T-Mobile officially unveils $99 Even More, $79 Even More Plus plans and equipment installment option
Right on schedule with the whispers, T-Mobile lifted the veil off of its new price plan tier structure, Even More and Even More Plus, and from the looks of it all those leaks were pretty much spot-on. The traditional Even More plan is a two-year commitment and discounted phone, with unlimited individual prices starting at $59 per month and going up to $99 if you want unlimited messaging and text, too. Even More Plus scrapes the device discount but offers unlimited individual prices at $49 for voice / $79 for everything. It looks like the only major differentiator is the subsidized handset, but here's where the numbers don't add up: even with the steep $350 discount on myTouch 3G, factoring in that $20 premium would pay for the phone during the 18th month, leaving six months and $120 of extra payments left that have no obvious justification to us. Additionally the FlexPay / equipment installment plan is now available, letting you break up the cost of your phone into interest-free monthly bills. It seems Even More's subsidized phones are offered over four installments (e.g. $37 per month for the $150 MyTouch 3G) while Even More Plus' is two installments (e.g. $25 per month for the same device at the $500 full price). Our initial takeaway from the price tiers is that T-Mobile is doing what it can to drive its consumers away from the traditional and over to the non-traditional (for US, at least) Even More Plus plan, but hey, we're not gonna argue over a beneficial contract-free plan, even if monthly phone payments keep us paying the company for at least 20 months. So T-Mo, any other Project Dark surprises in the cards? Inquiring minds want to know.

T-Mobile SUCKS!!!! Where is that $50-60 unlimited EVERYTHING plan. $99?! Give me a break! How is this a deal? Why would I give up my iphone for a crap T-Mobile UNSUBSIDED $700 phone with their crappy 3g coverage?! I might as well go with Sprint. T-Mobile phones are garbage too. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is the only phone I'd get and that's $350 subsidized, so probably about $100,000 unsubsidized. T-MOBILE YOU ARE A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!! I was going to get the new blackberry on T-Mobile but not anymore. T-Mobile is actually making ATT look good.
Yeah compared to the new sprint Anytime Mobile plans I don't think this is special at all. Top that with T-Mobile's crappy line of phones that resemble children's toys and this is a huge fail. Fanboys commence to downrank me.
Yeah, they actually just raised the rates. The base plan with a my touch went from $70 a month to $80. Tmobile=fail.
It won't be so crappy once the HTC Leo and N900 start making all other handsets cry!
LOL!! All those rumors about the N900 and the Leo coming to T-Mobile will prove to be as false as the rumors about the$50 unlimited plan. The same people that created all those fake banners with the unlimited $50, were the same ones that created the HD2 coming to T-Mobile ones.
I am somehow disappointed, but it is my own fault by getting my expectations high from rumors - rumors are just rumors.
This is not going to but T-Mobile in spot #3 - not at all. I am not a cry-baby, as so far T-Mo had been reliable, but lately I am getting lot of EDGE instead of 3G and spending hours with Customer Service. And my area is supposed to be solid green...
they must've read engadget's article and bitched out.........
Not really, If you're just looking for unlimited voice, T mobile is the way to go, for $59.99 you can't go wrong, Heck Verizon charges me $100 + $15 tax every month for the same service. Sprint got good plans but they still want $99 for real unlimited voice, sure they give you a bunch of other stuff too, but how about if you just want unlimited voice.
Wow, so much anger. Don't have an iStroke, man.
I don't get how this is low ranked - it's pretty steamed up, sure but makes a valid point.
Rating whores - go ahead and lowrank me. OORAH
I don't know, I think T-Mobile has Sprint edged out on price, but Sprint still has the huge advantage of being able to roam on Verizon's network.
Too bad I'm switching from my iPhone on AT&T to the Motorola Droid on Verizon. These are some nice prices though.
I'm actually leaving my iPhone too, but for the Blackberry Tour on Sprint. I was waiting to see if T-Mobile could actually offer a good deal, but Sprint's Everything Plus 500 mins/7pm nights at $59 is still king.
Wow. You guys are getting ripped off. T-Mobile UK has 800 minutes (~1600 US minutes), unlimited texts & 500 MB internet for £20/month ($33). Why would you pay three times as much for something marginally better.
"Wow. You guys are getting ripped off. T-Mobile UK has 800 minutes (~1600 US minutes), unlimited texts & 500 MB internet for £20/month ($33). Why would you pay three times as much for something marginally better."
So your suggestion for saving money would be to move to the UK? Let me spell this out to you clearly. The population density in the UK is 8 times that of the United States. It is not hard to understand why cell "AREA" coverage is more expensive on a per customer basis. I think why this comes up so much is because almost everything else in the UK costs more, so you want to stick it to the yanks. So, let me establish cause and effect. Things almost universally cost more in the UK because of 1.)it is an island 2.)it taxes at 38% of GDP vs 28% in the US and 3.)the population density in the UK is 8x greater than the US therefore land is more scarce. Telecommunications is a rare exception to this generalization because of reason #3.
"T-Mobile UK has 800 minutes (~1600 US minutes)"
I'm sure the conversion makes sense and that I'm just not getting it. How is this correct?
is big ben lagging behind again?
Yes, the population density is greater in the UK, and pirces are lower.
But if population density makes such a difference why are the prices even lower than in UK in Finland and Sveden where population density is even lower than in the US?
There's no better coverage of landarea in US if you were thinking that would make difference.
http://www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin/ni_map.pl?cc=fi&net=te
Only some national parks in norther Finland dont have full coverage, more than 95% area has full gsm coverage.
The 800->1600 Us minutes conversion is about the way billing goes. You don't pay anything from incoming calls in europe as in US you pay for in and outgoing calls.
(The exception to the rule 'caller pays all': if the receiver is in a foreign country (not same country as his service provider) the caller pays the normal rate and the receiver pays for the extra international charges. This way the caller knows what the call is going to cost.)
The FlexPay option should come in handy if/when the HD2 shows up. Unless, however, the jack UP the price like they are on that myTouch 3G. If they do that, it'll be like I'm still getting shafted by ATT.
Yeah we do get ripped off in the U.S. Ripped off by healthcare and Mobile phone services. This is a step in the right direction and the competition is heating up. If enough people leave the other 3 then we will see some lower prices.
Hey Obama, where's my public option for wireless service?! Growing the government solves everything!
what happened to the N900?
N900 is most probably going to be released in November 2nd week. Newegg website says Nov. 14th, but there is not exact date announced by Nokia.
Regarding T-mobile, it is still not known when Tmobile will start carrying officially. They may start anytime. I strongly believe, Tmobile US will carry N900 considering their UK counterpart having close relationship with Nokia in europe.
Nah, the N900 IS NOT coming to T-Mobile US. Don't believe those rumors. Look the rumor of the $50 unlimited was truly false.
T-Mobile UK has had the N5800 Express Music, the N96 and the N97 for a long time now and T-Mobile USA has never had any of those phones - not even the N95. Sure, the N900 may hit Europe through many carriers, but on the US, I think we are left to buying it unlocked and then bring it to whatever carrier supports the phone.
T-Mobile would be extremely wise to sell the N900 unlocked under the 0% interest installment plan. A $60 500-min "unlimited web/txt" plan + the N900 = Joy.
I hope this catches on with other carriers. I hate the mystery of the subsidized plan.
Same. Up 'til now, everyone had to pay the same amount regardless of how they got their phone, so buying an unsubsidized, unlocked phone was usually of no benefit to the consumer. It only benefited the carriers who would have a lock for 2 years at a time, and manufacturers who could essentially charge whatever they wanted for a phone and have the carrier hide the cost from the consumer. If manufacturers had to compete on price all this time, the iPhone would likely not have been as much of a game changer as it was since manufacturers would have been pressured to innovate all along. Heck, the iPhone would probably even cost about the same as the iPod touch.
Hmmm...that kinda makes me want to drop the hero and go grab a myTouch....Naw! What am I thinking? Maybe if they'd announced a certain Nokia Maemo 5 handset today too...
I don't understand. Why would you need to wait for TMO to announce the Nokia N900? It's coming out in November on TMOs spectrum, just buy it unlocked.
I mean, if you want to buy it from tmobile, then that's fine - but you're monthly bills are going to be higher (even more plan vs even more +) and you still will be paying for the n900 (monthly installment plan)
This is exactly why everyone is hating on this new plan structure. People in the U.S. are simply too stupid. They don't realize they are still paying for the phone when they paying these ridiculously high monthly payments (Verizon and At&t). It really boggles my mind, but at the same time it explains very nicely why so many people are in the dumps because of an economic slow down.
I really hope T-Mobile let's me switch my G1 from my current 1000 minutes plan to the new unlmited minutes+texts+web. I wonder if the +web will work with the G1, or will I still have to buy separate 3G service for it?
you still have to pay $25 a month for web on the g1 as it is a smartphone.
these prices are bullcrap and the premium of adding text to a voice plan are just insane
If you get the any minutes + text + web, then you don't need to pay extra for the smartphone data plan. If you get just minutes or minutes + text, you have to get the $25 smartphone data plan.
if you get the "even more" plan you still have to pay for the required smartphone web/text fee, which is now $30 with limited text and $40 with unlimited text.
with the "even more plus" it's all included in the price, but you have to pay the un-subsidized cost for the phone, so with an expensive phone like the g1 it's really a wash between the two plans over two years.
this is all based on family plans with the base number of minutes as that's what i'm interested in.
hardly game changing in my mind
@Carlos,
The family plan is an even worse deal if you want more than two smart phones. The add-on lines come in at $5 each -- not a bad deal. But if you want smartphones you have to pay $25 additional for each new line.
So for T-Mobile - four smart phones on plus plan =
$119 + 30 + 30 = $179 per month
4*399 = $1596 upfront
Minutes=1500 ---> You might get an extra 400 minutes with the two additional phones (200 each), but its not clear.
For Sprint - four smart phones
$169.97 per month
$1119.96 - 400 mail-in rebates = $719.96
Minutes=1500 plus nights/weekends at 7pm and Free calling to any mobile on any network.
exactly. my wife and i each have a g1, so these "groundbreaking" plans do not equate to any kind of savings for us if we were to change plans. it's too bad as i was hoping for the unlimited everything for around $60 a month.
Radio Shack picks up his lame duck but still ducks Verizon.
More good planning from Fort Worth.
Oh, I mean "The Shack".
(masturbatory gestures)
$99 for unlimited + unlimited messaging and text? I don't understand the difference between messaging and text. Sprint offers unlimited everything including internet for $99. That is a better deal. Even if the tmobile does include internet in the $99 plan their service is shit. They should've rolled out the 21Mb and then dropped the price bomb. I can't place faith in what could be. Need to offer a product first then I'll pay for it - not the other way around.
Can you read? Like at all? $99 includes Talk + Text (messaging) + Smartphone data
I can read. You clearly cannot. "...with unlimited individual prices starting at $59 per month and going up to $99 if you want unlimited messaging and text". Right from Ross Miller's post.
@babbaganush
The problem here is that Ross Miller can't read. It's $99 for Unlimited Everything with a subsidized phone. It's $79 for Unlimited Everything with a non-subsidized phone.
The reason that the contract prices are higher is because they're locked in for the length of the contract. Sure, Even More Plus may be cheaper now, but they can jack up that price any time they want.
It's about time!!! Finally an honest plan without mystery subsidies and other BS like AT&T pulls with Apple to justify a $700 selling price for a phone that can never be unlocked and allowing Apple to charge $999 for an unlocked 32GB iPhone 3GS.
Those days NEED to end.
What's the mystery? I was happy to pay $199 for a 3G when it first came out, and I unlocked it (thanks to the awesome dev team) in about half an hour, for free. What's the problem? I'm not saying the iPhone is the end all of phones by any means, and AT&T is nothing to write home about, but I've never had a problem with the phone or the service, and after taxes and fees every month I still pay less than $90. Not bad at all IMO
this is a joke tmobile is charging verizon prices when they have such a small network. it would make sense paying those prices for verizon because there network is big and fast but not for tmobile. these plans are to expensive i no longer see myself staying with tmobile if im going to pay over $80 a month i rather go to sprint or verizon at least there i'll actually get fast data speeds.
I don't disagree that VZW has a much larger and more reliable network... but I think for most people "larger" is irrelevant. Example: I live in Jersey City and work in Midtown Manhattan. My T-Mo coverage is perfect here... so, why do I care if T-Mo's coverage sucks in Florida, or Kansas, or anywhere else? It works where I am - that's all that matters.
So, all this talk about "Why would someone go with T-Mo when Verizon's network is so much bigger... " just doesn't make a lot of sense to most people. Sure, some people travel a lot, but I think a lot more people don't.
I'm currently paying
Family Plan
$69.99 My Faves 400
$19.99 Unlimited SMS
$24.99 Unlimited Web (one line)
Total: $114.97
My best option:
Even More Plus for Families +TXT +Web (both Lines would be covered)
109.99
I save 4.98 but get data on our second line.
If you need more than 2 lines it might be better for you to go with the Sprint ERPP (http://mcguireslaw.com/russ-mcguire/ look on the right side where it says sprint offer) because data is automatically included on extra lines for family plans without an additional data cost. It'll vary by where you live of course, but in a lot of places you will get Sprint 3G where you won't get Tmobile 3G at the moment. Plus with Sprint you get the lower price and a subsidized phone cost rather than paying full price for the phone.
to switch over to the even more plus plan you have to pay a one time fee of $35 per line. I was going to switch over but i would only be saving $5 a month so spending a one time fee of $70 did not really make it worth it.
For those of use shopping for smart phones (like the android phones, etc.), I still don't get it. $69 a month a sprint lets you have unlimited internet and doesn't charge extra for calling non-sprint phones.
Everywhere else (t-mobile, verizon, etc.) it seems to be $100 or more.
I agree.. Sprint still seems to have the best value. $70 for unlimited everything expect landlines.
Unlimited mobile 2 mobile(all carriers), web, text, email, navigation, and tv/radio.. 450 min to call landlines. But whos calling landlines that often anymore? Sprint FTW
Unfortunately it still comes with the same ole third world customer service reps who can't understand English very well.
After two months, 9 phone calls, 8 hours on the phone, $470 in overcharges, I broke free from my T-Mobile account and happily paid the early termination fee.
T-Mobile sucks!
I have never once in four years gotten a T-Mobile service rep that was not North America based... I have no idea what you're talking about.
Now, it does take an average of about 35 minutes to get to a person, but I've NEVER EVER gotten foreign customer support.
LOL .. T-Mobile? Seriously? You would have to pay me to get T-Mobile. Sprint all the way!! And ATT sucks too, I feel for you iPhone users.. One day you may experience the crisp, clear, FAST CDMA network of Verizon/Sprint..
while cdma is what the rest of the world is leaving behind...
I need some clarification on this. I'm currently have a myTouch 3G with the My Faves 300 w/ Unlimited Web. The voice plan is $40 and the unlimited data is $25. With this new plan, with a similar package, I would need the Even More 500 with Unlimited Web, which costs $10 MORE per month. Data by itself has been raised to $30 over $25. Am I going to be automatically switched over? I don't need 500 minutes. If they do raise the price automatically, I can get out of my contract, right?
Your rate is locked in as long as you don't change it... they will never take it away from you. But if they discontinue it, if you change it then you wouldn't be able to change it back. Just leave it and it won't change.
Boy what a game changer this is. Except in this game the customer always loses. Thanks for the stunning mediocrity T-Mobile. I'll be switching to AT&T or Verizon.
Nationwide 3G, What a crock. I live in Lexington, KY, a town with over 300,000 people and they have supposedly been gearing up for 3G for over 5 years. At&t just put 3G in Elizabethtown, KY and they only have 30,000 people there.
Whenever I would log into my T-Mobile account online since early last year, there would be a blurb about a $50 everything plan for long time subscribers (I've been with them since 1997). I never took advantage, but I I'm sure this is what they came up with after testing it with a small group.
They're trying to get into a more European way of doing things, for good or bad and it's not going to be favorable when there are other traditional options out there--American's don't like change. I'm not convinced that an everything plan is even that practical for the average consumer, it's a cost saving measure for the company.
Oh well. You've lost another T-Mobile.
What you've been seeing is the loyalty plan... I don't think it's the same thing. I mean, it may be similar, but I don't think that the loyalty plan was a beta for this dark thing.
Was really excited about about the $50 unlimited everything plan. Actually, I would've been excited about a $50 limited everything plan given that $70 is the minimum for any plan with data on any other major provider.
But $60 with limited voice? This is not a significant step up.
anyone notice the phones are cheaper when you pay for them monthly instead of all up front? (when looking at the touch pro) whats up with that??
-pete
This is worse than what they offered before. Now all data packages
cost $40 each, no multiple types of data packages, just the premium. I was going to setup a plan today for 5 phones with 2500 minutes, but now the only reasonable option is the unlimited and it is 40 for every additional line past the first two.
What was 109(2500 minutes)+30(for 3 extra lines)+25(unlimited family texts)+50(two data packages) minus the 15% AAA discount = 204
Now is 99(unlimited minutes)+120(for 3 extra lines)+80(two data packages) minus the 15% AAA discount = 255
or
79(1500 minutes)+30(for 3 extra lines)+80(two data packages) minus the 15% AAA discount = 161
1500 minutes is not near enough, 2500 was perfect, what about all of us who do not want unlimited and 1500 is not enough? $40 for an extra line, come on that outrageous.
$40 is for unlimited calling. Check the competition. It's much more expensive to add a line to an unlimited plan.
Data is not $40.
Data is $25 standalone on Even More Plus. $30 on Even More
$20 when bundled with Text on Even More Plus
If any of you stopped to read into the plans instead of overreacting to change you would KNOW this.
The no-contract plans seem to be much better. $59 for 500 minutes plus unlimited web and text on the G1 isn't bad at all, even if you buy a $399 G1. But I'd pull one off Craigslist for $150 instead.
My guess is that T-Mobile expects to sell a lot of unsubsidized N900's.
Sprint EPRP is the same thing (500 mins, $59.99, unlimited text + data) but you also get Any Time, Any Mobile which lets you call ANY US cell phone for free. So Sprint wins again.
Unsubsidized N900s? For $600? In the USA?? Puh-lease. Very few would go for that.
We Americans love our deferred responsibility. It's why we max out credit cards instead of waiting until we can afford to buy things, even though we know it will cost us much more in the end. Seriously, how many Americans are going to fork out $600 upfront in order to save $20 a month? I say, "Not gonna happen."
Well its Sunday ya'll and I wake up to a major disappointment that does include what current customers want (kickass phones comes to mind). So hellooo Verizon and your Motorola Droid or how about that seductive iPhone on AT%T. But, seriously the least T-mo could have done for there currents customers is announce the n900 or the HTC Dragon. At Least!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh sorry my bad on the first line I meant, I wake up to a major disappointment that does NOT include what current customers want (kickass phones comes to mind)
What phones do customers want that other carriers carry? I keep on hearing about how tmo doesn't have good phones but no one says specifically what.
for cameraphone, they have the memoir
for winmo, they have they touch pro 2 (ie tilt on at&t) with the hd2 coming out in a couple months
they have the largest number of android phones out now
the nokia n900 is coming out in less than a month
for blackberry, their getting the 9700
what's so different than what at&t and verizon are offering? at&t only has the iphone and verizon has the storm and their upcoming motorola droid (the premium one, not the lower end ones that are the same as all the other android devices).
i mean... what? they don't have the iphone? big deal. they don't have the palm pre? it's not like the palm pre has been a 'game changer'.
I think I want the Moto Droid... Too bad I'm not on VZW. How can T-Mo take the stupid effing Cliq and let VZW walk away with the Driod??
F. A. I. L.
NOTHING beats Sprint's Everything Data Plans. You get a SH*TLOAD of features for very little price, including data, unlimited texting, and now basically free calls with Any Mobile, Anytime b/c just about everyone has a cellular.... except for maybe most grandparents. Sprint's customer service has had a drastic change, and I get great service and data speeds, and VERY happy with my Pre. point blank. No issues over here shorr shorr.
i don't see the savings on these plans...its really disappointing...even if i wanted to make a move to a plan that costs exactly the same it still costs me $35 (migration fee) to do so
the now old my favs 300 with the 24.99 smartphone data +400 text came out to 64.98
since most people tend to use over 500 min total (in my case its close to 1000 total) with the my favs plans the only thing to compare it to would be the even more+ 1000 talk+text+web at 69.99 so either i save 5 dollars and loose 400-500 min or i spend 5 dollars more and get maybe 100-200 min more depending
now for me this is upseting because i am trying to save as much money as i can...i understand that the 5 dollars is prolly a good deal to gain unlimited texting out of the deal but for me i like haveing the option to make hard choices if i have to to save here and there and they just removed alot of options
also if you try and set up a new contract and add say a g1 it forces you into one of the unlimited web options ...there is no way to just get voice then add data
I've never seen so much unsubstantiated whining.
With all of the No Contract customers they will add, you all that think these prices are so unreasonable will be made up for in spades.
So, this turned out to be a let down. Unlimited everything at $50 was actually a game changing move. $79? How is this good enough to sway me from other carriers who are only a few bucks more and have the coverage I need?
At least they don't have to worry about what will happen to their 3g network when the masses run over for that *$50 unlimited everything* plan.
I laugh at them for thinking this will get them out of last place.
1500 anytime minutes (no night and weekends): $40
Unlimited data w/ 400 msgs: $25
My T-Mobile bill including taxes: $67.98.
I think I like my plan more than the new ones.
What state do you live in? NY state tax is killing me. My plan is $5 cheaper and is costing me $10 more because of taxes, and that's WITH easy pay -_-
Not only is MyFavs gone, it seems that UMA service is gone as well. This is BS!
It's not. Let's use some common sense.. why would they announce the BB 9700 with it and then remove it before it's even launched?
No need to get testy...if it's still there then I'd like you to show me where. I've run through the site and run nearly every combination of packages and phones and there is no mention of UMA capability anywhere. They may be having "website issues", but I sure can't find UMA phones on their site. Can you?
Correction...I can find the UMA phones...just not the ability to select the service. I would be very happy if you could show me where that is. As for the plans...they are not saving anyone any money. $40 extra per line (that's what shows in the cart) on a family plan over the first two is outrageous. My current needs would certainly see a major increase in cost over the old plans.
As a T-Mobile customer, I REALLY hope the myfaves are gone for good. Not that I don't like the service, but I DO HATE the phone customization T-Mobile does to give space to my faves. The Touch Pro 2 was not only ruined by not having the 3.5 mm headset jack the other Touch Pro 2's have, but also the home screen was devoted to MyFaves instead of the regular HTC cool screen. There is no way on Earth to remove that. That is pretty stupid if you ask me. I don't even have to use myfaves as I have the unlimited plan. Users should be given options. At least they were responsive to customer feedback about the use of magenta in the phone logos...
You can disable MyFaves in Touch Pro 2, go to MyFaves settings in Settings and disable it. I disabled it on my Touch Pro 2.
What I really turn off. This has nothing of game changing to be honest. I prefer to get a Straight Talk at Walmart with unlimited everything for $45 a month, no contract, and using Verizon coverage.
I was really expecting something really revolutionary. Like the fabled unlimited $50 or $60 they were talking about. This is NOTHING , NOTHING close to the rumors that were being spread.
With Sprint, you get the phone subsidized, you get unlimited calls to cell-phones, 450 min to non-cell-phones, GPS, TV, data, texts, voice, 3G - real 3G - for $69.99, Better deal if you ask me.
Not to mention Sprint makes it really easy to get an extra 50 landline minutes and employee referral pricing (another $10 off per month) since their execs post their referral info online.
And for those lucky enough to still be on the $30 SERO plan they still give subsidies and even contract renewal credits if you're in good standing.
Aw, please don't mention SERO - I was so stupid to give up my $29.99 contract. ***hits himself in the face with his T-Mobile phone***
I am really happy I just got my plan last week. 1000 minutes + unlimited text and data for my unlocked iPhone was only $59/month with no contract. Cheapest version of that plan has gone up by $10. If they touch my plan, I'm gone since I have no contract.
Would you be willing to take a 50 cent an hour pay cut if in exchange you got an iPhone with internet and unlimited calling? That is effectively what it costs you. These tmobile plans are not so great. In fact, all the cell phone companies are ripping us all off. Sure, once in awhile I get iPhone-envy when my friends are playing with theirs, but, really, I can live without having access to the web wherever I go. Until tmobile comes up with a simple all inclusive plan, it is all a bunch of hype. A simple plane should include unlimited SMS, unlimited phone calls, and unlmited digital/internet access for a flat rate. Then, be honest and let the price of the expensive smartphone be paid out over the course of a year, under contract, instead of hiding the cousts with the pricing scheme. I know some people paying as much for their internet/cable/phone/sms/mobile web services as they do for rent or for their car. They are driving a Kia, to afford AT+T universe service, when they could use a cheap cell phone and drive a Cadillac. Oh! Well! I guess I am just not hip enough to own an iPhone. I have the tmobile loyalty plan and I think they charge too much for that. If the metroPCS phones were not so crappy, I might switch to that.
MetroPCS phones are not that crappy. They have a Blackberry Curve, a new Samsung Code with Windows Mobile 6.1 #G and YES YES YES AN 3.5 MM HEADSET JACK!
You pay $50 and that is it. Now... the problem is... Metro coverage sucks... sucks really bad dude.
My friend has a Metro and when we go South of the City the coverage drops a lot, the calls do not go through inside buildings.
I honestly think, the primary purpose of a phone is to make calls to connect with people by voice. I have a T-Mobile and the reception is ok on that area, but my company uses Verizon and my Verizon phone has always its bar high - it is like Verizon is always on Viagra.
In conclusion, check Metro and go play with the Code. Also, check Virgin, they have a decent smartphone, the Helio Ocean 2. Virgin also uses Sprint towers.
These plans will cost me more than what I am paying tmobile already... I currently have 2 lines, family plan, my faves 1800, 1800 minutes, unlimited text and data on both lines, and pay right around 160.. the only way i can be cheaper than what I already have is to back down to the new 1500 minute plan, where i would save less than $10..
Tmobile apparently forgot about their existing contract customers here, i will probably switch to sprint if they don't fix these prices within the next week- that or they better let me out of my contract to get the superior non-contract rates.
the only thing i liked is that there is a price difference for contract and no-contract plans.. you are savng $10 * 24months = $240. this is the price that they usually subsidize the phone for.. so if you are like me where you buy phones unlocked then you are good to go here!! great work T-Mobile!!!
Just for info, in France we got plan for 40 euros with :
*Unlimited Web (3G obviously @70% of territory),
*Unlimited Text (to anybody),
*Unlimited TV,
*2 or 3 hours of calling (but its not the same system, carriers charges ONLY when I call someone, not when I'm receiving a call or for anything else) which quiet enough when you got unlimited texting :D.
And this is on a national big and trusted Carrier (SFR which is in cooperation whit Vodafone for International).
And the most funny is that people find it expansive (I was until I lived in America :p).
So please American Carriers, stop to make huge profits on Americans consumers et give us a real plan (Ok 50$ Unlimited exist but there is always a problem : You got to buy their own phones (with strange and old norms I have never seen before) or you got an infamous coverage...)
Oh and of course when I talk about 3G I mean 3G+ (or 3.5G) with 7.2Mb/s transfer rate.
I can understand if TMO had their 21Mbps HSPA+ service in place when they rolled out these plans...but without that super high speed network, their smartphone plans are no better than Sprint's.
And when Clearwire completes their WiMax network, booya to consistently higher speeds on Sprint's future 4G phones, by comparison to the spotty speeds on traditional wireless networks.
Just imagine...when Sprint or Verizon introduces their first 4G Android phone...T-Mo is toast.
So the did not expand coverage and made the plans more expensive?
Ha - that is exactly how I see it too.
Great job T-Mobile!
I don't get it anymore...
Isn't it cheaper to get the 500 minutes + text and then add on the $10 unlimited web??? instead of 500 minutes + text + web?? I'm lost.
