iPhone and Windows 7 don't play nice, Intel P55 chipset to blame
The iPhone is one of the most wildly popular phones the world has ever seen, while Windows 7 is well on its way to becoming the globe's most ubiquitous OS. So compatibility between the two would be kinda sorta important, right? Tell that to Intel's quality control team who seem to have somehow missed an issue between Apple's app carrier deluxe and the P55 Express chipset's USB controller. Consistent (and persistent) syncing issues have been reported on Apple's support forums, wherein iTunes on Windows 7 machines recognizes the iPhone, but spits out an "error 0xE8000065" message whenever the user attempts to sync. While some have found limited success with using PCI-based USB cards (and bypassing the chipset), this is clearly a major issue and something Apple would expect to be fixed before shipping its Core i5 / i7 iMacs, which are likely to sport the chipset. Hit the read link for the original thread of sorrow and regret, and do chime in with your own experience in the comments.

iPhone is too good for Windows machines, duh!
Acutally, i think what they're trying to say say is "iPhone is crap "
Windows doesn't like Apple trash like the iPhone being used on it.
Its not about windows or apple, its INTEL
but yet again everybody and their momma have one..
Wow..they just gave a big middle finger to the iPhone. Uh oh spaghetti-o's!
PS. All the fanboys should really stop and read brandon's comment. That way this thread won't be full of facepalm. =I
its Apples Fault for not making sure the drivers play nice on Intel's p55 chipset on windows 7
@N900 Good advice. Sadly, it was a little late - This thread is all sorts of /facepalm right now. :(
I love how everyone takes time to read the article. . . . .
@Jason you're an iDiot !!! Read the freakin' article before you post
some ignorant fanboi crap!!
Perhaps the article title should have been simply "iPhone and Intel P55 chipset don't play nice" to help the hard-of-understanding...
Or Windows doesn't want to be contaminated with Apple's horseshit app that is iTunes.
Jeez, It's simple:
Dell is paying Apple not to release Windows 7 for the iPhone, and Intel are suing Nokia!
It's always Intel.
Not a Windows problem. I've been using my iPhone with Windows 7 for quite some time, with no issues whatsoever.
Ridiculous.....
this is excellent, I don't like intel or apple
iTunes not syncing with iPhone on Windows… Sounds familiar!
This whole syncing issue seems suspiciously familiar… wasn’t Apple going to great length to prevent a certain Palm Pre smart phone from syncing with iTunes… And isn’t the Palm Pre a Windows device? And wasn’t Apple also going to great lengths working on breaking iTunes syncing capabilities using the Windows USB ports? I don’t know, but it seems like the chicken is coming home to roost. I just find this whole thing ironic.
Um, did you not read the post? It's an Intel motherboard issue. idiot.
Update your Intel Chipset Device Software with the -OVERALL flag to fix the problem. Try Version: 9.1.1.1015 or later.
@Thinker
That's a load of horse crap. First, the Palm Pre is a WebOS device, not a "Windows" device. Second. Apple hasn't tried to block the iPhone from synching over Windows USB ports (whatever that's supposed to mean). Windows USB ports are the same thing as Mac USB ports. The problem here is not Apple trying to break syncing, and its not poorly coded windows, this is a problem with Intel's board.
Wait, so if you installed XP on those machines it would work?
This isn't limited to one motherboard.
I've got a nForce 750a board and I've got similar problems.
I have this same problem on my Core i7 hackintosh. Rarely, I can get the iPhone to sync to iTunes using the built-in chipset. Once it connected and took FOREVER to transfer the data, which gave me an idea: I put a USB 1.1 hub on one of the ports and connected the iPhone that way. IT WORKED! Slow as s--t, but it worked.
@ xbit:
No one ever said it was limited to one motherboard. It is the P55 chipset that is causing problems and it could be on a lot of motherboards designed to work with i7. Your board probably has it.
AMD FTW!!
@cmsb55
Sorry, should have said chipset rather than motherboard.
My motherboard uses the (AMD-based) nForce 750a chipset and I have the same problems.
I just upgraded my PC to a core i5 on a P55 MB and have had no problems when syncing my 3g. Perhaps the problem is intel MB's and not the chipset.
That seems like a major fail for Dell. Most people would certainly rather have an iPhone than a Dell that doesn't allow an iPhone to sync with iTunes. Hopefully they'll just recall all those Dells and send them to India, where people can't afford iPhones (or food).
i bet Palm Pre works just fine! Gee why would iPhone break USB so badly???? Maybe Apple isn't following the USB best practices either, after all isn't USB just USB?
LOlz
exactly, screw apple dont fix it
OMGZ
I loathe acronyms.
It's technically not an acronym, unless you say it as Lawl, or Ohmguz.
@Mike (cc: HotDog)

They were acronyms. Lawl and Ohmguz are not.
Hotdog, ILA?
i've been using win7 for about 2 months and have a 3GS. I haven't had an issue.
Did you try reading the article.
Uhh I read the article and I'm not getting it.
I have Windows 7
I have the iPhone 3GS
I have had NO (I REPEAT NO) ISSUES between them.
Not sure about this chipset business and if it's a newer one or something but until some elaborates I'm afraid this article and all the people bitching at those of us simply saying they've had no issues are just crying over nothing.
so you read it... it's just your comprehension skillz that suck?
P55 chipset bro... that's the new stuff from intel that runs core i5/i7.
If don't understand a topic keep your mouth shut so no one things you're an idiot -- now it's too late and you've removed all doubt -- twice.
Perhaps the article title should have been simply "iPhone and Intel P55 chipset don't play nice" to help the hard-of-understanding...
it's not that the title is hard to understand, it's that it's blatently untrue when taken at face value, and doesn't match the article's point
I haven't had a problem with my iphone and Windows 7 at all.....
Again did you try reading the article.
I have an iPhone 3G, P55 Intel motherboard with Core i7 and onboard USB controller and have no issues syncing with iTunes under Windows 7.
Perhaps the article title should have been simply "iPhone and Intel P55 chipset don't play nice" to help the hard-of-understanding...
HAH, I updated to iTunes 9.0.2 (from 9.0.1) and now my iPhone won't sync. So much for the "blame Intel" theory.
You really should tell engadget about that (not sure if they read comments), then they can post it as an update and apple might see that it's their fault so it can be fixed quicker.
@LondonConsultant
Perhaps you shouldn't repeat the same sh*t multiple times on the same page?
