Sony's
PSP Go hasn't had the warmest reception of all time or anything, but does it really deserve all the negative vibes being flung its way? The UMD-less console
leaked way earlier than Sony intended, but after a
proper launch and you inevitably trekking out to
snag one, we're curious to know whether or not you're enjoying things. Would you have kept UMD support? Would you have added more internal memory? Enlarged the screen? Offered it in neon yellow? Be sure to spill your thoughts in comments below, and you'll get a few bonus points if you're coming from the world of an original PSP. Promise!
make it homwbrew friendly!
-2nd analog stick
-A UMD transfer device to get the data to the ssd
- mini USB charging rather than proprietary
- regular compatibility with old PSP devices with an EXT port
- A2DP bluetooth
- touchscreen
If it had all this stuff, I'd gladly hand SONY $300 for it.
make it consumer friendly!
SDHC slot, 32gb choice, and keep UMD
I wouldn't have made it look like a cheesy Nokia phone knockoff design! The whole slide function is terrible! I wouldn't be caught dead or alive for that matter holding one of these! No second analog stick? What were they thinking? No UMD drive or backup device? Sony is trying to rip ppl off! It has less features and is more expensive than the old model, doesn't sound like a good decision to me! So in short, I would bring back UMD, add another analog stick, get rid or the slider function, WAIT a minute! I would tweak the old one a little and call it a day! Sorry Sony, but it's a bust on the new PSP-GO!
Make it an XBP (Xbox Portable), with 802.11n, web browser, duel nubs, 32gb memory, wireless hdmi (to connect to a tv), accelerometer, wireless charging, hd camera/camcorder, and optionally a touch screen (with multitouch of course). Put a sub $300 price tag on that, and I'll snag up 5 in a heartbeat.
@Mjayhunt
You're delusional.
PSPgo is awesome.. besides the price. the cool design and portability of the system make it work. I have 26 of my favorite games on it already without having to drag along all those umd's. priceless ;)
we are asking for a miracle.....sort of
haha other than the analog stick i second everything else Whitecollarcriminal stated
Maybe, but just thinking about it made me jimp.
What whitecolalrcriminal said, though no touchscreen
-double to quadruple the processing power/ram/vram/etc
-fullscreen tv out via the 2000/3000's cables via native rendering not upscaling
-allow the PS3/sixaxis/dualshock link to act as a full controller in remote play/PS1 games, and let you map the unused shoulder buttons/analog stick in PSP games to any other button
-PSN buddy list/trophies
-built in camera
I would make it invisible.
Make the design more like something that actually resembles a Sony product. The PSP Go's design looks like a recycled Mylo
"Make the design more like something that actually resembles a Sony product. The PSP Go's design looks like a recycled Mylo"
Mylo is a Sony product you idiot. Therefore, saying it looks like a Mylo, admits it resembles a Sony product.
Must Go
- Dump the proprietary Sony memory stick. Please. Use SD like everyone else. I don't want to buy new ones for no reason.
- 802.11g
- Mini USB instead of weird prioprietary thing. I can already charge with USB, anyway, with an adapter, so there's no point.
Would Make Me Want It
- Mini hdmi port instead of proprietary sony stuff and bizarre old composite/component cables. 720P output minimum.
- Allow users with a PSP2000 to put UMDs in their system and register online with Sony to move their games over for free.
- Possible software package that can stream the display over wirelss G onto a laptop or other receiver (maybe even a Sony Vaio, though I know that'd be frustrating).
- Consider making it more powerful for a new generation of games. It's already breaking compatibility, so why keep the same standard of games? The processor is puzzlingly slow when other devices are nearing 1Ghz and will soon surpass this unit.
incinerate it
Capacitive Touch Screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Make it not suck in everything it does
turn it into a psp-3000
A Plasma Cannon
I'd like a PSPgo with a 2nd nub, and a side of touch screen, Memstick Pro Duo, not M2. Hold the Mylo please.
Make control and screen bigger
@Daniesto
okay 1st of all you gotta give credit for PSP developers for this new release.
Some caveats we've seen:
1) UMD (optional) peripheral - - Please don't remove it permanently. Traditional PSP users still want that feature to be intact
2) A Snazzy Place to Download Free PSP Games - Let's face it, downloading all your games in PSP GO's official website with a price tag ain't that cool
3) Bigger Memory in the future - a 16GB internal + 16 max memory (external) = 32 . if I Have a game which is amounting to 2 gigs each. I can only install 16 games then? What If I want to store some HD quality movies and music? - - A storage upgrade will be very generous indeed
We have a little review about PSP GO: http://pinoytutorial.com/techtorial/psp-go-a-nightmare-for-psp-users/
So would you still buy the "download-only GO" device or not?
yes you could say that
Give it a 6.00 M33 CFW.
Oh man this. There's never been a worse time to use CFW.
I'd move the start and select buttons above the analog stick and add a second one in that perfect circle that would be there. Also, make it a bit bigger by adding a UMD slot. I'd also add 802.11N wireless capabilities.
Oh God and that atrocious price as well!
I would take Wireless-G even. The dumb thing only has Wireless-B. Slowest wireless downloads....ever.
Wireless B is the reason my original PSP sits in the corner gathering dust. Jesus, how long has N been out now??? That's nothing compared to how old G is!!! Running legacy kills my network, and (fortunately?) my PSP is the only thing I actually use that can't even support G.
Sorry for the rant, this is just something Sony does that really pushes my buttons
I must be missing something with wireless transfer speeds. When you say "download speeds", if you're talking about from the net, how fast is your internet connection? 802.11b is 11 Mbits. Don't know about you, but my download speeds don't max that out. If you're talking about WLAN speeds, then 802.11g/n has some value, but many gigabytes are you transferring to your PSP to notice?
11Mbit is not too speedy for internet either in 2009 paul, where do you live that you think that that's such an unusual speed?
Fix the price. It should be the same as the big PSP.
Other than that, it seems good.
I'm going to ignore all the PSP 2 features that could have been included (touchscreen, dual nubs, etc.), but instead focus on what it NEEDS to have to survive, which is a lower price and a system to allow free downloads of all ready purchased games.
-Bigger screen
-UMDs
-another analog screen
-there's sooooo many things that need to be changed, but those are just a few.
but what your looking for has been out for a few years now... psp 1000, 2000 and 3000.
Duh! They could have kept all that stuff and just redesigned the PSP instead of making it a downgrade.
Stupid.
32GB built in storage, wireless N, and a $200 price-point.
BTW All the folks that are saying" put a UMD drive on it!" are just ridiculous. The purpose of the PSP GO is to reduce the size and to test the digital market system. A UMD is already in a current retail model PSP, if you "need" the UMD, get the 3000.
I will probably buy a GO pretty soon, but a price drop or bundle would be very freaking nice....
"BTW All the folks that are saying" put a UMD drive on it!" are just ridiculous. "
Oh yeah, people wanting to use existing PSP games on their PSP are ridiculous
You idiot.
@ Extinction
He also said "if you "need" the UMD, get the 3000".
If you add UMD and "bigger screen" the Go would be another bulky portable like the original PSPs. The point of the Go is the form-factor, the fact that its small and is around the size of your iPhone or GBA micro.
dual nubs... duh
ModChip slot!
Made it.......
1. A phone
2. A touch screen capacitive screen
3. WVGA res.
4. Add a GPS and Camera.
Jesus Christ, why not throw in a toaster while you're at it?
And a little apple on the back of the device? LOL
oh boy, how wouldn't i...
EXACTLY! even a better question... What WONT you change of Sony's PSP Go?
errr, melvin, you do realize that is essentially what i asked, dont you?
....hey is that kitty on crack?
Abort it?
put an apple logo onit
if it had an apple logo it would have already been pawned
and what, pay $200 more just for the apple name??
Let Me Guess where this is going First "put an apple logo onit" then let's incorporate At&T's horrendous into the device"
You Sir are an Winner
(Insert an ridiculous amount of Sarcasm)
i would make it good.
Yeah, what he said.
Taking away the UMD drive wasn't necessarily a good thing even though it helps to keep the size and weight down. The biggest thing, for me personally is, the price. Eventually it'll drop, yes, but it shouldn't be priced this high from the start. One wonders if this may have been their intention to drive sales for the standard PSP.
i would keep the UMD because not all people want to give their personal information to the web like credit card numbers and names. I really think this game system will be a bust like Nintendo's Virtual Boy.
dude... you can buy points in a gamestop and use those online... no need for credit cards if you dont want to use it... KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Touch Screen.
Yes, that will give ipod a run for it's money. I guess Sony is too smart to make changes to give them $HIt loads of money.
Also this will improve it:
*More responsive web browser
*Download game should cost less than retail
*Price drop
*Put the word "Hackable" on the box.
Release a PSP2 with 2 joysticks. That's it.
-second analog stick
-half decent price
-sell games on memory sticks to satisfy people who need physical products/the used game market.
-removeable battery
The UMD drive. That's about it. Bring it back and I'll buy a Go even at $250.
I love the freaking size of the thing. It's finally portable for christ's sake. But when I can't play any of the games I own what's the goddamn point?
http://www.gamesonsmash.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/psp2thoughts-mar10.jpg
I would have made it look like that.
That's not exactly too portable because of its shape, since it's more of a tablet type design, and would make it very uncomfortable to have in a coat pocket or pants pocket. I would keep the design very similar to what they have it as now, with dual analogs, and a cheaper price of say about $200.
Dude, its a game machine not a cell phone. I'd want to watch movies, surf the net and play games on it. What they made was practically a cell phone without the actual phone. Its too small and too uninteresting.
This is sexy.
If they would've made it look like that, I totally would've upgraded my PSP-1000 and gotten one of these.
get it hacked
hurr durr...
i think the controls is wrongly positioned. it would be a bit hard to handle it especially if you have big hands.
- make it cheaper
- make games cheaper... come on, download games should be cheaper than UMDs
- touch-screen
- make it easier to download games (make it faster!!)
- two analog nubs
- better placement of buttons, so I don't have to stretch my thumb to reach the analog nub... even if PSP's size has to increase a little
Second Analog Stick, and as long as you are not going to be able to compete with the iPhone game market, actually create a system that hardcore gamers can enjoy. Pump up those graphics!
You do know, not one iphone game comes close to PSPs graphics right?
No $4 game could
I'd do a recall and recycle everything and start the idea of a new separate PSP from scratch again.
1) Cut the price by $1000
2) Add a second analog nub
3) MAKE PSN COPIES OF GAMES MANDATORY (now it's just optional for devs to put games out on the PSN in addition to UMD)
4) Add more disc space- 16GB might not be enough over the lifetime of the device.
1) should have been a $100 price cut! *facepalm*
In an ideal world Sony would pay me $750 to get a PSP GO!
I too vote for the $1000 price cut.
make it like the big psp
Camera and adapter to transfer our umds to the psp go.
Lower the price bcs for a lower price, i can buy a nintendo wii.
How about hmm the price ?!
like the photoshoped psp-2 image that was arround before this fuglyness was announced =)
I would of had added a paper that said "$150 Rebate" on the box.
I wouldn't have released it.
By not making it and improving the one currently out, than making the next PSP with two joysticks...(read above).
I bought the unit. It is not totally bad. Great Idea but falls short! People that bought the go and were previous owners of 1000,2000, and 3000, are feeling shortchanged by the lack of being able to put games they already purchased on the go. I am one of those people!!!! the battery isn't that great, the L and R buttons are hard to reach, especially without turning on wi-fi or turning off the unit during game play. I would have at least tested playability of unit before putting it to market. I am not totally unhappy with the Go, but for 249.00 it falls WAY short of the quality products that sony usually puts to market.
How could you not have known ahead of time that the PSPgo wasn't going to play your UMD games given that it... uhh... doesn't have UMD?
I'd move it away from the design cues of the original PSP - you could make it a lot more comfortable than that,
Give me a larger game selection and I will be happy.... Seriously who at Sony thought it was a GOOD idea to release a download only psp and NOT put their best selling titles on the psn!
I wish it had more standard ports. Seriously. Who else wishes they could use their old PSP cables with this?
I do!
Put in software that lets me rip UMD images onto the PSP go.
Make it "Go" away!
I will start out by saying I haven't used one yet but I am a previous owner of a modded slim.
The screen should slide down instead of up. Have have issues with all these sliders devices that go up instead of down because I have nothing for my hands to grab, something I want in a device that I'm going to be holding for extended periods of time
All previous accessories should be compatible
There should be an accessory of an external UMD drive that you can use to copy your existing games to memory
Camera
GPS
drop memory stick micro and use microSD
Touch screen
Accelerometer
Dual nubs of course
Glass screen instead of plastic
Removable battery, specially since older external packs don't work anymore
802.11N for the wifi (not sure if it has or not)
Induction charging
Rumble pack
Emulation
I'm sure if I spent some more time, I could think of more.
WOW what a loaded question!
I owned the original PSP which I pre-ordered and picked up on release day. I enjoyed the device, but I sold it a while back, and then bought the new PSP Go a few days ago. The original device is much larger, heavier, and bulkier by all means. The new PSP Go is just barely larger than my first generation iPhone.
I've put 6GB of my iTunes music library onto the device, and downloaded all the demo games currently on the PSN store. As of current, I have less than 3GB of memory remaining on the internal 16GB memory. I would say 64GB of internal memory would have been better for this system. Regardless of the fact that I can buy an external memory chip with 64GB, the fact that I don't want to have to swap chips or UMDs all the time was the reason I wanted to get the PSP Go in the first place.
Though, the lack of games on the PSN store for the PSP Go is what bothers me. Along side the fact that the PSN store won't let me attach either of my credit cards to the account no matter how many times I correctly enter my info in properly. The person I spoke to at SCEA told me to go to a local store and get a PSN card to put money into my account instead, because they didn't have the ability to get the credit cards entered into the their system over the phone. I want to purchase Wipeout Pulse, but I don't want to purchase 2 $20 PSN cards or 1 $50 PSN card to get a $22 game.
Since I haven't been to the store yet to get a PSN card, I still do not have anything other than demo games on my PSP Go along side the music I have.
I'm also not finding the PSN store PSP library to be very full of games, I'm actually finding that it's lacking in what I'm hoping or expecting to find.
The screen size of the device doesn't bother me a bit. I am used to the size since I've been playing a lot of games on my iPhone beforehand. I intended to use it to play games and watch movies when I travel back and forth from Florida to Asia every few months so I don't wear down the battery on my iPhone so fast while traveling. Though if I don't find a decent amount of games to fill my time when I'm not sleeping on the plane, then I doubt I'll even bring it with.
