'Endless Racing Game' iPhone demo video isn't endless, is endlessly entertaining

[Thanks, Lena]

"Satisfied" iPhone 3GS owners
Of 200 iPhone 3GS users polled in August, 2009, 99 percent termed themselves "satisfied," with 82 percent saying they were "very satisfied."

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I detect epic amounts of win in this sector
It's rated 2 stars out of 5 with more than 200 ratings so far... not looking good.
Too bad, the graphics look good and I would love to have a real, bird's eye view racing game like that. Burnin' Rubber, anyone?
Lame game.
Can I turn the phone to portrait mode and play it like Spy Hunter?
90 seconds of my life I wish I had back.
@ Justin Cohen
You just wasted about as much time commenting about wasted time.
@ Jean-Michel Decombe
No, Rock N Roll racing trumps all... end of story
@ Justin Cohen
And it was 97 seconds long ...
You must've missed the last 7 seconds where they tell you about their great warranty.
The game you're looking for is High Speed Chase 2
@ ted1056
I agree. It's overdue for a remake.
"The stage is set, the green flag drops!"
32 iPod Touches @ $200 a pop and the time needed to program and sync everything. That was a small investment.
Cool commercial, though.
It was four touches. Still, $800 is quite a wad for this - great concept, but destined to go the way of Crystal Chronicles.
I'm pretty sure they're not iPods.
Car insurance commercial...not a game.
It is actually a game sponsored by an insurance company. Search for "Endless Racing Game" on the App Store.
nope, its a game.. by a car insurance company...
http://appadvice.com/app/334423064
Admit it. "We're not going to bore you with details..." should actually read "We don't have the details..."
so basically you could say "my insurance company supports reckless driving"
wow... didn't knowcar insurance companies can endorse this type of unskilled driving.... better for their business I guess.
And I have to agree that this one must make the fanbois smile.
@darkmax - Your comment only reveals how little you know about how insurance actually works.
@jbulava
Welcome to engadget.
This will crack open that "I own a dozen iphones" niche market.
I was thinking for a second that owning 12 iPhones might increase 3G performance... if you could somehow pool the signal strength.
Then I remembered what happens when you multiply by "0."
Sisyphus wins.
I'm so glad I read the comments for this post. Sisyphus++
You really only need like 3, cuz you can keep putting the first one at the end. So if you have 2 friends with iPhones, then you're all set.
You need two iPhones 3G to play the game and build a long racing track. And the game has a single-player mode, which is quite simple. You can watch the game demo on YouTube, if you click a button at the end of the video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpmgolVi9A4
It's a clever advergame, using the new peer-to-peer technology of iPhone. I think the Next Level video just shows opportunities of this technology. The game action can jump from iPhone to iPhone. And each switch can open a new level with new features.
It was worth it
Sorry, but I hope there's a mail-in rebate for the 90 seconds of my life I just lost watching that. (I'll eat the 20 seconds it took for me to bitch about it here.)
Back during my 8-bit days, BDS C (I think those are the ones) under CP/M had a racing game that worked on character terminals similar to this.
ZZZzzz...
Looks like the OJ simpson car chase....
You saw a car chase?
I thought that was a parade.
Driving to work on a Saturday morning.
This is pretty clever. Do you set the phones in an order to begin with, and then just move the last to the front?
ok I need another 10 iphones
Unless I've completely missed the point, how would this work on a single phone?
Yes, you've completely missed the point.
it doesn't, however you are correct in assuming you are indeed missing the point.
Ok, sorry for being slowpoke but this IS a game.... riiiiiiiight? Which would only work if you had multiple phones?
Er... it's cool an all but doesn't anyone see my point??? :oS
hehe, you said slowpoke...
http://media.photobucket.com/image/slowpoke/omfgonfire/slowpoke.jpg
if your point is that this app has no practical value, and no value whatsoever in the context of a single phone, and is only a tech demo, then yep, i see your point.
@a: Much more elequently put. Thank you!
It is single player... and its more of a proof of concept than anything. I personally applaud them for their creativity.
Congress will never support a single-player system
That was pretty cool.
Clever- but I will never need to watch it again.
Like @cjwild said this is an insurance commercial. Virj Verzekerd sells insurance, not games.
indeed they dont - that's why the game is for free
apple and the iphone sucks, so who cares
Then y r u reading news about apple? :D (just kidding)
Come on Tim, this a cool looking video. Picture this happening on the Milestone or the HD2. It is possible. The iPhone is just an example of this. Don't let your fanboyism get in the way of advancing application usability man. =\
f*ck off you absolutely boring predictable child....
everyday i get closer to not reading engadget because of this tiresome, and pointless crap...
all it does is remind me how many teenage virgins are reading this with me...
aren't we all here because we celebrate technology?
if you must pick a "side" pick one.. why bother fighting the other? who gives a flying f*ck what you think???
what difference do you make?
@omegamale
Thanks for that. I was thinking the same thing. Who gives a shit what OS [or any other gadget] someone uses, why would it bother you personally?
We're all gadget geeks, let's just all get along!
If this is actually a game and not a pre-made video, this is amazing. How would they actually do it? Connect all those iPhones over bluetooth?!?
Probably not real, but still entertaining.
phones are connected via bluetooth and make use of the accelerometers in the phones...
http://appadvice.com/app/334423064
The first game Apple created.... As in force you to by mutiple itouches or iPhones.... ^_^
The old TrickTrack from the 60's toy was cheeper...
Another pointless iPhone application...
Your jealousy and bitterness sustains us.
Really? How is that bitter or jealous? Who has 5 or 6 iPhones that this could be used on?
Those bitter tears... yummy.
@k4m1k4z3: I have about 7 good friends (2 of them I live with) with iPhones who I could convince to download a free game.
Convincing them to loan me their phones for half an hour while I use the phones to play a one-player game may be more difficult.
Amazing video - I'm downloading the app right now.
useless bullshit.
Ok, it's a free game for 20 iPhones.
bluetooth has finally realized its potential!
For those that "don't get it", allow me to explain: There is an "i" in iphone. The iphone is centered around the individual. Its about being creative, productive, and most of all...being unique.
So a game like this makes sense. All you need is 10 unique individuals. 10 unique individuals with the same handset, with the same boring UI, all chanting the same "iphone rules" mantra. After all, iphone is the ultimate expression of sheepism.
iSeewhatyoudidthere
I don't get why so many people are bitching about it - it's a one of a kind game / application, very original idea - and I for one will try it tomorrow when I meet up with my friends.
It seems more than anything you're just bitching at the iPhone, and doesn't that in a sense equivalate to the fanboyism you speak so condescendingly of?
I always took the "i" to mean "internet." But I suppose I would be stuck in the intentional fallacy of Apple's internal marketing team. You should be a product label theorist man! I never thought about the "i" pertaining to the "individual!" I've got a whole new outlook on the world of consumer electronics!
Your comment make sense too, expressing the ultimate sheepism in hating anything about Apple. Go sheep!
what would be really cool and not geeky at all would be to have an iphone party just to play this game. you could serve punch.
Shoot, wish I new another person with an iPhone, then we could play this game together.
you needed a long table for that :P
Reminds me of the 1st-gen Spyhunter by Sunsoft. Sans the boathouse, oil slick and smoke-screen.
iDon't see anyone else trying to do any better.
If it's so much bullshit, make your own game and show us what you got.
Till then STFU.
Good idea though, now add some guns and some cops, and you got a GTA game, haha.
My favorite was the block-long limo with the hot tub in the middle.
the soccer game where you can aim toward your opponents goal looks more impressive (at least in the commercial). Has anyone tried that yet?
I don't think the phones have any sense of the position of other phones near by so this has to be a pre-rendered video.
According to reviews on the app store, it does work (albeit not very well). Maybe you should actually get something to back up what you are saying instead of just making assumptions.
If you don't have anything on-topic to say, then don't say anything.
Reminds me of when we had a little character-based "airplane" fly across all the terminals in a U of I computer lab back in 1979. OK, maybe with better graphics :)

He crossed over the double yellow line. That's illegal. I'm telling. (calling the police on a landline.)
If they had an android version of this I'd just end up stuck in traffic the whole game.
Apparently no one else played GTA 1 & 2? This is quite obviously just video from one of those games, 'shopped onto iPhone screens.
Sorry, but KIRF...
Check out 00:25 into the game. The huge semi/gas tanker *comes out of nowhere* though there a connected iPhone.... Oh well...
If only the cops got there that fast after a crash in the Real World. lol
Cool, but not worth my time.
Recreate the OJ Simpson car chase with this?
