I bought an iPhone last Saturday. I came home, activated the iPhone through iTunes (Windows 7), and it told me new firmware was available. I pressed the update button, iTunes said everything was going smoothly, only to give me an error halfway through the process, bricking my new phone. :(
Luckily, the T-Mobile people told me how to fix it, but still, what the hell Apple?
Did that with my ipod touch two weeks ago. Its something to do with itunes. I had to take my ipod touch back. I opened the box and the first thing I did was to check for new firmware. Started to update and 3 minutes later it was broken. I wasn't impressed.
T-Mobile does not exist in only the US. Hell, it's owned by a German company (Deutsche Telekom). Visit T-Mobile's German site and you will see that they indeed carry the iPhone, so perhaps Bas is from Germany.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

It didn't brick your phone. You could recover it.
