Nokia's N97 mini gets its shipping papers
Right on cue, the smaller-but-just-barely N97 mini is now ready for public consumption over in Europe. Granted, we're certainly at the tail end of October, but we can't say that we caught Nokia in a lie or anything based on what was said last month in Stuttgart. You've already committed the specifications to memory and read all about firmware 2.0, so now all that's left to do is run along, fork out €450 ($667) and wonder forever if this decision will positively or negatively change the course of your life.

*yawn*
YOU ARE AN IDIOT IF YOU BUY THE DROID INSTEAD OF THIS!
/nokia fanboi
happy droid day, everyone! :-)
big yawn here also. wake me up when Nokia figures it out about android.
I just can't understand this. Take a failed phone and make it smaller and then sell it more or less the same price as the original? They are supposed to be innovating and hashing out Maemo based snap dragons with keyboards at least 4 inch displays, OLED, hardware graphics acceleration, and xenon flash for god sakes if they want to remain competitive.
Who gives a shit about this phone right now? DROID FTW!
Hey, I'll be the first to say I love me some Droid, but there's no reason to go fanboy. iTards are bad enough, we don't need rabid Droidheads.
Honestly, I have to agree, the boys Espoo and my little brother walked into the room at the wrong time.
*closes door slowly*
well it says its available for consumption in Europe and since Droid isnt quite just yet, i think we should stop trolling other phones for now.
Thanks, I'll wait a bit longer for the N900.
Same here.
Especially because the OS hasn´t been castrated like Android was. Just install one additional package and the you can push the hardware to its limits.
What he said
Ditto.
YO NOKIA, I'M REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU, IMMA LET YOU FINISH BUT MOTOROLA JUST STOLE THE DAY. STOLE THE DAY!
enough of this bullshit.
Nokia is done for. The Droid is going to be the highest selling phone in the history of the world. Apple = done. RIM = done. Palm = been done.
N900>Droid
N900 = Droid
Seriously, Android and Maemo should be the last OS' fighting. They're both Linux variants! God, where's Master Chief when you need him?
Nokia might be at the disadvantage in the smartphone market now, but they are far from done as they have a boatload of dumbphones on the market, WORLDWIDE, not just US CDMA.
Apple is far from done either, as the iPhone is being sold WORLDWIDE, not just US CDMA.
Same thing with RIM.
Palm, well, maybe you're right on that one.
Having a CDMA US only phone won't do crap. Look at the Palm Pre. Moto needs to spit out a GSM/HSDPA version out to ride on the momentum.
"Seriously, Android and Maemo should be the last OS' fighting. They're both Linux variants! God, where's Master Chief when you need him?"
Correction: Android is linux-based, Maemo *is* linux. There is a difference.
Try getting root access on an Android phone.
You get my point, though...
Lol !!!
I love your humor, get back to me on nov 9. 72 hours after the release of motorola. Tell ne if it failed to do what iPhone has done twice. That is sell 1 million smartphone in 72 hours. See how desirable it is.
July 2008
june 19 2009.
These are facts bro
these are qualifictions to deserve coveted title of iphonekiller.
Then we can talk
.............welcome back Truth.
Oh boy..... with every great phone comes a great load of fanboys.... This is like Star Wars again... the Droids are now attacking us after we change their oils and charged their batteries.
Don't get me wrong Nokia makes great phones, but using an older ARM architecture processor that operates at 434 is a mistake when you see newer 1 Ghz phones coming out.
btw, when no accounting OS on the phones N900 > Moto Droid
MArketing wise its definitely a mistake.
but from the usability standpoint who cares? shure, faster is always better, but the difference is neglible (apart from the drop in battery life).
Symbian is quite snappy on "weak" hardware. i havent experienced any lag or slowness on nokias, Neither with the 5800 or the e71.
N900 would be my choice if it was AT&T 3G compatible. I have my company with AT&T and can't afford another set of "primary" charges to move to T-mobile alone.
Bought the N97 and returned it a few days later. Not incredibly bad, but enough bad to send it back.
Don't see the point of the mini. Will be more expensive than its big brother for a few months, and that will kill it dead I think. I thought the d-pad was the only thing that made navigating on the big 97 comfortable. Without it I wouldn't even consider this version.
Shame, I like Nokia, and love my E71.
n-ninety-who?
six-hondo what?
yea.... no thanks
So pay more money for this over the n97 with better/more features? Moreover, it's even more than the n900..let me think on that...NO THANKS!
Let's be honest here Droid is on Verizon, Verizon gonna lock that down. Nokia is pretty much open and not tied to any carrier so it's much more free.
The thing about Maemo when compared to Android is Maemo (by default) is more geeky than Android. I mean you have a root terminal by default..not sure your average consumer would even know what that is. Android is more user friendly imo. It's like comparing Ubuntu to Debian
I don't think you've even tried Maemo 5 as no device is even out yet, so assessments like that are completely worthless.
Don't need to try it, I've seen enough hands-on videos and screenshots.
Ever hear about that frog in a slowly heated pan? Here's one.
Nokias business model " lts saturate the market with our own devices , and shoot ourselves in the foot"
Giving users the option to pick whatever they want instead of just offering one model that might not fit everyone, and swarming the models with new stuff constantly instead of having customers sit on the fence for a few months awaiting the next release seems to be working, actually.
$667 holy sh!!
No thanks I'd rather buy a $99 iPhone here in America. Am I idiot for that ?
iPhone kills 6 birds with 1 stone it replacses iPod touch, gps, gaming device , reader , netbook. Pocket video cam ,.n more.
funny how you threw e-reader, netbook, and pocket video cam in there.....
I think you should research and re-evaluate. Pronto?
I think the answer is in your comment
Are you really that stupid?
The price quoted here is the actual price for the handset. unlocked, with no contract (and therefore no subsidies).
What does you 99$ iphone cost if you buy it directly from the manufacturer, unlocked, and ready to take any sim card you have?
And no, i am not a nokia fanboy (in fact i do also think that this thing will not be that big of a success), but this "the iphone is only 99$, everyone else can go home!!!eleven!!!" stupidity is getting on my nerves!
By nokia pricing these phone so high they should have no problem posting another $900 million loss.
"This is not the Droid you are looking for!"
Finland price, 550€ + 22% VAT. Nokia is way off.....
Lol
nokia fAnboys want me to get a nokia $670 plus pay $30 for 3g data here in USA. After 2 Years of data already at $720. Not even include minutes. No thanks. I'll trust my judgement.
Actually....you do not have to pay 30 a month for data. ATTs $30 data plan only applies to "ATT certified" smartphones...which the n97 clearly is not.
I have ATT and pay for the $10 a month plan. No trickery either....I walked in showed them my phone I got the plan.
This is what the N97 should have been instead if the godawful brick that it was.
The Mini's actually a nice phone.
agree, N97 Mini is a re-try of what N97 should & could be;
but, no, price is not what it needs to be now.
N900 Mini please? Nokia, pretty please? I'm sure Conan O' Brien will visit you there in Finland if you give us an N900 Mini.
Let me see now, Nokia, cannot produce a decent N97 and now they want to rip people off with a Mini. The Gall of some companies!
Well I got me a n97 mini yesterday, and it's gr8 :) Very happy with it. Doesn't seem to be any bugs. Software all works OK. Kinetic scrolling, apps - plus a keyboard that's pretty good for its size.
