I dunno, Windows 7 has been out for what, a week now, and so far I haven't heard about it deleting users files by itself or having slow flash playback.
But hey you know, there's only already more people using Windows 7 than snow kitten.
Actually, Windows 7 has been out really since August, if not the RC in June and I've heard more complaints from friends and co-workers about snow leopard in its short life than I've heard about 7, which I've been using for almost a year now (Since Feb)
The only thing I have heard people complain about windows 7 is some people are having issues with wireless USB keyboards when they do a new install on their old PC... but then again humans are pretty stupid so when you ask them when's the last time they changed their batteries on their keyboards and mice their like maybe a year or two ago?
Wow, you missed the point on your own reply. The fact that we can have Win7 on a $200 Netbook and have Flash work as well, if not better, than your $1500 machine is a Win for 7. The fact that you dont even have the option to own a Mac Netbook is a lose for you buddy.
*Goes back to his Win7 Dell X300 (yup, that old) that runs smooth as butter.
Actually I had windows 7 installed on machine since the release of beta. Then when RC came out I put it on my desktop and my brand new laptop, because I knew that Windows 7 was rock solid!
The only time I've ever had ANY issues with windows 7, was I got a blue screen of death. However this was caused because I was slowly overclocking my GPU and windows told me exactly when it was time "to stop" And guess what? No lost data during that crash! Amazing isn't it?
Remeber though Miles, all those ads say that "Macs just work" so that means we all ought to believe those ads eh?
A Windows 7 machine can't delete the files itself when the user can't get it to install on the computer in first place, or it goes into an endless reboot loop or the user doesn't understand and deletes their own data doing a clean install.
If your going to latch onto a story about something like the guest account thing that won't effect more than a small percentage of the people that went in and turned it on in the first place then you have to own up to all the problems that Windows 7 installs are having at the moment.
And before you say it, no I am not an Apple fan, I am have been using MS operating systems for 25+ years and just upgraded our homes two Vista desktops and an XP desktop to Windows 7 and I really think its a great operating system. Best Windows yet is really true in this case. But from every article I have read and every post from anyone that isn't an easily spotted Apple hater OS X is an amazing OS also.
Guys, we shouldn't feed a troll like Miles. It's pretty clear he's an idiot. He's the type that will eat anything that Apple gives him and proclaim it to the world as the best thing ever. You know, the typical tech-illiterate noob in a fanboy's clothing. The only way they make Apple look good is by making Windows look bad. Blind allegiance.
Do us all a favor. Login using your guest account and watch the magic happen.
Don't get me wrong man, OSX is a solid OS, up until Snow Leopard. As has been pointed out by many people, Snow Leopard is Apple's Vista. Which is really quite sad seeing as Apple basically broke Leopard. Apple, it's fans, and others all know Snow Leopard is Leopard. And Apple broke it for $30.
Before someone goes off saying Microsoft broke XP with Vista let me point out that going from XP to Vista was a complete different OS. It's not the same as going from Leopard to Snow Leopard. They are the same.
Snow Leopard deleting users files by itself is completely different than having issues installing 7. Any installation of Snow Leopard can delete a users file if they use a guest account. Sure there may only be a tiny percentage using a guest account, but that doesn't mean that anybody who is not aware of the problem can't turn the guest account on. Only a small percentage of the millions of people installing Windows 7, however, have run into issues. Once Windows 7 installs, there isn't another chance for a user to run into a Windows install issue, where as Snow Leopard could destroy any users data.
I have not personally heard of any issues of people installing 7, at all - unless they are using a Mac. This doesn't mean that people aren't having issues, I'm sure there's someone out there trying to install 7 on a machine designed for Windows 95. What it does mean though is that Apple has had months to get ready for Windows 7, and they have failed. If they want to say that you can run Windows on a Mac, then they need to be prepared for it.
You do realize that Snow Leopard doesn't delete anything, or are you too busy hating Apple? The guest account bug is an inconvenience, but not permanent, it only break file associations, and there is a simple command line fix for it.
As far as 7 is concerned, I think it is a vast improvement over Vista, but it has had its problems also. Apparently you didn't spend anytime on the internet for a day or two after release. Nearly every copy downloaded by students failed to install properly. In fact it wouldn't even unpack itself to begin the install.
Every computer has its' problems, I have been running Snow Leopard since release day with no problems, same for my two roommates.
I just don't like the flaming that goes on at this board. Its a gadget site, not a Microsoft site or a Windows site, there are plenty of places to go and get that. I'm a Windows user and I have been since 3.0 at least and have always run both the consumer line and the NT line until they merged. There isn't a release of windows since the mid to late 80's that I haven't run including the base server versions without getting into the enterprise level software and specialty servers.
I read every single article that comes across this site and most of the comments. I can definitely tell that the flame ratio is about 70% Windows users flaming every single thing that Apple makes and even flaming Apple in non-Apple related articles were it makes absolutely no sense at all. Compared to the 30% that Apple users bash Windows, Windows Mobile and the Zune or Zune HD when it launched. The users are not the people that are messed up. They are not personally accountable for what Apple does, not unless you are volunteering to be personally responsible for everything Microsoft does. I've read so many posts here where someone posts that they have both systems and use both and think highly of both, and they get flamed as being stupid for liking the Apple system too.
I have had more problems that have caused endless reboot loops, having to restore from backups or just being screwed and having to wipe and reinstall during my time using windows just by problems with the Windows OS itself than with all the 3rd party software and drivers I have ever used combined. Updates that crashed the system, fixes that broke more than they repaired, fresh installs that came up and blue screened the first three or four times they were installed then magically working fine from then on out on very much trusted hardware configurations. Windows is very, very far from perfect but I use it anyways because it does the tasks I need it to do and it is required by my work.
But I don't hate Windows for it or bash it, and I don't come here for an endless stream of comments that are often so damn lame they are the equivalent of ......uhhh ...yeah ...well.... your mom!...
@Miles: I'm going to bring over a mat to your place so you can tap out. You got annihilated, and deserved every bit of it. If it weren't for that last sentence, I'm sure your comment would go un-hated.
I honestly have to disagree. I would say a more accurate ratio is 60/40 in favor of the Mac fans. To say that Windows users flame in an Apple related post is very accurate, but the same is guilty of Apple users in a Windows related post.
I think the reason you'll find so much flaming on the site is because Windows users never claimed their OS was perfect. Some do, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Most Apple users, by nature, make compromises in order to defend their OS to no end. Again, there are exceptions to the rule, just what I have come across on this site.
But I think you'll find that most Windows users take the opportunity to just poke fun at Mac users when something goes wrong. Hell, they had their fun with Vista. I really think you'll find that most Windows could give 2 shi*s about whether someone uses Mac or PC. It's not some deep rooted hatred that makes Windows users despise everything that is Mac by nature. It's a breath of fresh air that takes the smug Mac owners (not saying they all are!) down a peg or two and puts them back on planet earth. Their hardware and OS are no longer invincible.
Sony's just released a 15.5-inch addition to its VAIO S Series that not only adds a crucial bit of extra display acreage, but also bumps things up to a full 1080p.

It's a software issue probably.
Snow Leopard just has a few kinks to work out.
At least it has a lot less than Windows 7.
I dunno, Windows 7 has been out for what, a week now, and so far I haven't heard about it deleting users files by itself or having slow flash playback.
But hey you know, there's only already more people using Windows 7 than snow kitten.
Windows 7 has been gold for months now.
And what a clever name, did it take you all night with your slow ass Win 7 netbook to make it up?
Actually, Windows 7 has been out really since August, if not the RC in June and I've heard more complaints from friends and co-workers about snow leopard in its short life than I've heard about 7, which I've been using for almost a year now (Since Feb)
Snow leopard is shaping up to be apple's vista
@Miles
Nope, probably his Macbook overheating, locking up, or deleting his data...if he were using a Win7 netbook, he would have none of those problems!

Yeah, I've heard of the air.
The real question is: Do we care?
Hey miles: $2,000 =/= netbook.
Also, it's "you're".

Macs do "just work". I've never had problems with shitty drivers or slow-ass performance like on Windows 7.
