Hmm....a bit disappointing! No headphones? A holster would've been nice.
That dock accessory looks pretty awesome, I must say.
Engadget - DOES THE HANDSET OUTPUT HD??? Are there audio/video out jacks on the back of the dock, or is it just a single USB interface? Does the dock have an IR receiver, or anything to that extent?
I Sholes want one : O
I'm all for keeping cost down and not including headphones. Who really uses stock headphones anymore, anyway?
I agree with daryll. I don't really know much about the Droid but assuming it's a 3.5mm jack I would prefer them cutting out the low-quality factory buds and using my own.
droid compared to iphone short review:
overall rating *** of 5.
Not as easy to use as the iphone in many ways.
1. Harder to edit text (more steps to do so, less intuitive.)
2. Some web pages are more limited than the same page on iphone. (and since it can't use 3G in my main location it's a LOT slower.)
3. camera/movie is not near as good as the iphone, due to much less light sensitivity. (I did a back to back duplicate video of my location, indoors then outside, and the iphone video showed clearly in areas where the Droid was totally black.)
4. Calendar was really really slow until I figured out I had to shut off the syncing with Google Calendar online. then it was much better.
5. However after doing that I was not able to access my Google calendar events through the Droid browser. But had no trouble doing so on the iphone.
6. I couldn't download the Droid Manual by using the Droid (link not available), but at the same site I had no trouble downloading it in a few seconds on the iphone. (I was trying to find out what the signal icon meant, that was showing on the Droid, upper left. it looks like an M, & it is supposed to be 3G for best signal.)
7. it was very difficult getting all of my calendar events loaded onto the Droid.
8. this site is trying to time me out for 'inactivity'. so end of review.
Pros:
better battery life so far, feels solid, I like the vibrate when touching screen on certain things
Cons:
in my area it's much slower access to internet than the iphone. iphone uses 3G here, but not Droid
Box is not that interesting. Especially with the Verizon branding.
stick to your isuck and move along?
The MyTouch 3G packaging was the best.
Right, because we're buying this phone for the box. . .
WANT!!!
DRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Engadget,
Please share the love and send me a review unit.

everyone else
Dear Engadget, I'll review it for free. I'll even pay for shipment!
All this Droid news is going to make my human head explode!
Wear a helmet.
Duct tape will fix that right up.
Bow before your new Android overlords.
Unboxings just aren't what they used to be. A phone and a cord...where's the tiny little robots that are starting the invasion?
I thought it came with a 16 gig MicroSD?
16 GB card is pre installed.
It's preinstalled, baby.
And everyone thought Moto was dead.... well they got back their Motto and their Mojo !!!
The Droid has found its Cliq !
am I the only iphone owner thinking of switching over to the droid?
Your not alone, but I bought this 3 months ago so I'm going to wait till next year when the 'droid phones are really kicking
nope. trying to determine what my ETA with AT&T would be as we speak...
Of course you're not alone, dood.
I just looked at the price of a used unlocked 16GB 3G on ebay, and it's still hovering at around $400 :-o
Seems like eating that ETF and getting a Droid in your hot little hands might not effectively cost you a dime.
DOES ANYONE KNOW if Verizon has announced plan pricing for Droids? Is it a different pricing structure than their other smartphones? Link anyone?
I got my iPhone last February (switched from Sprint) My ETF at this point is less than the price of one months service. One month of crappy, spotty, drop prone service.
I'm out.
yes
not alone, i'm waiting for my contract to expire next june (also to see iphone4) but android and especially this phone are swaying my decision heavily
Nope, I am thinking of switching over as well. Nothing wrong with the iPhone, just hate the network its on...when it's able to get on it.
I just got the 3GS a couple months ago & I'm probably going to do it. I like the iPhone, but blocking Google Voice is my primary reason for switching... The 500 dollars I can get on E-bay will offset the ETF & cost of the droid..
i've never cared for an unboxing before, but today, I DO
Totally deserved an unboxing video. I don't care if the box was brown with the phone carelessly thrown inside.
Sweet Verizon Logo on the front..........
A STACK...did we really need to know that?
Also, this gets my vote for most disappointing unboxing ever. I was really looking forward to a talking mini R2D2. :(
If I wanted good packaging, I buy a crappy phone. Aesthetics is all the iphone grabs people really with, when comes down to it. I rather have versatile no holds bar phone than Iphone closed platform with a crap network and shiny box. LOL!
They mutated Hal-9000.
This is easily enough to tempt me back to Big Red. T-Mobile is ok, but I had WAY better coverage with Verizon.
What's with the packaging?
"Free Eye of Sauron in every box!"
Prediction: many DIY docking stations.
will carve mine out of pine
Come on Nov. 6th!! Come on!!!
Anyone know the 1-year and month to month pricing on this bad boy?
looks awesome!!
You definitely need to find out pricing on the docks!! I'll want both car and desk if they're reasonable!
and what's up with this popping up below stories already published? lol, i have to scroll down to see new stories? (Or is this just me?)
From what I've heard and seen in regards to this product it looks amazing. But for a $200 that is suppose to be ground breaking in it's efforts to out due the iPhone the packaging and accessories are severely lacking. Why do some companies still not understand the importance of good package design.
Because most consumers get rid of the package once they have a device up and running. At that point, who cares what the package looked like? The Droid itself is ultimately the more important thing here.
Why do you not understand proper end punctuation?
yeah, bought my iphone, the box was in the trash within a day, MBP i waited because it was a walk to the dumpster, and the box wouldnt fit in the trash chute. just my 2 cents.
I would buy this phone in a paper bag if that's what it came in
lame, the first 10,000 should have included a special edition R2D2 action figure.
or a special star wars-themed pocket protector. fiddlesticks.
