Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? Or better yet, when a
leaked roadmap doesn't get delayed in the slightest? After months upon months
of waiting, broadband-lovin' citizens in the North Carolina Triangle and Triad will be celebrating alongside DFW residents and Chicago natives as
Sprint's 4G WiMAX service rolls into town. As of right now (that's today, junior), consumers in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and Charlotte, NC; Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas and Chicago, Illinois can roll into a Sprint store and snag a
U300 3G / 4G WWAN modem on a $69.99 monthly data plan. We're told that San Antonio and Austin will get lit up later this month, while Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii; Salem, Oregon and Seattle, Washington will join the fray before 2010. Oh, and did we mention that Palm's favorite carrier finally snagged itself a WWAN-equipped
netbook? 'Cause the Dell Mini 10 is available starting today for $199.99 at select Sprint stores in the metropolitan Baltimore area.
Update: Looks like Sprint changed "Baltimore" to "Bay Area." Odd.

So how fast is their WiMAX service?
3-6mpbs with burst up to 10 mbps is what im legally allowed to say how ever clear's wimax stuff is uncapped so if your closer to a tower you can pull a LOT more....
~ clear wire sales guy =]
My parents still live in Raleigh and they still have DSL--where they live in Raleigh Bellsouth can only offer 1.5Mbps. My question is, can one get WiMax service for an entire household or would you have to pay for each connected device? In otherwords, would/could this service be used as a replacement for household internet service?
My father considered RR, but doesn't want to switch to Time Warner...
@rickjames
They have a Wimax desktop router that acts like any other cable/dsl modem (has an ethernet port in the back that goes to your router).
Also if someone in your family would like to be able to take the service mobile with them you could use a USB modem into one of the cradlepoint routers (takes the 3G/4G USB modem and turns it into a Wifi hotspot).
Where is the Los Angeles love from Sprint and WiMax?
Hopefully next year we'll see something in NYC.
Sweet, I got my Dell Mini 10 netbook and Blackberry Tour 9630 on Sprint, using PAM. Work great!
whats pam?
Phone As Modem
"Unlimited" data plan. I wonder if that means 5GB?
Yes, that is exactly what it means. 5GB capped.
So this is good for about, 2 days of normal internet use per month? Awesome!
Nope, Sprint's 4G is completely uncapped. No 5GB limit.
When you're in 4G coverage Data is Unlimited, While in 3G Coverage Data has a 5GB Cap.
So does this mean my phone will get faster data, or is this WiMAX stuff just for the broadband cards they sell? I'm using a Touchpro with Sprint...
I assume I won't see anything faster, as I don't have a 4G radio, but here's to hoping I'm wrong.
You can also go to www.clear.com for their plans.
If your device isn't 4G then NO it will NOT get faster on a 4G network. You need to have a 4G capable device.
i dont know about Raleigh because im based in chicago
but clear offers home modems as option for home internet just get one of those and use a wireless router and the whole house should be fine
but its more logical to get separate connection you save money.
Don't forget to add that anybody on a mac wanting to use the 4G card CANNOT. There is no way (trust me Ive tried using parallels) to activate this card, and sprint smartview is not compatible at all.
I think that is worth noting.
that's sooo lame, maybe fusion will work i would hate to resort to bootcamp
so where are these wimax routers that can be hotspots?
nevermind i found it

The U301 will be out before the end of the year and it has full Mac (snow leopard) support.
I can tell you Salem's seen the blue light with Sprint for at least the last few weeks. I can tell you because I'm on it. It's fast, but honestly, I'm finding the 4g off the usb stick is pretty unreliable, and they're throttling and booting if you're running utorrents during the day. Unfortunate really
U300 doesn't work on OSX?!

"Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?"
Yea, but you still ain't gettin' me on no plane, fool!
:)
Live in Philly as well.. There's actually an EL Train sitting at the Spring Garden station with "Clear" written over it and the first two cars are green. Would've taken a picture but I was on I95 when I saw it. Makes me wonder if Comcast's deal with Clearwire and Sprint will get me some of that lovin'
#1. This Blows for the people who purchase it because data is capped at 5GB
#2. My City has Citywide free WiFi and Free WIMAX coming soon http://web.miamibeachfl.gov/wifi/
#3. My $30 SERO plan with Tethering Rocks, no need for WiFi with tethering on Sprint and no 5GB cap
#4. I hope Congress and the FCC stop the horrible exclusive Netbook deals its all still in committee
Sorry WiMax doesn't exist until it arrives in a big city like New York or San Francisco where they have more than two customers.
Sorry, but people don't exist either unless they live in a big city.
Yea you're right no one lives in Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas-Ft Worth, Seattle, Atlanta, San Antonio, Baltimore, etc...
