Sky Player on Xbox 360 receives first eyes-on analysis
Sky TV has made its arrival on the Xbox 360 today in prompt fashion, with live streaming and on-demand video available, and the keen lads over at Electric Pig already have a preview of the service in action. Their immediate reaction was that the Sky Player interface was "ultra-speedy" and easily navigable using the 360 controller. Streaming at the high-quality setting (alas, there's no HD on offer yet) was also no problem on a 4Mb broadband connection, though they reserve their highest praise for the on-demand content which was pumped through within a couple of seconds of selection and benefits from an "astonishingly well-designed interface." For the full impressions of the subscription-based service, which starts out at £15 per month, hit up the read link below.

Oh goody, endless re-runs of The Simpsons to get in the way of my gaming.
Get something similar to me in the US and i'm set .
netflix streaming is already available.
Color me jealous. Netflix is great, but it doesn't have live TV.
The launch of this has actually been a disaster. After first installing it this morning, the service would not connect for me, nor many others judging by various forums. Having tried multiple times since - still no luck. Just various error messages, unable to connect, telling me to check my XBox network connection (all fine), and within the last hour, the service has been removed completely from the dashboard. The suggested support url yields nothing relevant or of use. All in all a complete mess.
Will the U.S. get something similar?
What price if already a sky subscriber? Free?
It has disappeared from my dashboard now and when I could access it it wouldn't let me connect and I'm on a 25mb connection, I hope things are sorted soon.
@ Cox
It should be free if you are already a sky subscriber.
RTFA
Free to air channels are free to none subscribers.
Check the Xbox.com forums - the whole thing is down due to Sky server issues. I read that Microsoft expect it to be back up today, obviously they had a 'word' with the people at Sky when they found out it wasn't working.
Starts at £15/Month? It had better be free for existing Sky subscribers...
that IS the price for existing sky subscribers, kinda like when you pay extra to have multi room
Screw that then, not worth it imo.
So if I've got a Sky Subscription at my house, I should be able to watch it on my Xbox anywhere for free ?
Hi James if you have Sky will be able to watch Sky Player on your xbox or online on pc www.sky.com/skyplayer all the on-demand content on sky player for free if you subscribe to those channels on your box. If you want to watch the 24 live channels for free then you need to have multi room or sky bb unlimited if you have neither but still want to watch live channels then you can get an online sky player account - was £10 its being reduced to £5.
will Canada get it, or do we get the short end of the stick like the zune gives us?
Sky is a UK based TV service so probably not.
oops, i ment to say something like it
Well France got the equiv with their service canal so it could happen I guess.
It's actualy only free if you have a multiroom sub so it kind of has little purpose.

Sky is owned by News Corp. The same guys who own Hulu. I dont see why it wouldn't eventually head to the US in some form. Though a lot of work has gone into Sky Player
i cant get sky on my xbox ! i cant find anything about it being taken down other than whats been said on here. poor show sky poor show.
It hasn't worked all morning and has now been removed!
Oh Sky, you get one thing to do and you f**k that up, thank god Microsoft did all the development for you.
Now do you need somebody to run your servers as well.....
The House of Commons meetings on Sky TV are actually quite funny and entertaining to watch.
British broadcasting news, like the BBC, at last does not have the immoral biases that Fox New Network has, by far.
Actually Sky and Fox are the same company, both owned by News corp.
Well for me Sky Player on their website has been working absolutely fine since 11.30 am, thats for over 3 hours now, but the same doesnt apply to x360.
But hey, what do you expect from Microsoft and its new partner (SKY) who is a known UK thief, despite that you have a Xbox Live Gold Account, you still have to pay to have any sky content.
MS says that you have to have a gold account just for this rubish?
After I installed sky player, it also wont connect, as it doesnt for any Xbox Gold Live Members, and now MS purposely removed SKY PLAYER from the Menu, to keep everyone's mouth shut.
What a bunch of Wankers!
Oh, i forgot, this website is US based, so the time is different since in the UK we are 4 hours ahead of US.
I don't get it. 15 pound for slightly augmented functionality that you are already receiving from your dish? I'd rather pay the multi-room fee for another fully functioning receiver. Actually, I'd have no problem paying almost $30 US for Sky Sports in Minnesota so I can stop watching shitty Sky feeds on Willow TV...
"Sky Player subscriptions come free for satellite customers, and start at £15 per month for those without a dish. However, a word to the thrifty: those with a second home, or trekking to university with their Xbox in tow, might like to remember that each Sky Player account can have four PCs attched, as well as one Xbox, and those consoles and PCs needn’t be in the same household as the satellite dish."
Happy now?
Its Down, its needs a gold account, sky broadband unlimited, sky multi room its not just as simple as updating it ,i am very disappointed the gold account i can take the sky+ digital account but wtf is with all the other crap, and now its down, epic fail,SKY!
