DROID headed to Germany as Motorola MILESTONE (update: Italy too, no Google Maps Navigation)
O2 Germany has confirmed a GSM version of the DROID for Europe going by the name of the Motorola MILESTONE. The news comes courtesy of a sliver of O2's online store page that left itself exposed to the wiles of Google, complete with the above picture and the new moniker, and follows close on the heels of a leaked business guide which says the MILESTONE will retail for €404.20 to corporate customers, and will be available as of November 9th.
Update: It's now official on the Motorola Germany (and english language Western Europe) website where it lists Vodafone and O2 as local carriers. Italy now too, on an unspecified carrier. Oh, and it also lists "pinch and zoom" as a feature not found on the Droid. See for yourself after the break. It's carrying a public price tag of €481.
Update 2: As noted by a few readers, Milestone will ship with MOTONAV turn-by-turn directions, not Google's Maps Navigation.

So UK announcement tomorrow to steal some of SE X10 thunder? Hopefully I can FINALLY get an order in for an Android 2.0 phone this week :)
You won't be able to order one this week.
Just because a phone has been announced, that doesn't mean it's available to order.
I can just remove that 'MOTONAV' from the phone and install google map navigation right?
No, because Google map navigation relies on Street View GPS data for cartography. Street View coverage is only significant enough in the US.
Goodness! How many phones does O2 want? They've got the iPhone, Pre and now the Droid/Millstone!
in germany it's t-mobile that has the iPhone, not o2
Do we know if this is still a "WITH GOOGLE" phone?? It is really strange how they are segmenting this.
More important .. How can we get the Google Nav software on there .. am so not into the MotoNav thing .. :(
Not at all. Google doesn't have their own maps for Europe (yet), and their license agreement with Tele Atlas doesn't include turn-by-tun navigation.
I would think that there will be some way to get U.S. Android 2.0 on here as its basically the same hardware.
I really hope it comes to france on november 10th ...
24 hours too much still
Please note.
The german Droid (Milestone) is NOT a "with google" Mobile.
Motonav is only 6 Weeks for free, after 6 weeks you have to pay up to 79 Euros / Year.
No 16GB Card, only 8GB Class/4 Card with the navigation maps for Motonav on it.
ok..but if you imported it to the US, is it possible to get google maps navigation on it?
It is available with pre-order in the german shop of o2. 20€ Monthly Fee.
