Apple's new MacBook unboxing and hands-on!
We just took delivery of Apple's new MacBook -- it's an interesting revision to the MacBook formula, built using the same unibody techniques as the Aluminum Pros but with white plastic. That means it feels much more solid than the previous plastic MacBooks: there's zero flex when you pick it up by a corner, and the keyboard is nicely rigid. There's a price for that heft, though -- the battery is now sealed in, although we're guessing it won't be too hard to replace if you remove the soft-touch rubber bottom panel. Unlike the Pros, the screen is still set in by a plastic bezel instead of edge-to-edge glass, which means it's a little less glossy overall -- but make no mistake, it can still serve as a mirror in a pinch. Ports are looking pretty dismal -- there's no FireWire, no SD card slot, no dedicated line-in. Instead you get just two USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, and a combo headphone / line-in jack. That's pretty weak in a thousand-dollar machine. We're going to spend some more time playing with this thing before we dish out a proper review, though -- anything you want to know?

I've been looking for an answer for hours but I just can't find it. Would somebody explain to me:
Why would someone get the MBP 13 inch, when the new MB 13 inch is $200 cheaper?
It has the same processor, but bigger hard drive. Just because of FireWire 800 port and SD slot?
The MBP looks way better with its aluminum body, but that's the only real difference to me.
Is the soft-touch rubber bottom panel the same as in the older version of iPod universal docks? (Model A1153) If it does, they tend to get dirty easily =(
ok, for all the clowns saying the screen is glossy, i've never had any problems with glare and i use my macbook pro everywhere from school to my room. no problems, and if you're complaining about its 1000$ pricetag why are you reading this post anyways? go buy some sorry excuse for a laptop with a 45min batterylife and some sketch processor. apple makes quality products that out-do anything else on the market, and if you dont like the operating system at least take a look at what the actual "computer" has to offer (great screen, components and reliability) you make not like osx but the computer itself is amazing. so if you want to stick with your 2 inch thick toshiba with a car battery attached and some "celeron" dual core processor go ahead. mac is where its at.
isnt that a bogey on picture 10?
I hope that they will upgrade the harddisk in the macbook pro! 160gb in a standard.. I dont like that compared to the macbook..
I think most of you agree..
i ordered one about an hour after it went live on the website.
just my justification...
i bought a Gateway notebook and it died after about 1.5 years. I then got an Acer notebook and it does after a little under 2 years.
My friend has an old Mac notebook that he's been using and hasn't had any issues for nearly 6 years.
It's time for me to bite the bullet and get something with a quality build that is going to last me for a good amount of time.
So i decided to finally buy a Mac.
Should have it delivered (free deliver, of course) tomorrow afternoon.
Is it true no IR receiver?
Have the SATA 1.5/3GBps Issues been sorted out, or is it still plagued with the same MBP issues?
How bright is the screen, is it good enough or does it still look washed out and colorless when kept next to an MBP?
Does it ship with Snow Leopard or 10.5.8?
Lastly, Is it worth buying?
Definitely worth the price (finally).
What I don't understand is why they can't keep the same specs and make the whole thing a couple of inches smaller - whola! apple netbook. I mean, I'd say pay a $1000 for it (never though I'd hear myself say that about a netbook......but after the sony x, I guess anything is possible).
ftw
What pussy is on it, Leopard or Snow Leopard?
