Garmin nuvifone G60 going for $100 on Amazon
You know what's insulting? Charging $300 for a nuvifone G60 in the year 2009. It's cool, though -- Amazon, as usual, is our knight in shining armor by swooping in with a $99.99 deal on contract, making the idea of a one-trick pony nav phone with a closed platform and hellish browser just a little more palatable. A big, fat caveat emptor still applies, of course.

Still don't see the use of buying this phone.. My pre can do this without a monthly fee. freeeee sprint nav
Yep, this is for the ignorant ones.
There's just no reason to buy a GPS that is also a poor smartphone when you can get many good smart phones that are adequate or better at GPS.
To be fair.. the GPS in this likely better than anything out there now - period. Including that abortion TOmtom is selling for the iphone, which costs AS MUCH as a second cellphone.
The idea that is the iss ue is, the reviewz have been poor. If it was a GOOD phone, and had exchange, perhaps a better browsing experience, and ran winmo OR Android, this would be a non-issue.
One can only hope that Garmin-Asus new android and winmophones will shine, since all Garmin needs to do is shove their great gps software onto it.
I wanted this 2 years ago when they first started talking about it
lemme guess, now you don't like it cause it's a "sell out" and that you liked it "before it was popular".
I think he means that there are better options out there now since the idea is no longer "fresh".
no.. he liked it because 2 years ago this device would have been decent and ahead of the curve in comparison with what was available.
he no longer likes it because 2 years later, the market is saturated of a plethora of options, many of which are superior.
And even two years ago, it looked like it was two years outdated.
The Garmin Nuvifone G60 makes a fine navigator but fails as a smartphone. It's not worth the money.
Yeah it's cute but I'd rather have something that's a phone first, gps second... Not the other way around.
They kept telling us this phone would come out sometime early to mid 2009. It makes sense to launch it during the holiday season, but now it has to compete with many other heavily expected phones. Is it because they wanted to keep reaping on iPhone sales, or finalizing the product, idk, but I think if they gave it an earlier release it would have brought more attention to it. A lot of ppl including myself were waiting on this since 2008, now its almost 2010. And I'm really into Android, and might think about getting the Sholes from VZ. But does anybody know anything about if this or another Garmin phone coming out soon will run Android???
Its ended up just like the Xperia. Alot of hype but took way to long to come to market and ended up dying in the ass.
Garmin is releasing the details of the Android phone in 2009. Hopefully its delivered faster the the original.
how can an emptor be fat at the same time? Is that helluva possible?
re-phrase : how can an emptor be big and fat at the same time?

Garmin & the other GPS guys that build standalone units know that their days are numbered & that people use their smartphones for everything now (including navigation), but they dont wanna accept it, so they build pieces of shit like this.
You guys need to just concentrate on making the best software you can & distributing it to REAL phone makers/platforms like RIM, Apple, Android, Palm, etc. No one is stupid enough to buy these phones.
I still think the iPhone is a better deal.
STFU & GTFO TROLL!!!
Say what you want, but in this case he is absolutely right!
No he's not
@XChrisX - tell me how is this is a *better* deal than the iPhone?
While I'm certainly not a Apple fan, I do have to agree with.......iTroll....the iPhone is a better phone in this circumstance.
Somehow my name got spammed and I made the first comment stating that while this phone is $99 while also at $99 the iPhone 3g is a better deal. Not sure who made the "No he's not comment."
If you look at it as basically a featurephone with Nuvi navigation, it's not a bad deal.
It's not an Android phone, it's not a WinMo phone, it's not a WebOS phone, it's not an iPhone. It's more like an LG Dare or Instinct with Nuvi built-in. Which is great for some people. It's just not great for people that want a modern smartphone.
Unlocked?
I don't care if it was $1.00 on contract....I'm still not buying it.
I like the look of the interface.
I could sell my current Garmin GPS and get this on upgrade and I'd be happy.
I will however, wait :C
Wow, that's an absolutely killer price. I would grab one if I didn't have to have the contract.
I still remember when this was announced and how many people said this would be an iPhone killer. From where I'm standing, it doesn't look like an iPhone killer...
This is probably the best phone gps system there is. The map are built into the phone and don't require a laggy crappy cellphone internet connection to guide you around. Also the stand alone gps systems days are not numbered. A ton of older non tech people don't want a ton of features they can't figure out how to use in their phones. They want something simple and dummy proof. This isn't the best smart phone but it sure is very simple to use.
So I was right. This ended up to be a fail.
IPhone still seems only Phone worth a $30 data plan on contract.
My only problem with this is the insistence that it is a smart phone. It is a GPS with phone capabilities, if I could get a contract that would allow me to use the GPS and the phone, then I'd be interested. The contract is what kills this device.
I don't get why they don't focus on the software plus accessory route like TomTom.
They would be able to reach the largest market by releasing apps on iTunes, android, BB, and Nokia markets.
After today's Google news, I return to say, "Goodbye, nuviphone."
