to take down it's entire website, Engadget has no other choice but to comment on it.

In the past I expect that Apple probably did have to bring their online store down to update it but I'm quite sure that they don't have to now and the only reason why they do is because the "Apple Store Is Down" hype that appears. So, yes, I'm in agreement with you - it isn't necessary and being told that it is down before then being told that nothing new has been released makes the report all the more pointless. I am very interested to see the new products but I think I can wait for them to be released before getting excited.
You know how this site works, right? The more clicks, the better. So they're going to report on this as many times as they can (realistically). I'm not in the market for a new computer, but maybe a new (multi-touch) mouse.

Well yes, that is the obvious thing to do, but this is part of Apple's advertising relationship with the tech blogs/media. This is basically a signal to the tech blogs that they need them to prepare for a full day of blogvertising. The fact that it takes almost an hour is just to give enough time for all the "tipsters" to spread the news to as many sites as possible, and to give the bloggers time to get their write-ups, and graphics ready.
Maybe Engadget should host an awards show. They should have an award for the lowest ranked commenter with the lamest ideas and with the constant objective of starting a flame war. Detox will be a serious contender.
Yes they do. Look at all the comments that have been made on this post in such a short time. I'm glad Engadget is giving it's readers a place to talk/debate/whine/guess/praise the upcoming Apple products.
I would expect them to do the same if the Microsoft site went down.
Yes. Knowing that something was rumored for today, I checked my Engadget live bookmark headlines to see if something was happening.

I got my eye on a 2.53 GHz MacMini as a low-energy media server. Coupled with the Elgato EyeTV 250+ and EyeTV 3.2 software, I'll be ready for some serious TV capturing. I sure hope more companies start programming apps with Grand Central Dispatch in mind.
A dual harddrive-mini sounds nice, but I'll stick with the optical drive and use a NAS instead.

You are a tool. You remind me of this guy I sold my old iBook G4 to. At parties I would overhear him shouting "get a mac" at other friends when they complained of virus issues. He is a tool, and we no longer speak to each other. I upgraded his OS to 10.5, he gave me attitude and insisted on being perched on my shoulder watching everything I did while suggesting I didn't know what I was doing. I fixed my other friend's virus issues and made $60, they recommend me to others in need of help.
The moral of this story is that you're a tool and add nothing of value to anything.

I know a guy at work whose girlfriend left him for a guy who just happens to use a Mac. Now I have to hear him rail against Starbucks and Volkswagens and black turtlenecks. I'm like, dude, why take it out on the poor, innocent black turtlenecks? But he doesn't listen. The next day I saw him outside picketing a Banana Republic for selling black turtlenecks. We were in his car last week, going to lunch and apparently his foot "slipped" from the brake, causing his car to slam against the back of a Volkswagen. I turned to him in shock and he's laughing hysterically. I'm like, dude, not every Mac user drives a Volkswagen! But he doesn't listen.
I took him to Starbucks to calm him down and I'm like, dude, you're totally out of control. Have a mocha cappuccino latte venti with a blast of whip cream and you'll feel better. And then it hits him like a ton of bricks. We use PCs at work and I always hide my iPhone for fear of reprisal, but it just dawns on him and he's freaked out because all this time we've worked together he had no inkling that I was a Mac user, until I ordered that cup of joe.
To make a long story short, he's awaiting trial for attempted murder. Sad, truly sad.
