T-Mobile's Project Dark: $99.99 unlimited on Even More, $79.99 on Even More Plus?
The details of T-Mobile's mysterious Project Dark definitely seem to be congealing around retooled handset billing and a set of new plans, and it looks like TmoNews might have the first word here on the all-important subject of plan pricing. Even More Plus, which would be contract-free and offer new handset FlexPay over four installments, is apparently tracking for a $79.99 all-you-can-eat package, $69.99 with 1,000 voice minutes, or $49.99 with unlimited voice and no data. Even More meanwhile, which basically amounts to new contract plan branding with traditional hardware subsidies, will come in at $99.99 for unlimited everything (mirroring Sprint's pricing) or $59.99 for unlimited voice alone. It seems strange that the contract pricing is higher than the prepaid, especially since Even More Plus apparently won't offer any hardware subsidies whatsoever, but we're sure we're going to find out how this all shakes out soon enough. Follow the break for another shot of the pricing grids.

@ cormega27
Seriously, $60 for 500min of talk and unlimited everything else is awesome; i'm not a teenage girl with the phone glued to my ear.
I wish there were an option with *less* than 500 minutes. I only use about 100, if even that, in any given month.
not as cheap as my current t-mobile plan
39.99 1000 minutes + free nights and weekends
5.99 unlimited web
4.99 400 text messages
50.97 total
the cheapest plan that I could get would be
59.99 500 min, unlimited texts, unlimited data
12% student advantage discount (might not be applicable to non contract plans)
52.79 total
I guess if I were an unlimited texter it might be worth the switch but I am not and I talk on my cell for work so 500 might not be enough
but this still doesn't come near the sprint SERO plans I still know 2 people with.
Yeah, but your unlimited web is only Edge. It doesn't really matter much to me, but the newer unlimited data plans include 3g. Yours does not.
This is way too confusing to make a big splash. Just based on reading this thread comments, with all the various calculations going around of plans with some phones with text, some with data, some with 400 texts, some with smartphone web, bla bla bla. The average consumer is going to doze off if he/she has to compare T-mobile's price with the other carriers, especially the unsubsidized, no contract plan.
"Here you go ma'am, your very own, contract-free, MyTouch3g for $499.00, plus 7% sales tax, for $533.93! Don't worry ma'am, we'll break that into 4 easy installments for you of $133.48, interest free!!! So for the first 4 months, your bill for the Unlimited Plan will be $79.99, plus your installment of $133.48, plus applicable state and local taxes of around $15.00.. equaling a cozy bill of $228.47 for 4 months!! SWEEEET huh? Then after that you'll pay $95.00 for unlimited everything, but you won't have a contract! I know.. I know.. you can thank me later. Have a greeeaat day!"
color me dissapointed
Hmmm the mnutes may not be enough for the cheapest and may be too much for the most expensive... No contract is great but the pricing breakdown with taxes is going to be murder either way...
T-mo's new family plan is 2 lines with unlimited web/text and 1500 min for $159. Sprint's Everything Data Family - with Any Mobile, Anytime 1500 plan is the EXACT same thing for $129. I'd save $30 a month with Sprint.
Easy choice here. I have been thinking about going to Sprint but held off to see what T-mo was going to do. Time to bail!
Same boat, i even get a discount at sprint with my company but have had and have enjoyed t-mobile for so long I was willing to hold out and see if they could beat their price. Looks like sprint might have earned a new customer, plus I can get a Hero.
These prices are nowhere near the hype the internet created for them. *sigh*
Plain and simple....This is not a Game changer....
I currently pay around $55 net for 700 family minutes for 2 lines....59.00 plan price + AAA discount... OOC for last 2 years, did not like any new phone.
I may be able to move up to 1500 minutes for the same price...doubling my minutes allowance without any data or Texting plans ....I was expecting cheap data plans, but not to be....
@cocoviper
exactly what I meant, I got 5 lines on the unlimited everything data 1500min + 25% work discount and that brings it to about $40 a month each line!!!! you can't beat that!
navigation on each phone, sprint tv, unlimited txt, email, web, unl calls to any cellphone.
not happy with the pricing...I thought this was a GAME CHANGER...I don't understand! This was just another hype game from the Marketing Department! Now we're back to the beginning waiting on another phone carrier to CHANGE THE WORLD!
I have T-Mobile with the Customer Loyalty Plan (AKA the "lets try it on our customers first plan") and I thought it was going to be better :(
THANKS T-MOBILE for taking care of the people! (said in a disappointed but not shocked voice)
Ohh Noooo's!
If the Intarwebs are true switching to the "Even More PLUS" plan makes it IMPOSSIBLE to port your number from T-mobile. (the link below talks about T-mobile NOT getting the N900, and Number Porting)
http://tmotoday.com/blogs/william/10/19/2009/no-n900-t-mobile-heres-n97-mini-your-troubles
I can pay $79 for "EVEN MORE PLUS" and my 10 year old phone number is LOCKED to T-mobile FOREVER or I can keep paying $70 a month for unlimited Talk, Text and T-zones data like I am right now....
So the question becomes is spending $9 a month worth 3g data speeds, and the Inability to ever switch my number to another carrier?
No, it is not.
You can still port your number to other carriers but you can't transfer your number from EM+ to EM.
how about 500 minutes and unlimited SMS/data for $50? I talk *maybe* 200 minutes a month and it's mostly text & data.
they still screw you with the family plans if you have a smart phone. both my wife and i have g1's, than means we have to pay $50 for web access. put the basic voice and text plan on top of that and you're spending $120 a month. that's what we pay now with 250 more minutes, so i guess i don't see how this is of any value.
So, let me see if I understand the math here. At the moment, I have 2 G1s on a family plan. $59 per month for 700 shared minutes, plus $25 per line for 400 texts and unlimited data = $110 monthly, not including taxes/fees.
The new contract family plan costs $79 for 750 minutes and unlimited texts, plus $30 per line for smartphone web = $140 monthly, not including taxes/fees.
The new non-contract family plan costs $69 for 750 minutes and unlimited texts, plus $25 for smartphone web = $120 monthly, not including taxes/fees.
So I'm paying more every month and getting very little more for it? Tell me how this is game changing?
EM+ 750 minutes family plan with unlimited txt/web for $110. It's the same as what you are paying right now but you have more minutes + unlimited messages.
Why has no one pointed out that text messaging is still $10 a month. That's a complete and utter ripoff. Text messaging is a cash cow for the wireless companies, and they don't seem to want to give it up.
You can push 5 Gb of data a month through the network for $25, but a few meg of text messages cost $10? Sheesh.
It seems as though the new pricing scheme is competitive on some but not all combinations of voice, text, data as offered by Sprint for potential new customers. It also seems as though most long-time tmobile people would see little improvement, or even an increased cost vs what they currently have. So why should I stick with t-mobile?Their mediodre handset line-up?Their behind the curve 3g coverage? The only way this will work is if they couple this with a quick roll out of their HSDPA service in the 20 biggest markets in the U.S.
There are interesting combinations, though. If I could do the 500 voice minutes with 25$ unlimited web added ala carte and use Google voice for texting, that might work.
Overall, it seems like this won't stir the pot much.
Would it be so hard for a company to offer me unlimited messaging and data, and a handful of minutes? I DON'T NEED UNLIMITED TALK TIME!!!
That is why there is a 500 minute option.
News flash: some of us use far less than 500 minutes a month.
If Sprint's has good coverage where you live and roam then almost any of their plans would be better than this. Throw in the Everything Plus discount code and it's unbeatable. Google "Russ McGuire EPRP".
We signed up for a family plan that gives us 1600 shared anytime minutes and unlimited everything else (also no cap on 3G/EVDO data, did almost 11gigs last month on the pre with no tethering). That's 800 anytime minutes per line with unlimited mobile to mobile on ANY network.
If you ask nicely, they'd probably throw in Pick 5 (the equivalent of Myfaves) for you to switch.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SH*TTING ME!?
Those prices are a laughable joke, and actually, may finally have me leaving T-Mo for carriers with better phones.
Tmo FAIL! Family Unlimited data with ~700 to 1500 mins plans w/ 2 lines from all major carriers:
Sprint 1500 mins. unlimited m2m (ALL) unlimited data?txt= $130.00
VZW 700 mins. unlimited data?txt= $139.99
ATT 700 mins. unlimited data/txt= $130.00
TMO 750 mins. unlimited data/txt= $139.99
Where is the game changing savings?
I guess the phone will be unlocked because your buying a phone, same as in a shop. Leaving you to go wherever you like long as you keep paying the instalments.
Value wise it may not be the best but i like the idea of not being in contract and going where i like with my phone if i get bored with Tmob. Your paying for the phone one way or another, at least this way your not paying $1000 for a $480 phone like you do with ATT, Rogers ect.
A $20 saving pm without contract is $480 over two years which i guess is ok if your paying $299 upfront + contract somewhere else.
I can get a 1000 minutes free nights and weekends with unlimited web and text for 94.99 already. To me that's pretty much unlimited. I never go over that. And while 4 dollars is nothing for the added unlimitedness. I still don't see it as much of a deal. But I guess they can't just keep undercutting the competition until they themselves go broke. I just wish they would improve their service.
Well, looks like they wont expand coverage it does me no good, sighhh. Tmobile doesn't like new customers!
The text messaging rates from t-mobile are still ridiculous.
I am considering turning text messaging off on my cell phone, and using Google Voice for SMS.
Google Voice sends SMS as email to my Peek.
I refuse to pay for voice and mobile data the same about as the old monthly payment for my car.
Right now, I have the t-mobile loyalty plan and my gf has MetroPCS. She had a Verizon phone she had reflashed. Cell phone pricing is like credit card fees; it scams most people.
My CRICKET is $75 for unlimited
* data
* talk
* long distance
* text & pix
* caller ID, call waiting, 3-way calling & voicemail
and only $60 for the USB modem
No limits on anything. Service is awesome, coverage not quite as large as Sprint, but as large as the others.
Cricket PayGO is even cheaper unlimited if you dont use it every day.
No I don't work for Cricket. I've used them for 4 years. Prior to that I had Sprint/Nextel.
shame cricket has no reception anywhere but like three cities.
for $140 My wife and i get unlimited text, data and plenty of minutes plus hardware subsidies. Under the new scale I would essentially get the same service, minus the hardware subsidies and i'd be paying an extra $20 which i assume is before taxes? Did T-Mobile not use a calculator?
I'm in the same boat as you! They are screwing the loyal customer base here BIG TIME.
this is enough to chase me to another company
This doesn't seem right... I have T-Mo and I pay $70/mo for 1000 minutes, 1000 texts, free nights and weekends, and unlimited data (I have a smartphone). Which is cheaper than the two-year contract plans shown above, if I'm reading this right.
This is ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. I have had tmobile for 7 years, and if this is true i dont think i will be renewing my contract.
You cant charge MORE than you used to! My bill with two INDIVIDUAL lines is $155 with taxes. to get close to what i have now we would be paying OVER twenty dollars more!
Why are they charging more for a contract account? Why would they want to screw over people they are guaranteed to get money from?
Seriously, if this is what is released tomorrow, gloves are off, and me T mobile are gonna battle.
If they are gonna charge $90 for what i already have and pay $75 for than i had might as well switch to ATT, at least i would have better reception and 3G (which is in my hometown, but not where i moved to, so why am i paying $35 a month for it??)
I see a lot of people have a lot of negative comments here about what tmobile is doing but from what I'm noticing its mostly existing customers. For all of you who already have tmobile they have something for you, its called unlimited loyalty! All of you who are disappointed that there is no $50 unlimited everything need to go to boost mobile and you will be back instantly due to their horrible network. The problem here is everyone wants something for nothing, I'm sure all of you would be glad for tmobile to go out of business as long as your phone and services are free. I really think this is something big, everyone complains about a contract but no one wants to pay for a phone. for some time now it has been available to customers to activate without a contract just a matter of paying full price for the phone which noone wants to do. Unfortunately some of you have forgotten that our great nation is a capitalist society, free enterprise thats what enables all of you to have the oppurtunity to be successful that's not afforded to others in different nations. since 99.99 is too much to pay for unlimited services you still have the option of paying 99.99 for unlimited talk only over at verizon and att. many of you are spewing sprint but there is a reason that sprint has been losing customers for some time now. If you're so fond of sprint you should have been with them already, all the talk bout sprint losing customers shouldn't be an issue because they should of had large numbers of new subscribers to unlimited everything months ago which would have eliminated their need to release the anytime anymobile plans. Much love to Tmobile, sprint, verizon and att keep making your money. Personally I'm keeping my myfav plan with 1800 min for 89.99 with the additional lines for 9.99. Find whats best for you and quit complaining. Also phones are priced the way they are for a reason. The G1 is 499.99 because you get a phone, a music player, a camera, portable games, internet and more. If thats a problem there are phones like the 109 that are much less and then you can go by an mp3 player, a camera, a laptop, a psp, calender, calculator, organizer and lug it all around with you and by they way then you can add the 59.99 internet service to your expensies via sprint and once you total it all up I'll bet money you decide on subsidized phone with contract and monthly bill of 99.99. Have a nice day.
I've noticed the same thing as na. It's just existing customers who wanted T-Mobile to offer a extremely cheap rate plans. If T-Mobile were to offer a $50 unlmited voice/txt/data package into their line up, it would not be a "game-changer." It'd put T-Mobile out of business. They'd probably need to double their clients in order to maintain their revenue. Just like how everybody here is looking out for their own financial well being, T-Mobile's doing the same. In my opinion, the even more plus month to month rates has potential to change the entire wireless market. Think about what T-Mobile has done here.
Even More Plus - T-Mobile's trying to transition the wireless industry into a month-to-month type of market like they do in many other countries. This is what's supposed to be "game-changing." Do the math. IN almost every scenario, you'll actually save money by NOT signing a contract. Once you go into Even More Plus, they WONT LET YOU GO BACK to an annual contract. Why do you think? They're trying to kill the 2YR Market.
I think its a very gutsy move by t-mobile but it's the only one they had left. If this fails, expect T-Mobile to get bought out. They've tried every PLAUSIBLE($50 all you can eat.... terrible business move) campaign to get themseleves out of the red and they've failed. Deustch Telekom doesn't wantthe burden of T-Mobile anymore. So they're trying to create a new niche of monthly contracts to people who actually have good credit. Who are they targetting??
Familys whose parents aren't tech savvy - 2 blackberrys or mytouchs for the kids at 1500 unl txt/ unl web - $119.99 + $5 for each extra line. The two parents take their kids old flip phones and buys two $500 smart phones for the kids. This similar plan under an annual contract would be $159 + $10 for each extra line. Thats $50 per month($1200 in 2 year) you save AND you're not tied into a contract. You'd have to pay about $150 for the smartphones even on annual contracts. So your basically save $500. And you have full flexibility to switch plans, switch providers, or cancel your lines.
Single person who wants to get a smartphone. You have save $20 a month. Thats $480 in two years. If you were to get a myTouch at $149.99 for signing a 2 yr deal, you save $130 over the course of the 2 years.
The Monthly rate plans may not seem that great, but T-Mobiles testing the market. There goal is to make a profit. They'll see the trends and I wouldn't be surprise if they offer killer promos on their montly contracts in the future.
It'd be nice to never have to commit to a two year contract again@

I sent that as a tip to Engadget a second ago thinking the new plans were up.. I forgot they already had flex pay plans LOL crap! :x
