inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry up for pre-order, ships in February 2010
Just as we'd heard, RIM decided to outsource the production of the planet's first BlackBerry watch, but that doesn't mean that devoted BB Messenger users won't be hankerin' for one. The inPulse Smartwatch for BlackBerry is being produced by Allerta, and now that it's official, we can safely say that it'll rely on Bluetooth in order to bring incoming emails, text messages and other alerts from your handset to your wrist (or your ankle, if you roll like that). As for specs, you're looking at a 1.3-inch OLED display, glass lens, full metal body, vibrating motor, microUSB port and a rechargeable battery that's good for around four days of "normal use." inPulse users will have to install a special BlackBerry application in order to pass along information, but those hoping to use their watch to actually send messages will be sorely disappointed. It's up for pre-order now at $149, and if all goes well, the first ones will ship out in February.

LOL
Ya that's kinda what I thought. As if you thought before that people couldn't be more attached to their mobile devises.
But for $150 dollars it total beats pulling out your cellphone every once and a while.
Kudos to RIM for making a watch for their cell phones, but did it really have to be so ugly?
I hope Apple follows suit!
You hope Apple follows this? Their watch would cost, roughly, $300! Don't doubt it either. Remember the riduculous pricing on those "Premium" leather sleeves that they had for the iPods a long while back? And the ridiculous price on the BT set?
Yeah.
Apple is so deeply concerned with their cool image, they would never make anything so innately un-cool as a bluetooth watch. It's the calculator watch of our day.
Yeah, I want one anyway.
So, this thing will only work if you own a Blackberry already?
Yeah...so instead of wearing a stupid bluetooth ear piece, or instead of having to take out your phone to see whether the call you are receiving (or text or email) is worth taking out your phone for, you can check first!
Yes, but what other phone is worth owning?
The world is divided into two types of cell phones. BlackBerrys and "other crap"
This watch is going to hurt when you constantly smack your forehead for buying it.
The world's first ever "girl-away" watch.
No, that was the calculator watch.
nice!)

I have no comments. My heart is empty from the Project Dark turn-off let-down. I think I would need therapy.
That boy needs therapy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8BWBn26bX0
Yes, I too am suffering from post-Project Dark let down. :-)
Some people are way too lazy to take their phones from their pockets...
Yeah, that's exactly what they said when those new-fangled strap watches appeared on the market and started to take business away from pocket watches.
Make a chained pocket watch version, please!
seems like this will just be one of those inPulse buys....
So wait...wait wait wait...
It's not actually a watch phone, its just a watch that lets you see whats come in to the blackberry that you still have to carry?
I'd like to propose a new name for this model...since it's the first try and all, it should have a great name that shows just what it does...I'm thinking it should be called the:
inPulse-to-be-forever-labeled-as-a-huge-loser-who-will-never-get-laid-and-I-mean-never-ever-in-the-history-of-this-universe-will-I-ever-touch-a-female-ever
The other problem I see with this is that the BB will only let you be connected to one BT device at a time, so you can't use a headset AND the watch, so you'll lose the handsfree by having this. So, that would really suck since the BB ain't exactly comfortable to hold up to your head all day.
So it won't let you be a douche and a nerd at the same time?
Actually, it will. The watch won't connect on the headset profile, so the phone could still connect to a headset at the same time.
a watch like this seems to be one of the few places eink would work well... i dont want to charge my watch! (a lot)
It look cheaply made. And why is the screen so small and the black border big? Can't they just make the screen bigger than just waste space? Lame.
needs a built-in calculator
This will fail. Didn't Microsoft try this, and find it was completely impractical? I'll stick to having a phone I can put away when I want to that I don't have to wear.
No, Microsoft's Spot was totally different. Spot provided its own 1-way data network, and charged you for it. This relies on your phone's already-paid-for data connection.
a watch that runs out of battery after four days...
way to go.
Could have used flexible OLED and at least 2" screen. Would make those messages readable, at the very least.
Im gonna get it. Even if its unnecessary, its still a watch, and you cant have too many of those. As long as the build isnt cheap.
Why the hell do we have to wait till February?
So you can have time to rethink your decision if you actually decided to buy one...
I am a loyal BlackBerry user as well as a gadget nerd. The practical side of me honestly can not see a need in my life for this to fill, while the inner geek simply says "Meh..."
BB user demographics:
1) Business folk, 2) wealthy arab and russian offspring and premiership footballers, and I guess, 3) the younger generation who like to be hip do the whole BBM thing.
i dont see business folk wanting to mix into their suit what I believe a Tag, Seiko or Patek would do much better.
I also don't see the Nobu and 4 grand a night on lavish magnums of dom perignon in private members clubs here in Central London type of crowd switching their Hublots, Rolexs' and diamond encrusted Frank Mullers anytime soon.
The hip youngsters, I also dont think thats an accessory mummy or daddy would be buying them after already forking out £40 a month so the said offspring can BBM his mate. Although saying this, this is possibly the only market that may buy this product out of the other two mentioned.
I am sure an aftermarket "strap on the upper wrist" extended battery pack would be a big hit for the 3 users that actually buy these and would like to eek a little more than 4 days of use out of their watches before having to plug it in to a wall outlet or computer and recharge.
I hope they make one for the Palm Pre!
