unheard? Clearly, you've an ear for those in Europe, as folks in the UK and Ireland will be able to procure a
dark Wii starting on November 6th as part of a limited edition bundle that includes
Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus dongle. The rest of mainland Europe will see the same bundle on November 20th, and as if that wasn't enough, a black Classic Controller Pro and a slew of black Wii accessories will also accompany the package for those looking to stock up. Naturally, there's no mention of a price, but considering that you'll pay anything to join the still-limited black Wii party, it (likely) matters not.

Better off? They are dominating the market with a very inexpensive to make machine that sell at nearly the cost of the competition.
They are better off doing this... adding superficial and nearly free enhancements. There's a reason Sony has been selling PS2s for over a decade. And there's a reason Nintendo has no reason to budge on the wii for ages.
Now, if the wii isn't you thing, then like me, you will not bother purchasing one for yourself. But a new, more costly, more powerful wii would not be the phenomenon to the non-gamers who keep buying wiis.
Damn man, don't say stuff like that! Wii 1.5 ?! We don't need/want a Wii version of the DSi, what we need is Wii 2 (the full next-gen Wii). Statements like that, might make them think we want another low-performance console (that seems like two Gamecubes duck-tapped together), that had a little performance upgrade from the last (I no want four Gamecubes duck-tapped together). Wii has great games, but the underpowered,less-capable, and casual-crowd pushing console is hurting both the games and the hardcore gamers. Nintendo needs to come forward with a next-gen console that's at least as powerful as a 7800GTX or 8800GTX, with WAY better online, and better everything to more backbone into their games. Do this, and no Wii 2 console will collect nothing but dust.
I don't look at products from an investors perspective, I look at a product from a consumers view, and as a consumer this wii is well a peice of junk, yes it makes allot of money for Nintendo but a piece of junk for me the consumer....
So, you'd rather them release something that is 50% less junk? Clearly, you give consumers a bad name and greatly mislead companies...

You know whats really great about this version, it runs the latest firmware, and is not chippable now there is a great reason to own this one right there :P Hu huh huhhh I mean come on whos with me ? Come on Reggie lets tell em how it is :P
You could technically buy it just for the plastic shell, if you're hardcore of a fan enough. You could then switch the guts with your chipped, American Wii then have a black chipped American Wii.

Mine is chipped and all, but isn't chipping obsolete now for the Wii? I hear all this talk of software hacking 3rd party channels and loaders onto the console, so why need the chip?
The Japanese are still sour for losing the war. That is why they keep all the cool stuff for themselves and then ship that said stuff over to the US when it isn't cool in Japan anymore.

Y'know this will be the first time nintendo has EVER done anything for europe before america. I guess they owe us, though, after the wii pricing and Smash bros release date debacles (among other things).
Europe got Zelda: The Minish Cap before the US. Europe got the Tingle RPG, which never has been released in the US (though since it is region-free and in English, it is import-friendly). Though not a Nintendo software title, Europe was the only reciever of Terranigma in English.
I hope you're not too young to remember those.
But generally, yeah you're right. For the Japanese game companies, Europe/Australia are the lowest priority of the big three regions. This is because not only is it a pain in the ass to translate to English (which is all that's required for a US release), a European release requires a few more languages and the conversion to PAL standards.
But WHY did they do it? They don't think Americans want the one that looks 10 times cooler?

Poor Europe, always getting the special editions later then us US customers.... except when it comes to cars.
My theory is that the Wii is selling a bunch that Ninty says " Were makin' money with a white wii, why fix what ain't broken!"
its selling so good that they dont need to import a different color.
Just like my issue with European branches releasing the limited editions of games (Infamous, Uncharted 2, Spirit Tracks, NSMB Wii, etc), here they go, giving Europe a black Wii, even though every gaming press outlet is hounding Reggie on when we're getting one.

Why the heck do people want a Wii HD?! It would basically be the same console, but it would just render games to 720p or 1080p, that's just a waste of resources. That would just delay the release of the true next-gen successor to the Wii (Wii 2 or whatever they'll name it). It would be better for Nintendo to release Wii 2 in the next two years, than extend the life of Wii further than necessary with something like Wii HD (which would basically be Wii 1.5). Like I said in my earlier post, hopefully Nintendo's next console will be at least as powerful as a 7800 GTX or 8800 GTX graphically. Then, it should have Wii backward compatibility and be able to render the games in HD.

the reason why they let it in europe first is because in america we judge our consoles too fast can have way to random survey answers so they cant aim their next consoles well enough

the black does look allot better. but i wouldnt go for a console over colour, i'd go for the games, allot of wii games are kid friendly, and to play them you have to swing your arms every direction.
