Titanium Mouse by Intelligent Design costs $1,200, might be worth a little less
No matter how bad the global economy gets, you can always rely on there being a select few people with (a lot) more money than sense. Exclusively for them, Dutch outfit Intelligent Design has put together this handcrafted Bluetooth laser mouse, which boasts a neodymium scroll wheel, high quality plastic resin and a grade 1 titanium body. We didn't know you could handcraft titanium and we challenge anyone to explain what neodymium has to do with good input ergonomics, but then maybe that just shows how little we know about luxurious items like this. So, if you have $1,200 (or €800 in Old World money) to spare, why not add this unnamed mouse to your shopping list, just under the Mnemosyne USB drive? More snaps can be found after the break.

Huh?! I know that the Bugatti is over priced, but over $1K for a #$!%ing MOUSE?!
Have you ever driven a Veyron?
I don't think $2 Million dollars for a car who's 2nd gear is the high end of 100 mph and goes from 0 - 60 in less than 4 seconds, topping out at 255mph is overpriced.
Only thing that gets me about the Veyron is, I'd expect it to have a HUD and a Navigation system for that price.
As for this mouse, I'll wait for the KIRF.
This mouse does not believe in evolution!
@Whitecollarcriminal
Actually if you were able to order a Veyron and get delivery of a new one, it was more like $1.3 million or so. And it goes from 0-60 in less than 3 seconds, far quicker than 4.
Pretty impressive for a fancy Volkswagen, don't you think?
Overpriced? The Veyron costs more to make than what Bugatti sells it for. How can it be overpriced when it is by definition underpriced? It might be a waste of money but it is not overpriced.
There are rich people out there, they will pay lots for premium products. If you want to make megabucks figure out what the rich want and make that. I mean the top 10% control 90% of the wealth, that's a lot of disposable income.
or you could buy 80 or so, yamaha R1's if you're so fixed on a 0-60 less than 3 seconds.
plus you can do wheelies.
I could make my car do 100mph in second gear for a hell of a lot less than $2m. Diff gears ain't expensive.
The 250+mph is a bit of a tall order though.
Personally I'd rather have a real sports car like a Zonda or McLaren F1 or something rather than an overweight techno-marvel GT car that's better for bragging rights than any kind of actual driving.
Even the magic mouse for 69 euro's looks better and has more functionality
The Bugatti Veyron is way overpriced. I could build a faster sports car for half the price. You're only paying for the Bugatti logo. I've heard something like that about a famous fruit company's computer products.
BTW, that titanium mouse looks like a torture device... for the hands. The ergonomics look absolutely terrible. I'd like to meet the metrosexual that designed that without ever having used a mouse before.
@Average White Boy: Since it costs VW more to build the Veyron than they sell it for, I wouldn't call it overpriced. The Veyron is a wonderful piece of engineering. Sure you can build a car that is faster for less money, but that car would scare the hell out of you at such speeds, won't be luxurious and would only be designed for aerodynamics... the Veyron is designed to be a piece of art. Reportedly the Veyron isn't scary or hard to drive at 250 mph. That IS impressive.
Of course, as a race car it's a bit stupid, there are better choices. To me, the Veyron is a bit like the Concorde. Sure, there are faster planes out there, but they won't transport many passengers.
$1,200? Does it come with a free computer?
LOL ! + 1
And I bet you BEST BUY would still try and sell you some "corrosion proof" or "bend proof" warranty for $900 - 3 years.
Don't forget the geek squad set up! :P
Like the iMac and the Magic Mouse
... And people say that Apple products are expensive. HA!
They still are! Just cause there is something else even more expensive doesn't mean crapple isn't gouging people anymore.
and we still do...
engadget forgot to add the battery is powered by the hopes and dreams of children around the world.
THIRD !!!
(Actually the Bugatti is under-priced - they each cost over $5,000,000 to build but ONLY charge $2,000,000) Such a deal...)
They lose $3M on each unit but make up for it in quantity. 8^)
If they cost $5M to make, the people making them are over charging (and the person employing them is overpaying). Need to relocate the factory to China or Indonesia.
The mfr is named "Intelligent Design". Hmmm, must be targeting creationists. Well they are a stupid, gullible lot after all.
I'd prefer a mouse created by a machine that is ultra precise instead of a "handcrafted" version any day.
Not bad....I can stash wads of $100 bills between it.....
From wiki "The metal has a bright, silvery metallic luster; however, as one of the more reactive rare earth (lanthanide) metals, it quickly oxidizes in air. The oxide layer then falls off, which exposes the metal to further oxidation. Thus a centimeter-sized Nd sample completely oxidizes within a year."
so your scroll wheel will only last about a year!
Planned obsolescence.
Just in time for the new model!
Intelligent Design= Unintelligent price
It even doubles as a wedge for splitting firewood. I'll take 10 !
It's beautiful the way the form follows the gesture of the human hand during mouse-rest position.
Excellent for someone with "I use my mouse like a puff" syndrome.

Yes, well, if my monocle is not fooling my eye, I see not one diamond on this little darling, and thus I wouldn't be caught dead using it...have these people no style whatsoever!
I just ordered an Italian Flos Arco lamp, and it’s nearly twice as much. After seeing this silly mouse I’m starting to feel a little guilty or just plain crazy.
Regards,
Dan
$2k for one of these ??? You must indeed be crazy. :P
Um, no. He said, "I just ordered an Italian Flos Arco lamp". But yes, I agree Dan, you must be crazy.
Polk Audio's HitMaster: your own personal Rock Band stage monitor {Engadget}
Oct 24th 2009 6:51PM I was going to mention how senseless this device is, but I remembered that I recently ordered an Italian floor lamp for $2,190.00.
Regards,
Dan
god, i cant wait for dans next update on his lamp!!!
Fugly 3rd degree.
Looks like a 10€ discount mouse, and ergonomically challenged.
Kabe
Razer Deathadder.....$65.....I rest my case.
-and it's priced in Unobtanium.
(which puts a strainium on the brainium)
Check it.
On second thought, it could also double as a clasp to keep your potato chip bag closed in the pantry.

Dan
Or you could get this logitech mouse with similar styling features , the same "brushed metal look" ...and pay less than you'd pay for a large pizza.

haha, wow... it's like the same mouse
Well, it DOES look insanely stylish, though.
How gauche.
If you want upscale, go upscale:
* platinum/rhodium scroll wheel (who wants that lightweight neodymium/titanium crap)
* hand-crafted osmium body
* iridium flake cast in resin
* emerald, diamond, and ruby pips (one each for finger placement) for the three mouse buttons (why only two?)
Yes, nice. See you at the polo grounds this weekend chap!
As far as I can tell, this is the only regular-shaped mouse above $14.99 that doesn't have back and forward buttons.
Neodymium Iron Boron is used to make powerful magnets. The scroll-wheel is probably a magnet, with hall effect sensors nearby allowing the reliable detection of its absolute rotation with no moving parts (apart from the actual wheel). They could even have made it sealed so there is no mechanism for crap to get into.
Still overkill though.
