Super Talent introduces world's first USB 3.0 flash drive
USB 3.0 devices are just now starting to peek their heads out at retail, and it looks as if Super Talent is doing its darnedest to not be left out of the spotlight. Said company has just introduced what looks to be the planet's first USB 3.0 thumb drive (or "RAIDDrive," as it were), promising transfer rates of up to 320MB/sec when relying on a separate UAS Protocol driver with a USB 3.0 port. If you're using a stock USB 3.0 socket, you'll see speeds as high as 200MB/sec, while those bold enough to slam this into a USB 2.0 connector will see it slow to USB 2.0 speeds. There's no mention of a price or release date, but it should ship relatively soon in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB flavors.

Looks cool.
Wonder what the price is.
Yes, its sweet though I am not sure if this is better compare to the release of Freecom 3.0 USB - it says that it can go as fast as 500 mb/sec. Anyway, if the price is right - then there's no reason for it not to buy this one, oh and also if its available in "bestbuy" :D

When will manufacturers design thumb drive caps so you don't lose them when attached to your keys? That's why i love "cruzer" drives (although they tend to be slow)
Um, not all that cool. There's an important piece of info missing.
"...today announced the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 RAIDDrive"
But failed utterly to say what RAID levels it supports.
Great. Now if only we could get mobos that support the 3.0 spec. Stupid Intel holding it back.
Looks like a futuristic brick
As with all other flash drives, give it a few years and it'll be a brick for sure.
Gotta love how next-gen products always got to look bulky/oversized. When's this damn pattern gonna break?
It wont be really small in years cuz of it's massive storage -->> 2GB, 64GB and 128GB
Instead of this I'd like to see some numbers about iFlop's first day of sales in a huge chineese market.
Cool - hope they make one of their PICO micro USBkey versions of this soon. The PICO is the only usbkey I havn't managed to lose or throw out yet.
COOL! I'm gonna use it with my Intel chipset!!!
Wait...
Wait until brando gets a hold of this.
Why does everything "new" have to be a giant brick? We have the technology already, just make it standard size please
See you when I can finally use you in 2011.
Do you think usb 3.0 causes the end of the world!?
He's referring to Intel's slated support for the standard.
Asus is about to release the U3S6 PCIe card with USB3 and SATA6. It was announced a few days ago, and it should be available any day now for $30.
Is there really that big of a market for a 128GB thumb drive?
32GB is about the most I would ever need/want from such a device - Anywhere I'm going with 128GB of data, a) I probably have more like 250GB anyway, and b) I'll have a bag, so it's much more cost effective to get a standard external drive. (Or even Buffalo's USB3 ones..)
But maybe that's just me..
This isn't really a thumb drive with the listed I/O speed. It's akin to an external hard drive, albeit in a smaller, more convenient, no-cables form factor.
There is at speeds of 320MB/sec... Lots and lots of uses for that.
Well, I'm assuming these things will eventually replace external HDDs. Once we get 128gb, 256gb and above at good prices, it will make no sense to get an HDD instead. That probably won't happen for 5 years or so though.
With such talent... thanks!
at these rates no one will be buying SSD.
Supertalent? WTF! I Just lost $50 bucks! Damn your lagging hide, CORSAIR!
a gig in 5 sec, eh? not too shabby
Wow 128GB and fast!!!
I wonder the cost....
I would be very interest in 128 GB or bigger. I has been buying the rubber OCZ units which worked well but when I needed larger sizes I needed to use their other plastic design. They've fallen to pieces quickly. Too bad because I was a big fan of the rubber rugged OCZ units. I'm hoping the super talent drive is much sturdier than the current OCZ units.
I love their water-resistant pico line... they're so small and cheap (on newegg). The little chain thing they come with is a joke, though.
Return of the "Hardware USB Device can Perform Faster" notification?
Are these USB 2.0 compatible? The reason why I ask is because it'll be an inconvenience if you were to carry your project on the flash drive to school only to find that their computers are USB 2.0 only.
"while those bold enough to slam this into a USB 2.0 connector will see it slow to USB 2.0 speeds"
I know. You didn't have time to read the whole paragraph.
very impressive, but when will they realize we hate caps for our thumb drives? make them retract or have a swinging cap that you can't lose. CAPS SUCK!
has anyone even announced any USB 3.0 pci cards yet? I know I saw earlier today that Intel won't be putting USB 3.0 on their chipsets until 2011, but I don't think I've even seen any add-in cards yet.
insta-porn2go
300MB... That's like, solid state drive speeds, right?
Where is your "Super Talent" if you keep losing your cap?
