Nintendo DSi XL coming to America in Q1 2010
Since Europe and Japan can't have all the fun -- unless, of course, it's a black Nintendo Wii -- the super-sized DSi XL is also due out in the US sometime in Q1 2010, according to a spokesperson speaking with Joystiq. Still no word on price, but we wouldn't be surprised if it parallel the slight markup for the ¥20,000 / US $221 Japanese version. Looks like that smaller-screen version isn't looking so hot for Grandma's Christmas present anymore.

I kinda want one.. Is that wrong?
I think so dude, why would anyone need this? Has anyone actually ever thought "damn i wish my ds was slightly larger so i could look like more of a douche"? I dont think so.
My ds lite became the corner stone of my dust collection a long long time ago :)
Golden Sun. Nuff said.
Damn, I wish my DS was slightly larger so I could look like more of a douche.
i take it Gamecube games go in the top and SNES games go in the bottom?
Don't forget HeartGold/SoulSilver =3
Have they actually upped the resolution or is it just the same but larger screen?
I'll stick with my DS Lite for now... at least i can still run the OLD Golden Suns!
@The Young
If all your DS lite is doing is collecting dust, why don't you send it my way. I'd love to have one, even if it would make me look like a douche.
I'd consider the PSP to take the crown for most Douchetacular device. Sold my DS for a PSP a while ago and am regretting it every day, the DS has a much better library of games.
You're crazy duggy expecting your gaming device to have good games. What good is a portable device if it's doesn't make you look cool?
JESUS FREAKING CHRIST!!!!! THAT THING IS HUGE!!! no way am i getting that unless they add a gba slot
@Snelpiller
True it's just a bigger screen and a HUGE stylus. And most of you are asking; "Why would I pay for this?" The reason my friends is simple....because you're not supposed to. If you're on this site you're the wrong demographic for this new version of DS. The DSi XL is made specifically for Japanese senior citizens. They can barely see or hear...but they want to game on the go. Bigger screen, huge stylus, bigger speakers...Perfect! They're also the fastest growing Wii consumer in the US. I'm 26 and have an awesome DS Lite (the best model by far) and don't own a Wii. My parents (over 65) have a wii. My grandma (85) has a Wii. It makes perfect sense doesn't it?
I think the smaller one will still sell better. I'd rather have a pocket-sized game than a purse-sized one. Then again, I'd rather not spend $200 on somethings I'll never use either. I could just buy a Wii for the same price, or more realistically a few 360 games.
Or an iPhone!
or you know...you could just get that purse you've always wanted
How did you know!
Exactly, since when is a larger portable device a good thing?
Now that I know what portable games are going to be out in the near future I can firmly support my purchase of the PSP GO.
Quiet, Straw-me.
iPhone. meh. at least with a DS you get real games with buttons and you dont have to pay out the ass every month.
Hmm.. somewhat ironic considering
a) iPod touch exists for.. you know.. people who don't want ATT
b) Nintendo DS games cost 5-10X what OS X iPhone games cost
How many DS games do you buy every month?
My favorite game is Acekard 2i. It's the only one I want.
@mike, any sensible person just downloads roms, having any game they want at their disposal, and the ipod touch isnt necessarily for people who dont want ATT. It's for people who want... you know an ipod.
@mike
You keep buying games each month cuz none of them are worth playing for more than a week.
Regular blog readers are ACTUALLY comparing games from the DS to the likes of those in an iPhone?
And I thought fanboyism couldn't get any worse. Where is the logic?!
iPhone sans expensive contract = iPod Touch, there goes that argument, yawn. Atleast with the iPhone you have almost unlimited access to fun, fresh and creative indie games almost anywhere, anytime for a fraction of a DS game and without a crappy DSiware points system. Oh a new DS game, oh wait its only the 3000th installment of Mario. Oh here's one, oops nope Zelda #182, dang it. Well I guess it's between Quick Brain, Train Your Brain, Hand Eye Exercise 3, Barbie's Ultimate Fun Land 48, Pop Princess Sing Your Heart Out, or Pokemon Gold or Diamond. Besides if I wanted to play a 50hr game I will play it on my ginormous HD screen with a proper controller, not some tiny hand cramping, eye straining portable. I want something fun and quick to pick up and put down when I'm on the go.
@High:
You must really be high if you think any games on the iPhone scratch the surface of a great Pokémon, Mario, Zelda, OR EVEN Brain Age.
It's called HANDHELD, or PORTABLE GAMING SYSTEM, to, you know, take it with you somewhere so you don't get bored. They've been popular since the Game&Watch times, since you can't play your precious Blu-Ray PS3 in the middle of a train ride, or go on your XBOX Live to kick some ass while waiting in your doctor appointment.
I think congress should take a look at this, it is a money printing machine after all.
Printing money doesn't magically solve a trillion-dollar debt. It reduces the value of the dollar, and then you can't travel anywhere cuz it's too expensive.
^ Hahaha, He doesn't know the image reference Angelofwar is referring to (:
Lumberjack, all you have to do is put your wealth into real assets or currencies that aren't being devalued. Buy a house and some stock.
Inflation is just a huge tax on poor people, which is a way to make up for progressive taxation that soaks the rich. Big spenders are actually hurting the 'disadvantaged' far more than they are helping them... it's those who own major assets and investments that will be far richer ten years from now.
Oh, and I think smaller DS = Better. Same for PSP. Always thought the PSP was too big and the DS was the right size.

For the ignorant.
Actually, I think the DSi is too big as it is.
Shit sucks.
The future of the Nintendo DS...Nintendo DSiaeou XXXL Ultra Slim HD Super Deluxe.
You forgto Chrome Edition. That's the latest model.
Lite.
What in the world is that stylus? It had better come with a couple colors of pens inside.
What's the point? Sony makes a smaller overpriced PSP so Nintendo's rebuttal is an oversized overpriced DSi?
hehe, adorable, you think this is about the abysmal PSP?
*ahem Cupertino? 30,000 title library?
Mike:
Ahem, Cupertino, 30 000 title library.
Around 40 of which aren't crappy tetris clones.
And herein lies the craft..
For $221 you could get a Dell Mini or an eeepc, and it wouldn't be that much larger than the DSi XL.
But You can't play pokemans .. well actually might be able to through emulation.
I don't think its processor would be able to handle that emulation.
XL is not phat enough for me
am i the ONLY one who notices the grotesque size of the stylus?!
Nope, not the only one.
The PSP Go gets gets flak for being the same old thing repackaged....
How big compared to my huge original DS?
I dont understand releasing this so soon after the DSi either. the DS lite is perfect. fits in the pocket, isnt too small, great battery life...this looks like a monstrosity.
And its sort of ironic that the new big screen will be even more obscured by the new big stylus isnt it? is that supposed to be a pocket rocket?
