HTC HD2 officially coming to US, out in Europe and Asia today!
HD2 demonstrates the tight integration between Microsoft and HTC
TAOYUAN, Taiwan – November 4, 2009 – Today, HTC Corporation chief executive officer, Peter Chou, joined Microsoft Corp. chief executive officer, Steve Ballmer and Harvey Chang, chief executive officer of Taiwan Mobile to announce the availability of the highly anticipated HD2 in Europe and Taiwan. HTC and Microsoft also announced that the HD2 would be available in the United States with a major US carrier in early 2010.
"The HD2's amazing customer experience is a testament to the close partnership between HTC and Microsoft and we're excited to be bringing the HD2 to Taiwan and the United States," said Chou. "The HD2 is the first Windows® phone with HTC SenseTM, an HTC user experience focused on making the phone more simple and natural to use and by enabling people to personalise their mobile experience in their own unique way."
"Working with HTC, we've delivered great phones that help customers connect to the people and information they care about, wherever they are," said Ballmer. "The HTC HD2 shows what's possible through our close partnership with HTC and it breaks new ground for Windows phones by delivering a beautiful multi-touch screen that people will love."
The HD2 is the first Windows phone with HTC Sense, a customer experience focused on putting people at the centre by making their phones work in a more simple, natural and personal way. With its industry leading, high-resolution, 4.3-inch capacitive touch display, the ultra thin HTC HD2 delivers more visible content in a sharper, brighter and richer way.
The HD2 uses the first capacitive touch display on a Windows phone to make viewing, zooming and resizing websites, Microsoft Office files, PDF documents and pictures easier with just a pinch of your fingers. The large display also enables faster, more efficient and accurate typing using the onscreen keyboard. Utilizing Qualcomm's new 1Ghz Snapdragon mobile processor, the HTC HD2 offers enhanced performance that improves the speed of applications, videos, games and more.
Developed with a passion for enhancing people's lives through innovation, design and ease of use, HTC Sense is rooted in three fundamental principles of Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected.
Make It Mine
The HD2 continues HTC's drive for personalization by reflecting not only what you want on your phone, but also where you are. Using its large 4.3 -inch window-like display, HTC has brought a new dimension to weather with a localized, animated weather experience that utilizes HD2's entire display without being invasive to your important content and information. The HD2 can also be further enhanced to reflect your needs and style by downloading a wealth of applications at the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
Stay Close
The HD2 helps you stay close to the important friends and colleagues in your life with HTC's people-centric communication approach that provides a single contact view that displays individual communication snapshots of your conversations with the people in your life regardless of whether a call, text, Facebook status update or email were used. While in the midst of email exchange with someone you can easily transition to a call by pressing the call button. HTC has also included a new Windows-based version of its Twitter application, HTC Peep. The pictures you take with the 5MP camera can also be quickly shared via Facebook or Twitter.
Discover the Unexpected
With the HTC Sense experience, the HTC HD2 includes a variety of enhancements that expand and improve the overall phone experience. The HD2 includes a variety of sensors including a proximity sensor that is used to prevent false screen touches when the phone is picked up to answer or make a call. A light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the display. Leveraging its 3G broadband connectivity, the HTC HD2 also offers personal Wi-Fi anywhere for your computer or other devices.
Also available for the HTC HD2 is the optional car kit that automatically transforms HD2's user interface into a finger friendly in-car navigation experience for driving.
Windows phone
As a new Windows phone, the HTC HD2 showcases the powerful messaging, browsing and productivity capabilities delivered by Windows Mobile 6.5. Offering a best in class e-mail experience complete with the ability to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange, you have the ability to check and manage multiple email accounts. Microsoft's new My Phone service enables you to automatically back up and synch photos, music, contacts and text messages for free from the HD2 to the web.
Availability
Already shipping in Europe, the HTC HD2 is available around the middle of November with Taiwan Mobile and will be available throughout Asia in the coming month. The HD2 will be available with a major carrier in the US in early 2010.

PLEASE Verizon ! For ONCE .. kick the snot outta some ATT butt ! I'll wait for this baby !
It does make sense that HTC would introduce in the "world" first... though this thing about calling the US "non-standard" is not really fair.. If the US was one big metro area.. I could understand using GSM.. but its not.. and CDMA is FAR superior for covering large rural areas (requires less towers).. Dont believe me... "There's a MAP for that !" LOL
The fact is... Verizon is the ONLY choice if you want 3G coverage off the pavement in the US.
This phone would grab huge market I think.. especially went ppl start returning that barely out of beta OS called iDroid..... Plus this phone will meet business requirements (activesync full implementation)...
Cmon VERIZON step up !
When did America become the second class country... this is American technology... well the software is anyway... going to Europe and Asia and we in the states have to wait for it... it would be no surprise at all to see every MS employee walking around with an Android, Pre or Apple phone... and who would blame them by the time this gets here it will be old news! My money is going to Pre or Apple at least these American companies release their software/gadgets in their home country first and then the rest of the world... that is the way it should be!
@Kennylad - erm... HTC is Taiwanese!?! They wrote a lot of the software enhancements that the glorious americans couldn't get right after 10 years of trying.
Hmmmmh very iPhonesque. Apple should examine closely to make sure no patent or copyright infringement. No fanboyism here just saying.
wow, fanboy at its best. just saying not a fanboy doesn't exclude you lol. HTC been at the game muich longer than iphone. Go check the models and years they were produced. Apple needs to take care of its lawsuits from Nokia first seeing that they ripped off quite a bit recently and are feeling the pain now.
YEEEEAAAAAHHH !!! Come on my baby, come to meeee :-P
I sure wish Sprint would get a CDMA version of this phone. It is a shame we are limited to what SPrint wants to carry. I envy ATT and Tmobile users who can just put any phone they want as long as it is GSM on their network. It would be great if Verizon and Sprint had open networks as well for CDMA phones. I see some phones at CES that put the US phones to shame but as long as SPrint is locked I can't put any current technology on their network. Why isn't the carterphone law applicable to cell phones?
T-mobile definitely isn't a major US carrier. AT&T and verizion are the leading providers so considering that verizon just go the Droid, i speculate that AT&T will get the HD2.
when i say t-mobile isn't a major carrier. i mean that they don't have as many customers like att and verizion.....just for clarification.
Any of Sprint/ATT/Verizon/T-Mobile would be considered a major player in the US. That's what they mean, it's one of the big 4 and not Podunk Cellular.
gotcha
heres my take on this it looks like a great phone with an impressive array of functions, stop bitching if its winmo 6.5 because by what ive seen and heard, the thing runs really fast, if you really want android, verizon is rumored to be releasing the HTC Dragon/Passion on Black Friday and that phone is an HD2 with android, ill probably go with this phone and hack an android rom on it cause personally i havent liked the looks of the Dragon so far
Yeah and T-mobile also has a network that just decides to stop working.
Verizon should definitely get this phone, but I sense we won't since we have the Imagio already and IT doesn't seem to be selling well.
A question.
iIs T-Mobile UK 3G the same as T-Mobile US 3G?
if on a visit I picked up one form the US would the 3G from T-Mobile UK work on T-Mobile US network.
~
I will wait for it to come to America but if it goes to Verizon or Sprint I will have to get a EU version.
It'll go to Sprint let me tell you why!
- Sprint ALWAYS is the first to get HOT HTC phones here in the states
1. Diamond
2. HTC TOUCH
3. HERO
4. Touch Pro
5. Mogul
6. 6700
- Sprint was the only Carrier not to upgrade their original Diamond with the diamond 2, Verizon has Imagio and ATT has the Pure...where's Sprint's?????
- Sprint and HTC seem to have a very tight relationship
Ofcourse Sprint and HTC aren't going to admit this publically yet, they want to make a Splash announcement at or near release, doing it now will kill that.
HD2 is Definently going to Sprint.
sprint has the HERO (which is an android phone) and Touch Pro 2. Tmo has the My touch 3G (wich is an Android phone)
sure at&t has the pure but its a crappy phone. it only has WM on it. all the other carriers have the top notch HTC phones. just look at the HTC website. so in all actuality we should be asking, Where's AT&T's?????
@Blackbeauty212
A very interesting a good point! It seems like Sprint is the carrier that deserves the HD2 the most! I just hope that, after it releases exclusive under Sprint, in like 2 months, that AT&T will be able to pick up the HD2.
to b quite honest. i don't think thy're going to get the HD2 simply for that reason. They have too many phones on their market. If they keep picking up phones, the other ones wont sell and they'll b at an operation loss. There is a slim chance that Verizion is going to get it either because they too have a lot of phones. The two carriers that can potentially get it are T-mobile and AT&T. Tmo might get it simply because they released this phone in europe already. However AT&T is in dire need for new, NICE smartphones. The iphone can only support them for so long. IT will be a sweet deal for AT&T to pick up the HD2. Considering that AT&T has more smartphone users than any other carrier, a lot of pleople are gonna want to upgrade (i know i will) if they get this phone. Once they upgrade, the customers will be satisfied with their new phone and AT&T will continue to have their same customers (if not more) and not have them switch to Tmo or whoever else gets the phone if they dont. Its a win-win situation and AT&T needs to hurry up and get on that.
thats just my 2 cents.
I was going to wait for this puppy instead of the droid but T-mobile is not where I want to be right now.
My contract with ATT is up and if they don't get this phone I will probably switching over to Sprint for the Hero or Moment.
I'm between a rock and a hardplace right now. I can only either stay with ATT or switch over to Sprint. T-mobile does not offer 3g in my town so I refuse to switch to them. Verizon seems to rob you of an arm and a leg with their plans(not saying ATT is any better) so I can't go in that direction but it seems only T-mobile and Verizon are getting the phones I truly want(The HD2 is almost surely going to T-Mobile and all rumors have the Passion/Dragon going to Verizon).
Can I please get a break!
Just make it AT&T and T-Mobile 3G compatible and let me buy it unlocked. That's all I ask.
If the HTC HD2 comes to Verizon (or AT&T) I'll have to consider switching from Blackberry, if they came out with a nice blackberry like that, that would be awesome!
I Just got my HTC Tilt 2 from Wal-Mart. I will be very angry if this lands on ATT.
Anyone else notice that the US launch has been changed from 'Q1 2010' to 'Early 2010'?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/06/htc-hd2-to-arrive-stateside-in-early-2010-huzzah/
Yes, Q1 2010 is 'Early 2010', but May 2010 could also be considered 'early'.
+1 @ n900
buy the junk phone you're going to get now (us verizon customer here pissed at all things blackberry). this is the optimal time. i had it confirmed yesterday that the iphone att dirty relationship ends in 2010 and the verizon relationship is confirmed (doubtful it will be dirty).
there's no doubt that Steve is rubbing his palms as he prepares to slap the bejesus out of the droid and winblows X in 2011. which means probably i'll have to fight the phone itch for another 3 months after my bs "new every two" is up. You know why? "they f_ck you with cell phones!"
Mmmmmm.... Sense is nice on my Fuze.. Don't you just love the flexibility of Winmo and the XDA developers for bringing Sense to the small (vga) screen?
