Machined Gear Clock makes watching the time pass a true joy (video)
We've seen no shortage of homegrown clocks in our day, and while most are cute for their time, few are worthy of being lauded in this manner. Alan Parekh's Gear Clock is a delightful mishmash of machined gears, thrown together in a fashion that resulted in an actual time-telling gizmo. Hop on past the break to watch this thing spin, but be sure to hold the mute button for the lead-in. Clearly 'Sound Check' wasn't activated.

i want one with every gear painted a different bright color
needs leds
You know what raelly grinds my gears!
you know, if he miniaturized it and gave it a wrist strap it could be a magical invention.
ill call it. a watch!
Put a google logo on it and what do you have? Google gears!
Paint it white or cover it in alu and ask way too much money for it : iGears !
Okay that was lame, I admit it. Stop shoving already !
Stronger motor + Sharper more metal gears = Deathklok
if this thing had a pendulum, would it be called a dethharmonic?
OR
if this thing had an alarm, would it be called a dethharmonic?
the.... metal gear clock.
sorry guys. hahah
Personally I was going with the less obvious Gears of Clock.
Thou + 1 to you sir.
'Manually control time'
If they made a metal version of this, I could see novelty shops eating this up.
A clock that doesn't actually tell you the specific time, genius.
an idiot that doesn't know how to listen to a video, genius!
it's something fit for a museum, in your house..?
i was hoping the time could be read where the two gears meet. in my opinion that would be more convenient and cooler.
There's nothing stopping you just setting that point to the correct time and then reading it from there.
This is so boring.. I couldn't finish the video..
I love it when people with funny accents do smart things.
I invented something similar. It's a carbon filament inside a wooden tube, with the carbon exposed at one end.
By pushing it on paper, I can create images directly, without the need for a printer or electricity!
1:25: "I can manually control time" sweeeet
It needs a Second hand... or second gear or whatever. Most people stared at the video for about 10 seconds, decided it didn't do anything interesting and closed it.
once he changes it such that the motor drives a second gear, and then via ratios in turn, drives the minute and hour wheels, he has at that point reinvented the mechanical clock. But, I agree with you. Something with more kinetic interest....
