As a long time iPhone user, I will tell you how to compete with the iPhone! Customization is the key. We should have: -custom ringtones for calls, sms, and mms. -custom video ringtones -contiuous custom themes -the option to put an animated/video background on the home screen -a bigger capitive touch screen at 480x800 (preferably similar to HD2) -a keyboard -a better battery then 1500mAh -512 ram -bulit in 16GB or 32GB rom -dual xeon flash -8 mp with 480x800 video record -front video camera -wi-fi N -cool flashy color indicator lights -the option to install to Symbian, Windows Mobile, or Andriod!
You add all the specs and I promise you I will jump ship! I'll be honest, I don't plan on ditiching my iPhone but I'll surely use this phone along with my iPhone on AT&T.
Unfortunately, you missed the biggest "spec" to match: price. Unless Nokia takes a hit on each phone, or AT&T does some serious subsidies, Nokia will have a hard time making that phone (speaking from a specification standpoint, not customization) and having it sell at the same price point(s) as the iPhone.
Apple has already done a lot to lower the (perceived) price of smartphones, and the masses will look at the prices and nearly always pick the iPhone.
All you have listed is on the N900 (except xenon flash), release date anyday soon. Almost everything except the keyboard has been on every s60 series since 2005
jdechko you are not making sense. If you are talking about USA only point taken, but only phone from N or E series that's more expensive than iphone 3GS is the old E90 when it came out. N97 and N900 are cheaper via contract here in Germany and those two are Nokias flagships.
If iphone have done something with priceys it's the horrible lock to carrier that we have been mostly free in Europe to the picture again. It's just saddens me that still people don't understand the real priceys of their phones.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
