Sprint touts Palm Pixi's nonexistent WiFi
Sprint has a time-honored tradition of screwing up its ads. Remember the Palm OS-powered (yes, Palm OS, not webOS) Motorola Q2? How about the Pre's mythical tethering capability? Here's a new one to add to the history books: the "WiFi capable" Pixi, yours for just $99.99 after mail-in rebate. Count us in.

If only it were true...
@ Ron
Adding line breaks doesn't increase my desire to read your post.
And this is ad is from sprint, not palm.
hey Ron i think your ego landed on your Enter key
Sprint please fix your Ad… I am sure you have received the message by now.
Ok, we know the Palm Pixi runs WebOS and can wirelessly connect to the web for a great surfing experience. And we know that you (Sprint) just gave us free mobile to mobile minutes – awesome!
Tip: Here is how you can fix your ad – replace “WIFI capable” with “Wireless Internet Capable”.
And for this tip, please give me a free Palm Pixi phone!
It Does Say its "WiFi Capable" Isnt that like getting a TV thats "HD Ready" ? Maybe it can have Wifi with some attachment or accoutrement of some sort? WiFi Capable to me means (as sly as it sounds) it dont have it but its capable of having it but it will need something to make it work. i.e a plug in or something like that..
Just Play Devils Advocate is all .. I Know they Screwed up lol
if only they were gsm enabled.
> ...Sprint please fix your Ad…...
They did.
That monkey. Please tell that's shopped. Please. That aint right
Nope, that monkey is the real deal.
Actually, it says "Tongue Crossed" on this ad. You never know..............
Yeah that monkey is more interesting than the phone itself. I wanna see more of the monkey cuz it's so awkward looking.
I thought it was a hamster...?
Chris, you've outdone yourself. I loled for a good 5 minutes at that monkey, and Sprint is really truly in the wrong/crazy this time.
I was think beakless owl...or a walking clock
F*ck the phone, I want that monkey!!!!
It's called a debrazza, http://www.giftsoftherainforest.com/images/DeBrazzas.jpg
I thought it wasnt for real, so i searched the net hehehe ....
It's the O RLY monkey.
Now we know what the "Farscape" design team based the Rygel puppet on...
Last minute hardware change?
bait and switch?
They have removed the Wi-Fi from the Sprint site.
When did it get 2 camera's
No wifi? Ouch, how'd I overlook that in the previous articles? That changes my entire opinion of this device. :\
shut the hell up...you act like you was going to buy the device in the first place. You people on engadget always complain about little stuff. I remember a cellphone was used to just call someone but now it needs to have a built in blu ray and a virus scanner for you to stop bitching. EAD!
I'm doomed to be forever avatarless. :(
I know! I hate it when they drop wifi off a smartphone, even though I do know its probably part of keeping the cost low, I'd definitely throw in that few dollars extra for wifi.
@deadlyx:
Blame Moore's Law..... or love it!
Screw the wifi, I need to memory card slot!
Me: So there is Wifi???
Sprint: FOUR G, G. That's the new wifi.
HUUUUGE touchscreen >.>???
Hey, they're already making stuff up, might as well go for broke.
I think they mean for the form factor. it's a very thin candybar style phone with a full keyboard and it still manages to have a decent sized screen.
still... I wouldn't call that screen huge. maybe if they said "one of the largest high-res screens in this form factor" or something along those lines.
"Another quality device from Palm... we really like Sprint"
cant image that GOOGLE NAVIGATION is available on these cheaper phones with wifi and GPS
How many rim devices have wifi? Very few so I see this is no biggy. Most consumers could care less.
Even though this is fairly cheap, I'm not sure people will like that it has no Wi-fi. Doesn't seem like any good reason to keep it out, esp considering even the Storm 2 now has Wi-fi.
No wi-fi is not a big deal. I've had a HTC Touch for 2 yrs and never missed it. Previous HTC 6700 had wi-fi but I never used it. 3G data has freed us from the restrictions of wi-fi hotspots. Embrace it.
Wrong-o. WiFi is MUCH faster than 3G and MUCH easier on battery life.
Please don't compare old WinMo phones with the ease of use of the current crop of smart phones. WiFi works, and it works very well!
front facing camera ? could be a wifi enabled hardware indeed.
probably not.. those are most likely just light sensors. another example of something like that are the 3 sensor "dots" on the front of an iphone.. they're just masked better.
So why are those missing in any other picture ?

Yeah, the Palm site doesn't have little lenses everywhere on front, either.
It would be interesting if there were more to this story than just another Sprint mistake.
That monkey is awesome.

so what type of monkey is it?
FACEPALM!
I hate the Wi-Fi on my phone. Sometimes it turns its self on for no apparent reason. On top of that I have used it all of once in 6 months.
Let me Guess: Touch Pro?
I had that happen on mine all the time, it just decided suddenly "let's turn on Wifi"
I want WebOS + WiFi on ATT. That is all.
RD Department: We have created a new model of cell phone, it has everything
CEO: Thats bad news, we need to screw it up, so customers will have a reason to upgrade or buy more expensive models later
RD Department: What should we remove? bluetooth to headset only and not the pc? Tethering for sure, We could make the camera suck, or not take video?
CEO: Sprinkle in a little of all it, oh yeah, remove the WIFI
That monkey is the funniest thing I have seen in the past week.
I bet the monkey have WiFi
The Pre can tether via USB and BT, and it doesn't cost anything extra on your plan, even the app itself is free, you can even turn it into a MiFi.

Maybe Palm came to their senses, and realized that Moto was releasing a similarly priced phone with WiFi on Verizon's network, and decided to change their specs?
Any word on SERO being compatible?
http://www.petitiononline.com/SERO/petition.html
"The fact of the matter is that Sprint is not making any money with SERO plans"
Poor wording aside, this petition seems to asking Sprint to lose money. One should probably feel lucky that Sprint even offers a SERO plan. But greed knows no bounds, I suppose.
That petition is horribly written. If anything, it should say something like "We were lured to Sprint with a plan that was then discontinued. We were then informed that any and all Sprint exclusive smartphones would not be compatible on our plan. This is the ultimate bait and switch and is wrong, we were never informed that we would have to stick to basic phones and that we would be blacklisted from the new phones Sprint advertises."
not the nonsense it actually says. It is fucked up of Sprint.
That would be great if this comes true, but I imagine it was a mistake. I was tempted to get one until I found out it was lacking wifi. Glad I went with a Moment instead, its an amazing phone.
All decent smartphones have WiFi, it would be a weird decision if this one didn't.
I thought it was sprint company policy now that all new smartphones have wifi built in anyways
Completely useless until it's released on a real network like Verizon. It's just a matter of time until Sprint goes out of business.
"Run multiple apps smoothely and seamlessly"
lol ok, because the Pixi doesn't absolutely crawl at 3 cards....
So now they've edited the ad, but deleted the GPS reference too? Panic mode, indeed.
