Windows 7 launch event with Steve Ballmer (watch now)
We've got our own little sit down with Steve Ballmer coming up later today, but right now he's making things completely official at the Windows 7 launch event in New York City, and you can watch it live after the break.
Update: And that's a wrap. Hit up the link below to get caught up on anything you might have missed courtesy of The Wall Street Journal's liveblog.

Wow...the latest Dell Adamo looked super cool. MBA finally has something to compete with on the thinness factor....
whoa whoa whoa hey.
Was that the Adamo XPS that I just saw?
You are not worthy of using the House pic as your avatar. Please cease and dissist. :)
Was that the Adamo XPS that just flashed in the video at the end?
Yup sure was.
Wish the stream wasn't blocked at work. Is there any alternative streams other then the M$ Silverknight?
I feel stress when I am listening to Balmer and co
not the smoothest relaxed of presentations
but interesting never the less
Losing billions of dollars for your investors is not a failure? What is your definition of failure?
Detox,
Considering that you ARE Jubei, it's ironic that you're poking around with a different name.
That's such a "me too" thing to do.
Without Excel to do all my work for me, I wouldn't be able to read engadget, because I wouldn't have all this time on my hands at work all day.
Thank you Microsoft, you're welcome Engadget.
I think its hilarious that A. People are b*tching about Silverlight....B. They are calling out Engadget and the WSJ for covering the launch (When apple had quite a bit of face time with its (yawn) new iMacs and unibody laptop (double yawn))...and C. Whether you like it or not, Microsoft dominates the world in terms of market share. If you really have a problem with it, by all means switch to open office, dont buy a Zune HD (which actually is a pretty sweet little device) and play your games ONLY on a iPod Touch, while watching lame content with your (*cough*waste of money) Apple TV.
All. Hail. The. Death. Of. Vista!!
Last time I checked Apple was trading at 30+ times earnings. you call that making money for shareholders..orr....completeing distoring what something is worth. MSFT is trading at like 15x, and that is because it is surely going to be pulling in earnings 15 years from now, when we are still using Windows. Would you make the same bet with apple. I'm sure the iphone will be super hot 30 years from now and capable of pulling in earnings like it is now, right? NO.
So, it's okay to lose billions, just as long as you have market share? Wow, then Dell is awesome! Their market cap is 30 billion, and poor Apple only has 34 billion in the bank, but hey, Dell has more market share, YAY! Sucks to be Apple.
at last, Windows 7 is finally official (hopes it will becomes cheap than previous OS! .. hehe)
Why did you click on this article then?
Damnit way to go MS for putting this up in silverlight. Now I can't watch in linux!!!
One moment, please, while the current Silverlight installation status is determined...
Microsoft Silverlight may not be supported on your computer's hardware or operating system.
"Why did you click on this article then?"
Uh, to read about Windows 7 and Steve Ballmer.
You sound as if you're slow, but it went like this. The original poster said something about Steve Baller being a car salesman. The first guy who responded made a link to a Windows 7 article (or so I thought), so I didn't think he was getting the joke, so I gave him the link to Ballmer's car salesman video. Understand now?
@ Darkelfa
Lol I deserve that man:).......
Microsoft a failure? lol. Yeah the red ring loses money, but do you know how much the 360 has helped the gaming industry? Also, the Zune HD is a giant leap forward, and the more recent Office, Server, and Exchange? (not to mention Sharepoint and Project) I agree, you cannot have the Gregory House with that diluted mindset. And consider failures...the iPhone has yet to be drastically revised. Snow Leopard has been nowhere near as solid as people say (refer to engadget article pertaining to deleted user data-pretty rediculously huge issue) They are running out of engenuity so they are dropping the price (FINALLY) of their products...and the iPod touch, really not getting a camera?, but putting one on the nano was a spectacular idea? Oh yeah, and way to go with taking years to bring "innovation" (copy and paste and an FM radio).
Let the Glory of the Lord of OSs Windows 7 begin... :)
Just wanted to share this thought..
Most people in my country only spend around $300-400 on computers (coz its what they can afford) running windows and many of
them turned out all alright and are among best technology professionals in the world right now. Windows may not be a status symbol but its overall reach and influence worldwide is unmatched.Maybe linux can take its place sometime in the future but apple with its locked down high end hardware will remain a niche product with a limited market share unless it makes OSX universally compatible. Apple may reap huge profits selling fewer computers than its rivals but how is that statistic beneficial to you and me i.e the end user?
I use both a Mac and a PC BTW
@Darkelfa
Thanks man.Im happy coz i got a response:)
Yes, because Apple certainly isn't making any money now in it's "niche" market, and I am certain they are just a fad, soon to be off the OS radar in just a few years.
Just because you use both OSes means nothing, so do I & have been for over 15 years. I have heard it all before on how Apple is going to go out of business, or become irrelevant & whatnot. Guess what? Hasn't happened. Isn't going to happen either, sorry to bust your bubble. If Apple went belly up, Windows users would pay the price - where would MS get any ideas from? Your OS would become stagnant.
...and DarkElfa, sorry, but you sound like an idiot with your comments.
Does anyone know why my Amazon pre-order isn't expected to ship till the 26th? Isn't the point of a pre-order (besides getting it at the special price) to have it on the day it releases or immediately thereafter?
I got the same thing. *sigh*
What?
Microsoft has never lost money for it's shareholders... It's ROI may have decreased but it's not negative.
I guess you didn't read my comments. Microsoft is failing with Steve Ballmer as a leader. Doesn't mean they will fail. Doesn't mean they're go bankrupt. After all, IBM failed, but they're still around. They're not the market behemoth they once were, but they're still around.
Compared to Stevenotes, MSFT's events just plain suck.
Hey 2 words about the video itself come to mind.
Bloat & Childspoitation
i'll listen to the statistics, not the mouth of microsoft for how great 7 is. what are you people smoking. adopting windows 7 earlier than six months. I want to see XP vs 7 benchmarks on todays hardware.
ive been using windows 7 for 5 months
its been great, i got all of my friends to use it too. Most of us are still using the 7100, which RUNS GREAT!
silverlight ?? not going to install that for to listen to him ..could have if i was in flash
Whoa that song/laptop montage at the end got me so psyched up.
I wanted to go out and beat up Vista machines or something.
I kinda like Steve Balmer.
me too
it started out a little slow
but i must say overall, it was pretty damn good.
Good job MS!
and finally sony released the windows 7 drivers for the Vaio Z series.
Well presented!
btw I feel sorry for the guys trying to watch at USTREAM
The show is already finish and they still havent even started
I don't know why it bothered me and ther is nothing inaccurate about what she opened with . . and also i, like, many hate the terminology revision that companies use (such as mags calling every writer an editor or mcD calling every position a manager or companies calling workers 'partners' etc) but for some reason when she refered to MS workers as 'employees' and Windows users as 'customers' i got a weird vibe about her. Like she's mentally insulated and kind of hawkish.
I would have called them 'our family in Redmond' rather than our employees and 'our users' rather than 'customers'.
I don't know why it bugged me so much. I guess it really created the impression that she sees the 'workers' and 'customers' as people that have to be manipulated and controlled rather than people she loves and is proud of and who she wants to please.
how the hell did he have like 14 hi def streams on one laptop?
Why is Dr. Phil talking about Windows?
That continuity music is horrendous…
What a creepy, disturbed man....
Leave that poor little girl alone. Really.
Well if MS wanted to switch me over to windows from Linux, there doing a bad job. I can't even watch this video because their "cross platform" silverlight does not play on Ubuntu. Great job in enforcing my feelings against closed source.
Wow, tobyMac? in a Windows launch party?
*Launch party video. He's in the ad at the end... Look him up on Wikipedia to see why i'm surprised. Then again, he was born on the 22nd(as was I)...
*#)(@ SILVERLIGHT...STEAMING *#&@ PILE OF CRAP
